Nope. Nope. Nope.

No one, not a single one of my friends ever, ever gave me any indication of what it might be like to be up close and personal with a Sarkarnii.

None of them said a word about shedding their skin or the way these huge males can make noises which quite frankly have to be illegal somewhere in the universe.

I am slippery in all the wrong places, and it has nothing to do with being in the water. My face is flaming like Deus has released his fire at me, and I am so hot I’m going to have to have a cold shower before I can think straight.

It is not supposed to be like this.

I…can’t be with anyone, least of all Deus. He might be broken, but I’m damaged goods. I was damaged a long time ago, before the aliens, before any of this happened to me. Being abducted and taken to another part of the universe, experimented on—it was all icing on the cake of my terrible life.

A life I daren’t even tell my friends about. No one should have to carry my pain but me. And after all, being here, with the Sarkarnii, was the chance of a new life. One I wanted to embrace, only my fear stopped me.

I slip out of my swimsuit as I climb into the shower in the sanitary area Deus showed me last night.

The cool water flows over me, finally giving me some relief from the ridiculous heat I’ve built up.

The Sarkarnii have an interesting version of soap, more like body butter, but it cleanses any part, including hair, leaving everything perfectly moisturized.

Presumably if you have scales, you want them kept in good condition.

I add the soap/butter to my hair and give it a good scrub, hoping Deus is doing the same, then I continue down my body.

When I get to my pussy…I hesitate. I haven’t touched myself down there for I don’t know how long.

But I feel a throb, an insistent one, one which asks me to give myself some relief.

It can’t hurt, can it? One day I’m going to have to touch. Perhaps today is the day. I slide one digit down and over my clit. The tiny bundle of nerves reacts in such a way I’m sucking in a breath as I try not to cry out. I circle it, slowly, wanting to test myself, wanting to see how I feel.

A waft of spice and smoke hits me and without thinking I press harder.

My orgasm hits me like a freight train. Stars burst in my vision, my body convulsing in all sorts of ways, my channel pulsing over nothing, bereft at the lack of anything to chew up.

My stomach contracts, and all of it happens to me in a way I cannot stop, even if I wanted to.

That was a climax.

A real climax.

Like nothing I’ve ever had in my life before. All because Deus growled and set me on this path. I clutch the walls of the shower with both hands as the water cascades over my back, attempting to settle my heart rate and get a grip on all the emotions swirling in my head.

I can’t have him. He doesn’t belong to me.

Deus had a mate. He wanted her so badly he would do anything, even betray his own kind.

Sarkarnii mate for life. He doesn’t want me. He can’t possibly ever want another. All he will ever want is his lost mate.

Not me.

Never me.

“Little ember, look how pretty you are when you come undone.” His voice, like smoke, curls around my ears.

I fling my head back to see Deus stood in the doorway to the sanitary area staring at me. His eyes burn like coals from hell, his nostrils flaring.

“How long…” I’m not sure where I’m finding my voice from, or even keeping this calm, even as I wrap my arms around my naked body. “How long have you been there?”

“Long enough to see you come, little ember. Long enough to want to feast on what you might have left for me.” His voice is so low, so much gravel, so much smoke, it goes straight to my core.

And I wouldn’t have thought it possible to feel what I’m feeling after what I’ve just done, but I do.

My eyes trail down his form, his scales shining, glittering with newness, his abs looking even more defined and delicious…and then I see it.

I see what all my friends have been teasing me about, all this time.

My mouth falls open.

“No.” The word is ripped from my lips. “No.”

I pull the towel from the rail next to me, not even looking further at him as I barge past and run and run until I reach the end of the dwelling, until I reach the depression in the floor and I have nowhere else to go but down, down to the bottom, and I can cover my head, and I can shiver, and shiver, and shiver.
