Ledger

Ledger was finally home from their last assignment.

It was the first week in November and he was disappointed in not being home for Halloween.

He enjoyed getting dressed up and handing candy to the kids that came to his house.

Thoughts of Violet and how she was doing hadn’t left his mind and now that he was back, he couldn’t wait to see her again.

For some reason, his thoughts went to a vivid dream he had shortly after they left. It was a very sensual dream about him and Violet. He couldn’t make heads or tails at why he had a dream like that. It was the first time he’d ever had a really good dream.

The first week of being back, he was in meetings going over the details of the assignment that took them away from their homes and families. Ledger tried calling Violet but it went straight to voicemail. He even texted her to let her know he was back home.

As usual, after coming home from assignment, the team would get a few weeks off to destress. Ledger would take a few days to catch up on sleep and then meet up with his friends.

Ledger remembered that before he left, he couldn’t get in touch with Carp. He’d asked around to see if anyone else had heard from him while he had been away. Every one of them told him no and they all had a bad feeling.

He went to the gym to check on how Violet was doing with her training while he was gone. Ledger thought he might as well get a good workout while he was there and to clear his head about what to do with the Carp situation.

The guys were just finishing up with a class when Ledger walked into the gym. He headed towards them when he overheard one ask if they had heard from Violet. That stopped him in his tracks.

“What about Violet?” Leger asked.

The two turned toward him and saw his face and paled a little. One walked to Ledger, put his hand on his shoulder and turned him to head to one of the offices. Once inside, they all sat down and Tony explained to him how no one in the gym has seen or heard from Violet since before Halloween.

Ledger only had more questions than he had answers to give.

He pulled his phone out and sent a sos to the group who went to bring Violet back here.

He thanked them for helping her while he was gone, and they both wanted to help with finding out what was going on.

The both of them had taken a liking to her and considered Violet a friend.

Ledger was glad for the help. Instead of relieving his stress, it seems only more compounded. He drove straight to his house where he knew the others would be waiting for him to get back.

The three walked into the house and the others turned in their direction. Ledger asked if anyone knew when was the last time anyone had seen Violet, or if anyone had gone to her place to check on her to make sure she wasn’t sick or hurt. From the looks on everyone’s face, it was all negative.

Doc grabbed his phone and placed a call to Lisa to see what she might know. Ledger went to go to Violet’s house to see if she was home and okay. He knew the others would contact people who knew Violet to try and get a timeline of the last time anyone had seen or heard from her.

Violet’s house was dark and he couldn’t see anything out of the ordinary. He knocked on the door but no answer. Ledger used the key to open the front door. Calling out her name in case she was asleep and didn’t want to frighten her. But there was no reply back.

He walked into her bedroom and nothing seemed out of place. It looked as though she went out, he saw a bag for a Halloween costume on her bed. Halloween was over two weeks ago now, and he knew that the bag shouldn’t still be out if nothing bad had happened to her.

A chill ran down his spine. Carp not responding to anyone and now Violet may be missing. Ledger bolted out of her house and hurried back to his. Once through the door he yelled, “Violet’s been taken!”

For one moment everyone stopped what they were doing and in the next heartbeat, they were all scrambling to get more people here to help with what needed to be done.

Ledger had two different teams at his place. One team was trying to trace Violet’s last known movements. While he was trying to figure out what was going on with Carp. He called the hospital and tried to talk to someone who he met with but no one was there.

He decided to take a few of the guys and head back to check on Carp. They took off late at night and it took about twelve hours to get to the town. To stay off the radar, they stayed in the next town over.

After a few hours of sleep, Ledger and Doc went over to Carp’s house to see if they could figure out what happened. When they were at the front door, an uneasy feeling came over both of them.

Ledger saw that the door had been broken into. Not wanting to call the cops yet, they both had gloves on so they opened the door and instantly a smell hit them. Decomp. Ledger hoped it wasn’t his friend but someone who broke in.

They both raised a mask to cover their nose and mouth. The moment they walked into the living room, Ledger’s heart sank. In the middle of the room tied to a chair, was his friend. He looked like he had been tortured. His mind went straight to Violet and a sinking feeling punched him in the gut.

Ledger didn’t know anything about her ex, and now he knew he would have to do a deep dive into this town and her background. Carp told him not to worry about it and now he was kicking himself for not following his gut.

Doc pulled out his phone to make a call, but Ledger stopped him.

“We don’t know anything at the moment and until we can find Violet, I don’t want anyone to tip off the person or persons who may have her.

We need to hurry, from what I can tell, he’s been gone awhile.

And Violet has been missing for almost three weeks. ”

Doc shook his head and the two men turned to walk back out of their friends home. Ledger pulled his phone out and made a group text that read:

Carp Dead. Violet taken by ex. Deep dive of city and people. Heading back. No cops.

Ledger got into the driver’s seat and gripped the wheel tight. Closed his eyes and made a promise that he would do whatever it took to find her…alive.
