Epilogue – Lucas

Sprinkles or chocolate chips.

Sprinkles or chocolate chips.

Sprinkles or chocolate chips.

But…why do I have to choose when they're both yummy and they both belong on waffles? Ally agreed with me that waffles need all the yummy things on them!

Last night, Daddy and Miss Ally and I were watching a movie.

This time The Lion King because they’re making me branch out from Trolls.

I don’t wanna, but I love the music! And when we were making popcorn, I really wanted waffles, and they promised we could have them this morning.

It’s all I could think about last night after they told me.

When they tucked me in and read me a story, Daddy told me I could choose between sprinkles and chocolate chips, and I was lucky because I could spend all night dreaming about the best choice.

But here’s the problem. The best choice is both—I know that now that I’m awake, the sun peeking through my curtains and waking me up.

I throw my blankets off and put my feet in my Monsters, Inc. slippers then run out of my room to go let everyone know I’m awake. Looking between my dad and Miss Ally’s door and the stairs to go down to the kitchen, I don’t know which way is best.

I hear loud noises downstairs, and the only thing I can think of is food.

They’re awake, and that means it’s time!

Waffle time.

Walking quickly down the stairs, I hurry but don’t run so that Daddy doesn't get mad, but the second my feet hit the floor, I run into the kitchen. But when I get in there, I don’t see both Daddy and Miss Ally. It’s just Daddy already making breakfast.

“Morning, Daddy,” I say, and he smiles so big as he looks at me, but I'm still looking around for Ally, my sprinkle buddy. “Where’s Miss Ally?”

“She's still sleeping, so I figured I would get started. I didn’t close my curtain last night, and the sun woke me up” he says, stopping what he’s doing to grab me a glass of orange juice, my favorite.

After that, he moves back to the mix where he starts adding in water and stirring more.

“Can I have chocolate chips and sprinkles?” I ask as I look around to see both of them out on the counter, but when I look at Daddy, he’s tilting his head at me, giving me his daddy glare.

“I thought you were supposed to choose between the two. Isn’t that what we talked about?”

“Daddy, you told me to let my dream tell me,” I tell him, closing my eyes and thinking about my dream, remembering the happiness I felt when I woke up.

“Well, what did the dream tell you?” he asks, setting the mixing thing down as he listens to me.

“It told me both. It said it would be so, so, so, yummy with both. And Daddy, you always tell me to listen to my dreams.”

He shakes his head as he laughs, and I hope that means he’ll let me.

“Is that a yes?”

“It’s a yes this time. I guess next time I’ll have to be more specific.” He laughs. “How about chocolate chips inside, sprinkles on top?”

“Sounds like a plan, Daddy!” I say, fist bumping the air. “Can I go watch cartoons with Miss Ally?”

He looks at the clock before smiling. “Yeah, go ahead. It's past eight anyway. I’ll bring food up in a bit.”

That’s all I need to hear, and I turn around and run back upstairs.

“Walk, Lucas!” Daddy shouts from the kitchen and I slow down…until I get upstairs, and then I run right into their room and Superman jump onto bed next to Miss Ally.

Looking up, I smile, seeing her peeking over at me, one eye open, but she's smiling too.

“Hi.” I smile.

“Good morning, sweetie,” she says as she rolls over, pulling the covers back and patting for me to scoot next to her.

“Can I watch a movie? Daddy said he would bring us breakfast.”

“In that case, watch away, but hopefully he brings me coffee, too. We all know I can be a grump without coffee,” she says with a giggle.

Daddy already got her coffee, like he always does. He likes her, too. A lot.

Grabbing the remote I turn on a movie. Moana 2. It’s my new favorite because of the music and singing I heard in the preview!

“I love you, Miss Ally,” I tell her as I grab her hand.

“I love you, too.”
