Cowboy

I couldn’t take any more waiting. From what Wolverine discovered from talking to Owen on the ride to the ER, Saranya had been missing for four hours.

The images of what might be happening to her at this very second made me lose it.

Roaring, I kicked the ratty end table in the dilapidated house across the room.

It crashed into the wall, breaking into pieces.

Not satisfied, I kicked the wooden chair into the same wall.

Instantly, I was surrounded by Diablo, Butcher, and Thunder.

“Keep it together,” Thunder said.

“Fuck that! I need to find her. Standing around with our thumbs up our asses isn’t helping,” I snarled.

“We are working. I just got off the phone with Micro. He’s tracked her phone. It’s a few hundred yards from our current location. He’s calling it. Let’s go outside and search for it,” Diablo suggested.

“What good will that do?” I snapped.

“It’ll save you putting your fist through the wall and fucking up your hand. Let’s go,” Butcher chimed in.

Seeing their expressions, I knew they’d drag me if they had to, so I went.

Outside, with flashlights out. We aimed in the direction Diablo indicated with his finger.

As we walked, spread out, to the edge of the property, then down the dirt road, I was fuming.

However, when I heard the faint ringing, I rushed forward.

It was Thunder who saw the faint glow from the screen.

He picked it up and brought it to me. I clutched it to my chest.

“I know it’s a long shot, but are you able to get into her phone? Check to see if there were any texts or anything sent that might help us,” Butcher suggested.

Saranya and I had given each other fingerprint access to each other’s phones.

It took me only moments to be in. I scrolled through the phone list to see if any calls had been made.

Nope, the last one was to me. As for texts, it was the one she sent to me.

Growling in frustration, I raised my arm.

Butcher snatched the cell phone out of my hand before I threw it.

“You never know what Micro can get off this damn thing,” he said.

Storming back toward the house, I was determined to get on my bike and ride around. When I arrived at my bike, however, I found my key wasn’t in the ignition. Whipping around, I glared at my brothers.

“Who took my fucking key?” I shouted.

“You’re not safe to ride, brother. We’re not letting you kill yourself. Sari will murder us if we allow that,” Crash replied.

I got in his face. “If we don’t get her back, it won’t matter. I won’t live without her,” I yelled. Spit flew, but he never flinched.

“You’re giving up. No one said we wouldn’t find her. And you can survive if the worst happens. I’m proof of that,” Diablo said quietly.

Turning to him, I felt the rage seep out of me. Despair replaced it. “Yeah, but you’re stronger than I am, Pres. I don’t think I’m that tough,” I admitted hoarsely. Revealing my weak ass in front of them didn’t matter.

“Son, you’ll be amazed at what you can bear. And the saying that it makes you stronger is true. And it adds wisdom. I never want any of you to suffer what I did, but if it happens, you mustn’t give up hope. Look at me. I would’ve never found Jauhnna or had my other kids if I hadn’t pushed through.”

I sank into a crouch, hung my head, and tried to hold back the tears. Someone put a hand on my shoulder and squeezed. I had no clue who it was, since I didn’t look up. It was a phone ringing a minute later that made me glance up. Diablo yanked his phone out of his cut.

“Talk to me,” he barked.

The silence as he listened was gut-wrenching. I straightened and paced. There were some affirmative sounds from Diablo, but no words. After a couple of minutes, he walked over to her truck and opened the door.

“What’re you looking for?” I asked. The rest of us followed him.

“Micro, I’m putting you on speaker so the others can hear. Tell me what to do, it’s here,” Diablo said.

“Hey, so I was nosing around in Sari’s online accounts and emails.

I discovered that she has an account for those cameras that people put in their vehicles that record movement.

In case of an accident or other incident, they have video proof if someone hits them or steals their car.

I asked Pres to check if she has them. Is there one or two cameras? ”

“Two, front and back,” Butcher answered. He was now in her truck.

“Good. Alright, Cowboy, would Sari have happened to share the app to that and her password to the account?” Micro asked.

“No, I didn’t even know she had these.”

“Okay, that’s not the end of the world. Next, does anyone have a laptop with them?” our hacker asked.

“Hell, no.”

“Fuck, as if.”

“Why would I?”

Those were the replies he got. I was back to the rage building.

“Cowboy, when Sari goes out on calls, does she ever bring a laptop or tablet with her?” Micro asked.

Yanking the rear driver’s door open, I looked until I saw her backpack. It was what she used to carry her non-medical supplies in. Tearing the zipper open, I found her laptop in it. Tugging it out, I held it up.

“He’s found it. What next?” Diablo asked.

While I got her laptop fired up, Micro instructed Butcher on how to remove the chip from the forward camera.

When he had it free, I inserted it into the laptop where I was instructed to put it.

From there, Micro walked me through granting him access to take control of the laptop. Once he was in, we sat back and waited.

The wait was excruciating, but there was a ray of hope in me. I don’t know how much time passed before Micro muttered, “Bingo. I’ve got you, you son of a bitch.”

“What did you find?” I asked.

“When she was taken, the truck she was in got recorded on the cameras. The front one showed her and Owen arriving, then Jordan carrying her out later. When his truck passed hers to reach the main road, the rear camera captured the license plate number. With that and the description, I can see who it belongs to and search traffic cams. I can tell you, this isn’t the vehicle owned by Neely.

I already checked into it and have my programs scanning for sightings of it today.

I’ll input the search parameters for this one and see what we find.

He can run, but he can’t hide,” Micro growled.

As the others cheered, I closed my eyes and sent up a prayer. Please, lord, let him find her. She’s got to be alright. Please. I’ll do anything you ask if you’ll keep her alive.
