CRIMSON DEBTS Chapter 40
Chapter 40: The Vow of the Vine and Rose
The week leading up to the wedding was a whirlwind of tradition and playful tension.
According to local custom, the groom wasn't allowed even a glimpse of his partner for forty-eight hours before the ceremony.
For Kaelen, who had spent every night for a year with Julian in his arms, it was a special kind of torture.
The Near Miss
On the night before the wedding, the men decided to help Kaelen "cheat." They distracted the village women by setting off a small box of firecrackers near the well. While the commotion drew everyone away, Kaelen used his old skills to scale the trellis of the guest cottage.
He managed to slide the window open and see Julian, who looked ethereal in the moonlight. But just as Kaelen reached out to touch Julian's hand, the bedroom door creaked open.
"Kaelen Thorne!" Mary's voice boomed like a shotgun blast. She stood in the doorway with a wooden spoon raised like a weapon. "I knew you'd try your city tricks! Out! Out before I curse your first year with burnt toast and cold feet!"
Kaelen nearly fell off the trellis in his haste to retreat, while Julian's melodic laughter followed him down into the bushes.
The Altar of the Great Oak
The wedding morning arrived with a sky of brilliant blue. The entire village gathered under the great oak tree, which had been draped in white ribbons and wildflowers.
When Julian appeared, walking down the grassy aisle, the breath left Kaelen's lungs. Julian wasn't a pawn, a debtor, or a victim. He was a vision of grace in a cream-colored linen suit, his eyes fixed solely on Kaelen.
When they reached the altar, the village elder stepped forward. "Kaelen Thorne, do you take Julian Vane to be your wedded husband, to cherish in peace and protect in storm?"
Kaelen didn't hesitate. His voice was a steady, iron-strong vow that echoed through the trees. "I do," he said. Then, with more emotion, "I do." And finally, a whisper intended only for Julian, "I do."
Before sliding the hammered gold ring onto Julian's finger, Kaelen took a deep breath.
"Julian, I spent my life looking for a reason to be a better man.
I thought I had to build walls to be strong, but you showed me that true strength is the courage to be soft.
You are my light, my heartbeat, and my home.
I give you my name, my life, and every breath I have left. "
When it was Julian's turn, he spoke through tears of joy.
"Kaelen, I used to dream of a place where I could breathe without fear.
I didn't realize that place wasn't a house, but a person.
You are the man who taught me how to bloom.
I promise to love you through the seasons, to tend to our garden, and to never let a day go by without showing you how much you are worth. "
As the rings were exchanged, the village erupted in cheers, and the "Enforcer" kissed his husband with a tenderness that moved the elders to tears.
The "Medicine" and the Warning
At the reception, the celebration was raucous. While Julian was pulled away to dance with the children, Mary cornered him one last time.
"Now, Julian," she whispered, her face turning serious. "You look exhausted from all this planning. Tonight is for rest! Don't let that big man of yours get any ideas. You tell him he sleeps on the edge of the bed and keeps his hands to himself tonight, you hear?"
Julian's face turned a deep, embarrassed crimson. "Mary! I... I'll try," he stammered, feeling the heat rise to his ears as the women laughed behind their fans.
Meanwhile, the men were surrounding Kaelen at the cider barrel. The Blacksmith handed him a flask of a dark, potent brew. "Drink up, lad. This is the 'Old Man's Fire.' It'll ensure that tonight, you've got the stamina of a stallion and the heart of a lion. You'll thank me in the morning."
Kaelen took a long, skeptical swig. The liquid hit his stomach like a lightning bolt, a sudden, heavy heat blooming in his veins.
He looked across the clearing at Julian, and his pupils blown wide.
He didn't need the drink to want Julian, but the "Fire" was certainly making his skin feel three sizes too small.
The New Chapter
As the moon climbed high, the men gathered to escort Kaelen back to the cottage.
They played more firecrackers, the golden sparks raining down as they walked him to the porch.
They offered rowdy advice about the "new chapter" of their lives, clapping Kaelen's shoulders until he finally escaped inside.
The cottage was quiet, lit only by the dying embers in the hearth. Julian stood by the table, looking nervous but beautiful.
"They finally let you go?" Julian asked softly. "You've worked so hard today, Kaelen. Here, sit down. Let me bring you some fresh milk to help you relax and sleep-"
As Julian turned, Kaelen's hand clamped around his wrist, pulling him back. The heat radiating from Kaelen was palpable, his gaze dark and heavy with a desperate, primal intensity.
"I can't wait for milk, Julian," Kaelen rasped, his voice vibrating with the "Fire" in his blood and the love in his heart. "I've waited long enough to have my husband."
Before Julian could protest, Kaelen swept him up into his arms, his intent written in the fierce hunger of his eyes as he carried him toward their bedroom.
Marks bloomed across Julian's pale skin-bruises from Kaelen's fingers, bite marks from his teeth, scratches from his nails. Each one was a testament to their passion, a declaration of ownership that left Julian breathless and aching.
"Come for me," Kaelen commanded, his voice a low rumble in Julian's ear. "Come now, Julian."
Julian's body responded to Kaelen's command, his cock hardening and swelling as he began to lose control. He could feel the tension building deep within him, the pressure growing until it felt like it would burst.
Kaelen's hand came down on Julian's ass again, the sting sharp and painful but somehow also exhilarating. Julian whimpered, his body shaking with the force of his release.
"There you go," Kaelen growled, his voice thick with satisfaction. "That's my good boy."
As Julian's orgasm receded, Kaelen slowed his pace, his movements becoming more tender, more loving. He wrapped his arms around Julian's waist, pressing a kiss to the back of his neck.
"I love you," Julian whispered, his voice choked with emotion. Kaelen's response was a soft, contented hum, his body still buried deep within Julian's.
They remained like that for a long moment, their hearts beating in sync, their bodies entwined. Then, slowly, Kaelen began to pull out, his movements gentle and deliberate. Julian let out a soft sigh as he felt the emptiness left in his wake, the reminder of Kaelen's possession.
"I'll be back," Kaelen promised, his voice heavy with regret. "I have to take care of some things, but I'll be back as soon as I can."
Julian nodded, his heart aching at the thought of being apart from Kaelen even for a short time. But he knew this was necessary, this life they'd chosen together. He could only hope that when Kaelen returned, their passion would burn brighter than ever before.
Kaelen pulled out of Julian completely, turning to grab his clothes and dress quickly. His eyes lingered on Julian for a moment longer than necessary, his heart heavy with emotion.
"I love you," he whispered one last time before disappearing out the door.
Hours later, the door burst open once again. Kaelen staggered in, his eyes glazed and unfocused, his clothing disheveled. He smelled strongly of alcohol, the pungent odor mingling with the sweat and dirt clinging to his skin.
"Kaelen?" Julian called out, sitting up in bed, his voice laced with concern. As Kaelen's form materialized fully in the dim candlelight, Julian's brow furrowed. "Is everything alright?"
Kaelen's response was a drunken laugh, a harsh bark of sound that grated against Julian's nerves. He stumbled closer, his movements jerky and uncoordinated.
"It's fine," he mumbled, his speech slurred. "Just needed to blow off some steam. Those bastards think they can boss me around..."
His words trailed off as he grabbed Julian's arm, yanking him to his feet. Julian stumbled, his heart pounding in alarm as Kaelen spun him around and slammed him against the wall.
"What are you doing?" Julian gasped, his palms flat against the wood paneling. "Kaelen, you're scaring me."
Kaelen chuckled darkly, his breath hot against Julian's ear. "You should be scared," he rasped, his hands roaming possessively over Julian's body. "Because right now, I feel like destroying something beautiful."
Julian shivered, fear and arousal warring within him. Kaelen's hands found his pants, tearing at the fabric with impatient, rough movements. Julian bit back a cry as the coarse material scraped against his skin, his body already reacting to Kaelen's touch despite his misgivings.
"You don't want this," Julian whispered, his voice thin and tremulous. "Not like this, Kaelen."
But Kaelen was beyond reasoning, consumed by the darkness churning within him. He spun Julian around, pushing him roughly onto the bed. Julian landed with a grunt, his body jolting as Kaelen climbed on top of him.
"This is exactly what I want," Kaelen growled, his hips grinding against Julian's. "To remind myself why I fight. Why I live."
Julian's heart raced, his body trembling beneath Kaelen's as the man continued to grind against him. The alcohol in Kaelen's system only served to heighten the roughness of his movements, the desperation in his eyes.
Kaelen's hands were rough, callused from years of hard labor. They left marks on Julian's skin as they gripped him tightly, pulling him closer. Julian could feel the anger radiating from Kaelen, the raw power that seemed to consume him.
"Please," Julian begged, his voice shaking with fear and desire. "Kaelen, stop. This isn't right."
But Kaelen didn't stop. Instead, he reached down between them, his fingers finding Julian's cock. He gripped it roughly, jerking him off in time with the rhythm of their bodies. Julian moaned, his body arching up against Kaelen as the pleasure built within him.
"Come for me," Kaelen growled, his eyes wild and intense. "Let me see you come, Julian. Let me know that I'm worth fighting for."
And Julian did, his orgasm exploding through him like a wave. He cried out, his body bucking beneath Kaelen as he came, the sound echoing through the room.
Kaelen's own release followed shortly after, his body shuddering above Julian's as he came deep inside him. Julian could feel the warmth spreading through him, the proof of Kaelen's possession.
When it was over, Kaelen collapsed onto Julian's chest, his breathing ragged and heavy. Julian's heart ached, the love and fear warring within him. He didn't know if this was the right way to love someone, but he knew that he loved Kaelen.
"I love you," Julian whispered, his voice soft and trembling.
Kaelen's response was a soft, contented hum, his body still pressed against Julian's. "I love you too,"
