Chapter 18 Matthew

Matthew

Iwas ready to pop. I was done. Last week Cornelius had said if I didn’t want any more children, he was okay with that, and I was beginning to think that maybe I didn’t.

I knew I didn’t want another one right away.

I was tired and cranky, and I couldn’t see my dick or my feet.

Basically, nothing below the belly unless I was sitting down, and even then, I still couldn’t see my cock.

I only knew it was there because I used it to go pee. Which had become quite the adventure lately because I couldn’t see my dick to make sure it was aiming down into the toilet, even when sitting down on the thing.

I kept trying to focus on the fact that Ollie would be here any day now, and not only would I get to hold our son, I’d get my body back.

My kidneys, liver, bladder, and my diaphragm.

I would be able to eat more than three bites of food before feeling full, and I would be able to sleep in any position without having to worry about my legs going numb. Or my back hurting.

Yep, I was over being pregnant. Completely. I was ready for the sleepless nights and crying baby. Give me that over the twinges in my stomach.

I winced as another ache ran across my stomach.

I knew what it was; I’d been around my own mother enough when she was pregnant.

Only she didn’t have an omega line like me.

And that’s what those pains were. My omega line had started opening.

I’d been so excited at first. But then I realized that it was possible for it to take at least a day for it to fully open.

Basically, I was in early labor, and I was ready to move things along.

“Sweetheart, what are you doing? Shouldn’t you be resting?” my mate asked as I struggled to get up off the couch.

“Nope. I want gravity to help because I want my line to open. I don’t know about you, but I’m more than ready for little Ollie to be here. Do you think he’ll have my eyes or yours?”

Cornelius walked over to me, and thankfully he helped me up instead of trying to coax me back down. “Okay. If you want to walk, would you be interested in walking down to Constantine’s office? I won’t make you walk back up the stairs, I promise.”

“That sounds good. But could you peek at my line first? I don’t want to go walking down all those stairs if it’s opened further.

” I’d counted those stairs many times as I’d trudged up and down them.

There were exactly twenty-five stairs between each floor, and then there were the added steps up and down the long hallways.

Even though the place was full of warlocks, you could easily get plenty of exercise in if you didn’t teleport everywhere.

“Okay, so…the line…it’s opened more. I’d say it’s probably halfway open. You sure you want to walk down all of those stairs?”

“I do. My contractions are all but nothing. I don’t really feel them, so if I can get this labor moving along, that’s better in my book.”

“All right then, let me get your shoes and we’ll be on our way.”

Cornelius got up and quickly grabbed my shoes for me before he got back on his knees to help me put them on. “Would you feel better sitting? I can help that way?”

“Or you could just magic them on for me?”

“Or I could do that, yeah.”

I smiled when I felt the shoes suddenly on my feet, and my mate was standing in front of me. “You’re really cute when you’re frazzled. Come on, let’s go see if we can get this labor started, and we can meet our son.”

Cornelius smiled at me, and after he laced our fingers together, he walked me to the door and out into the hallway. It was spring, and the windows were open in the mansion. The fresh air could be smelled in the light breeze that was moving through the place.

“Okay, so to Constantine’s office? I let him know this morning that your line had started opening, and he said to give him a call when your contractions became close, steady, and painful.”

I sighed at that. My contractions were anything but. “Yeah, let’s go see him, but it’s too soon. And my contractions aren’t painful at all. Just a little twinge here and there.”

Cornelius looked saddened by my reply, but I wasn’t picking that up through our bond. “You okay?”

“Yes. You ready?” he asked, and I realized we were standing at the top of the stairs.

“As I’ll ever be. It’s only fifty steps, right?”

“Well, and the few on the landing. If you get tired, let me know and I’ll either carry you or teleport us there.”

I nodded and stepped off. I was ready to get going.

I needed to do something. I was ready to hold my baby.

I wanted to feel him in my arms and not pushing on my bladder.

Speaking of bladder, I probably should have gone pee before leaving the suite.

Oh well. I’d use the one in the medical wing.

It wasn’t like I hadn’t just a few days ago when I was there for a checkup.

When we reached the second floor, I looked to Cornelius. It was difficult to make it down so many stairs when your center of gravity was off and you couldn’t see your feet.

“Still okay?”

“Yeah, just don’t let me go, okay?”

“Never,” Cornelius said, and when I tried to step off the landing, he held me back.

When I looked up at my mate, he smiled down at me, and with his free hand, cupped my face.

“I love you, Matthew. More than I ever dreamed I could love my One. You have given me the world, and I just wanted you to know.”

I couldn’t help it. I teared up. And then I started blubbering because what else was I going to do when I was an emotional pregnant fae that was in labor that wasn’t quite labor and my mate had just been his perfect self and given me a beautiful declaration of love?

“I love you…ouch!” I screamed out as I felt a sudden sharp pain in my stomach and at the same time felt a huge gush of fluid run down my legs. My knees buckled as another wave of pain ripped through me, and my eyes widened when realization hit me.

“Oh, fates. Okay,” Cornelius said, and then he swept me up into his arms. Seconds later, we were in Constantine’s office. The doctor looked up at us in surprise. “His water just gushed on the stairs. And the pain. I think the baby is coming.”

“Of course the baby is coming. You said yourself this morning that his omega line was opening. Let’s get him into the delivery room and take a look. Unless you’d like to deliver in your suite?”

“Ouch! Make it stop!” I shouted as another pain spiked through my body.

Nope, definitely not having more. Was it supposed to hurt this much?

Really? “I don’t care where I have this baby.

Just get it out of me! It hurts!” I screamed as I grabbed Constantine’s shirt and yanked him to me so I could growl in his face.

“Yep, got it. Two doors down, then,” he said and rushed out of the office. Cornelius followed, and I was placed on a nice wide bed with the back elevated already. “Place him there, then we need to strip him from the waist down.”

My mate did as told, and when he tried to step back, I grabbed his shirt and tugged. “You said you wouldn’t leave me,” I panted out.

“I’m not going anywhere, sweetheart. Just standing right here until the doctor tells me where he wants me.”

I nodded and started breathing. More like huffing and puffing. “Is it supposed to hurt this much?” I growled at the doctor.

“Well, pain level varies from patient to patient. And again from pregnancy to pregnancy.”

“Oh fate no. We are not having any more. This hurts. Make it stop!” I groaned as another wave of pain ripped through me, causing my body to bow up on the bed. “Ahhhhh!”

“Okay, let’s have a look and see what we can do,” Constantine said as he turned toward the bed.

He ran a hand over my abdomen, the palm glowing green, and instantly the pain dulled to what it had been all morning.

“And that’s why. Okay, Matthew, your line is open completely.

The sharp pain was from it opening so quickly. ”

“Really? No, no more, mate. This hurts. I don’t want to do this again. I don’t want any more pain,” I cried out.

“Shh, no more. Ollie will be perfect for us, love. He’s more than I could have hoped for.

Shh,” Cornelius said soothingly as he held my left hand and ran his fingers through my sweat-soaked hair with the other.

It worked because I instantly felt better, and breathing came easier.

“There you go. You need to stay calm and listen to my voice.”

I stared up into my mate’s eyes and listened to his voice.

“Okay, Matthew. Do you want to push, or do you want me to take the baby?”

“Which is faster? Will it hurt?”

“Taking the baby is faster and less painful.”

“Then that,” I said and flopped back against the pillow. The bed slowly reclined, and I continued to stare at Cornelius while listening to him.

“I love you. You’re doing great. I’m so proud of you, sweetheart. You mean everything to me, and if I could take all of your pain, I would.”

“I know. I love you too.”

“Okay, Matthew. You ready?” Constantine asked. I looked down my body and saw him standing there, ready.

“Yes.”

“Where do you want me?” Cornelius asked.

“Right there is good. If you’re going to want to cut the cord, you can do so when I’m ready. We’ll start just as soon as—” The door opening, announcing the arrival of Patrick, interrupted the doctor.

“Well then, we’ll begin just as soon as Patrick is in place.”

“Hey, daddy-to-be. You ready to meet your little guy?” Patrick asked as he stood beside my mate. He picked up a towel and held it in both of his hands.

“I am. It hurts.”

“It can. And then next time there could be absolutely no pain at all.”

Instead of telling him I didn’t want any more, I hissed when I felt a lot of pressure on my stomach. Just as I was going to look over to Constantine, my gaze landed on a very pink, slimy, and wrinkled baby. It was in Constantine’s hands until he placed it in the towel that Patrick was holding.
