Chapter 10 Matthew #2
“Yep.” Cornelius pulled me back into his side, and I sighed as I snuggled in.
He was great at cuddling. We sat there in silence while I stared out at the white landscape I could see over and through the railing.
I thought about what he’d said and wondered if that included fae?
Would it be all realms? Weren’t demons already immortal?
I knew some shifters were; those from the original lines.
They had extra powers as well. I’d met Sterling in Timber Valley, and I could immediately sense it in him.
When I’d asked Aspen about it, he explained everything to me while we sat there and did art projects with his triplets.
I must have dozed off because my bladder telling me it needed emptied had me opening my eyes and realizing two things. I was alone in our bed and tucked under the warm blanket.
“Love? You okay?” Cornelius asked through our bond.
“I’m fine. Need to pee. Did I sleep long?” I flung the blanket back and sat up, gauging how my stomach was going to react to being upright.
“Several hours. It’s almost lunchtime. I can stop where I’m at and join you if you’d like.”
I smiled as I got up and walked to the bathroom.
“Sure. If you have time. I know you have a lot of work to catch up on because you were away.”
I sighed as I relieved my bladder and got to thinking about the fact that I was talking to my mate telepathically and I was going pee at the same time as if it were a completely normal thing.
“I’ll always have time for you. You’re my mate. And I’m all caught up. I was able to work on most everything while in Timber Valley. Things that required me to be here I took care of by teleporting home.”
“Then yes, please do. I’d love soup if you think Grantham has some.”
“It’s winter. Soup will always be an option. I’ll grab lunch and see you in a bit.”
“’Kay,” I said before flushing the toilet.
I quickly washed my hands and as I was drying them, decided my teeth could definitely use a good brushing, so I took care of that.
I knew my mate was in our suite before I saw him.
I smiled at that, wondering if he’d hurried on my account or if he was truly at a stopping point when I woke.
“That smells good, whatever it is.”
“It’s homemade chicken noodle soup. Grantham even makes the egg noodles. It’s one of my favorites, although I’m incredibly fond of his potato ham soup as well. You want to sit on the couch and eat? Or at the table?”
“Can we try the table?” I smiled at my mate when he looked incredibly relieved and simply nodded. I crossed to him, and when he held out his arm, I walked directly into his side and wrapped my arms around his waist.
“You feeling okay? I’m getting your stomach isn’t exactly happy.”
“I’m good. Some tea and food soon though would be best,” I told him.
“Then food and tea it is. There is a fresh loaf of bread to go with the soup too.”
I sighed. I loved fresh bread. But that reminded me how much I missed my job. Cornelius picked up on my rapid mood change.
“I’m sorry, sweetheart. I didn’t mean to upset you in some way.”
I sat in the chair he pulled out for me and waited until he sat himself diagonally to me.
When Cornelius looked at me, I reached for his hand and grabbed it, giving it a squeeze.
“You didn’t upset me. The mention of fresh bread reminded me that I haven’t baked anything in quite a while, and I miss it. ”
Cornelius squeezed my hand back before releasing it. I immediately picked up my tea and took a healthy drink, hoping it would help calm my stomach. I needed to eat. I’d realized that it was best if I snacked on crackers frequently in between meals. But unfortunately, I’d slept through the morning.
“I’ve talked to Grantham. He’s not only excited to meet you when you’re feeling better, but he’s looking forward to you joining him in the kitchen. He even said that if you wanted, after the baby arrived, you could bring him or her with you. I told him I’d let you know.”
That had my spoon stopping halfway to my mouth. “Him or her? Do you think we’ll have a fae baby? Do warlocks do that? I thought you were all male?” I asked and then took my first spoonful of soup and moaned around the delicious flavors.
“Well, two warlocks will always have warlocks. But Master Edison had Arik, and he’s a tiger shifter like his alpha father.”
My eyes rounded. “Alpha father? As in Master Edison was the carrier?” I asked as I set my spoon down in my bowl and picked up the tea again.
“Yeah. Patrick carried his and Master Arthur’s children. Michael and Ellie had two children several decades ago. They had a boy and a girl. The boy was a warlock, but the girl was human like her mother.”
“Yeah, but she’s human. I just assumed we’d have boys and they’d be warlocks.” I shrugged and took another bite of soup.
“Doesn’t matter to me either way. But you do have female fae. Can male fae not birth females in your realm?”
I shook my head. Females only ever came from other females. And unlike warlocks, our designation was known at birth. I grew up knowing I was an omega. I had an omega line and thus knew my mate would be male.
“Does it matter if we only have male offspring?”
I shook my head. I didn’t care either way. “No. I’m just thankful that the fates gifted you to me and we’re starting a family.”
“I feel the same. Now, I know your stomach is still iffy. Please eat. And definitely drink,” Cornelius said.
I smiled before picking up my spoon and taking another spoonful of soup.
Cornelius cut me off a hunk of bread, and I thanked him when he handed it to me.
I took a bite and moaned again. It was perfect.
Soft inside with a slightly chewy crust. I dipped it in the broth and took another bite, enjoying it even more soaked in the gold liquid.
