10. Chapter 10

She gasped at his words—the sincerity in them caused liquid heat to pool between her legs. Did he really just call me perfect?

Raz’s arm strained distractingly as he ripped the shirt Kate had used to lock his arms. The clothing fluttered to the floor of the office as he hoisted her up under her armpits.

Glee bubbled through her. She wrapped her legs around his hips, and he carried her to the desk and deposited her on the surface.

His gaze spoke of delicious torture, and she smiled, accepting the towel she had thrown.

She wanted him. All of him. Because she knew what lay on the other side of this desire-filled haze—a dangerous mission that might tear them apart.

If they were just going to have this one time together, she’d make it count.

The warm suction of his mouth on her pert nipple shot straight to her clit. Her inner muscles clenched tightly. She gasped. He nipped and kissed down her stomach, sending stinging pleasure through her as he pulled the onesie down her legs, baring her commando body.

He crouched and met her gaze over her body.

His irises moved surreally, like liquid lay in them, drawing her into the hunger that lay within.

No man had ever looked at her so blatantly, as if he wanted to devour her all night.

She desired him more than anything else, and moisture trickled over her lower lip, enticing her even more. She wiggled, panting, “Raz…”

With his shoulders against her thighs, he spread her and moved in for the kill. And what a kill it was. His tongue rolled, played, and licked over her sensitive nub. Glorious tingles wrung moans from her throat and tightened her insides. Her hips bucked, seeking release.

“Raz…please…” she hissed through a brazen smile as he sucked on her. Her lower muscles coiled, readying for something to clamp onto. “I…oh…need you…”

He sucked harder and shook his head—the fast, steady movement shooting her closer.

Oh, my…I’m going to cum…She slapped a hand over her mouth, willing the giggle bubbling in her chest down.

She further pushed the sensation aside with the memory of the men who’d stopped the act because “I can’t take this seriously when you keep laughing.

” Or the ones that would just blatantly cover her mouth to stop the sound.

Warmth spread over her abdomen, embarrassment sabotaging her mind. Can’t cum while he’s watching me…

Body bowed and muscles painfully taut from a halted release, she slid up the table. His calloused hands grabbed her hips, keeping her in place. A growl that sounded too low to come from human vocal cords filled the room as he nipped at her thigh, her stomach. Her skin prickled all over.

“Please don’t hide from me,” he said thickly, and took her hand from her mouth and nibbled at her fingertips.

She swallowed, heart twisting. “But I…it’s embarrassing.”

His eyebrow quirked. “Nothing about you cuming on my face is embarrassing.”

“But when I cum…” She covered her warming cheeks but peeled her fingers back to watch his reaction. “I giggle.”

“Oh, really?” His grin was wide and teasing as he leaned closer. “Then it sounds like I need to make you giggle.”

Her heart climbed into her throat. When he kissed her, slow and intimate, it loosened every reservation in her mind. She whimpered.

“Or do you want to stop?” he asked.

Her body clenched in rebellion at the idea.

“No…No…I just…” No one’s ever wanted me like you do.

Made me feel safe enough to admit my embarrassing truth.

“I fuck…” She kissed him to stop herself from ruining the moment.

Throwing herself into the kiss, she reveled when he did the same, scorching her insides that cried out for an orgasm.

He palmed her, finger hitting her slick clit as she reached for his hot cock, jerking him off between their bodies.

“Oh…yes. Yes.” Her body coiled, tighter and tighter, and…Raz removed his magical fingers and grabbed his cock from her.

“Tell me you want me,” he said.

She swallowed, needing air, needing him. “I want you, Raz.”

His copper eyes trapped her in their surrendering sincerity. He was claiming her. Telling her she wasn’t alone. He accepted her as she was. And her orphaned soul opened. Holding her captive with his gaze, he thrust in a primal surge.

Her back arched, following the strain of pleasure spiking through her entire body.

“You feel so fucking good.” He filled her with each slick push, and his lips spread around the most glorious smile she had ever seen.

Each slap into her slid her across the desk.

His sweaty arms wrapped around her waist as he lifted to stand with her still seated on his cock.

He pumped into her with two delicious strokes and lowered to his knees to set her on the ground.

The rough carpet rubbed her skin, but his cock stretched her, each thrust a steady beat against her throbbing clit.

“Ah, Raz, yes…” Sweet release flooded through her without reservation, and ecstatic spasms rocked from her toes to her head. She squeaked, giggling with rapture.

Heat rose to her cheeks, embarrassed by the sounds other men found off-putting, but Raz gawked at her, satisfied and beheld like she was a beautiful creature beneath him.

And she felt sexy. Like she belonged. No one had ever made her feel that way.

She wrapped her arms around him and kissed him, heartstrings pulling dangerously tight.

Raz’s pace turned hard and fast, pounding into her without abandon. His hands scraped against the rug by her ears as he clawed at the floor. And then he maddened to an even faster tempo, hitting her in a spot that seemed to stretch her walls closer to another precipice. She screamed.

Energy slithered across her mind, a tingling at the base of her spine. A warning. Like something was going to attack.

Raz grunted and bit her neck. Hard. The instant change of sensation set her off. Another fast but intense orgasm ripped through her. Amidst the starburst behind her eyelids, energy swiped against her consciousness, tugged at her, but left. Raz shouted against her skin as he bucked in release.

A few restless strokes later, he tore himself out of her and rolled onto his side, back facing her.

Their heavy breathing filled the room. Kate’s brain was in a whirlwind of emotion, happiness and desire, wanting to bounce free.

Raz’s back was stiff, the muscles bunched in an erotic but worrying way.

She lay there a long moment, catching her breath as his silence and lack of touching stirred fears of inadequacy.

“Raz,” she whispered, reaching forward. Her finger barely grazed his shoulder when he jerked away from her.

Kate stilled, heart thundering, while the hair on her body rose. Bitter rejection dried her mouth. “Talk to me?”

“I need…a moment.” His voice came out gravelly. He rolled to his feet and left the room.

She swallowed, and her teeth clamped together, biting hard to keep the pain in her chest at bay. What happened? Did he already regret what they’d done? She tried not to read into anything. He just said he needed a moment, but the truth was…they had mind-blowing sex, and then he just left her.

Moving to her side, she curled herself into a ball, feelings of abandonment wrapping her in a dark blanket. She thought he accepted her despite her immature behavior and thieving hands, but no one ever wanted her.

The sound of pelting water from a shower carried through the cabin. Probably washing the criminal off him. She flinched.

Her eyes burned, and she stared up at the picture of the dark-hooded figure on the wall.

Naomi. She was the only person in Kate’s life who hadn’t abandoned her.

But then Kate had been the one to leave her.

A sobbing breath hitched in her throat, and she stood, furiously wiping hot tears from her face.

She had shit to do.

Sleeping with a fed and feeling sorry for herself wasn’t one of them. A man wasn’t going to come between her and saving Naomi.

Pulling her onesie back into place, she ripped the zipper up, pinching the skin of her neck.

It was a dull ache compared to the throbbing from where Raz had bitten her.

Probably some dragon kink. One she had enjoyed.

She rolled her freshly burning eyes and strode to his desk, then opened each drawer, searching for something.

Anything. The glint of metal caught her attention. Keys.

The two identical-looking old keys jangled as she lifted them, the Dodge emblem twinkling on the leather key chain. The key grooves dug into her palm from her clenched fist as she rushed to the garage, where her chariot awaited.

Tears blurring her vision, she tried the key in the door of the black antique Charger.

They glided in, and with a flick of her wrist, she unlocked the door.

The black leather seat dwarfed her form as she jumped in.

She took a deep breath, pine and leather filling her nose.

She familiarized herself with the car. Stick shift.

Garage button on the visor. Lights. Old gauges.

Pushing down the clutch, she put the keys into the ignition, hoping the antique would start.

“Come on, baby.” She rested her forehead against the steering wheel. A stray tear dripped, wetting the large center hub of the wheel. “I know he probably takes care of you.”

She pressed the garage button and turned the key. The car roared to life. She slid the stick into reverse, right and down. Lifting her head, she watched the exit lift in the rearview mirror. The side door to the garage banged open.

“What the fuck are you doing?” Raz yelled, face a blur of fury.

She slammed on the gas and dropped the clutch.

Tires squealed; the smell of burned rubber filled the air. As the car caught traction, it shot back into the gravel. Giving the wheel a twist, she whipped the vehicle around, nearly colliding with a pine tree. In first gear, she peeled away into the darkness, sending dust up behind her.

She didn’t look back.
