CHAPTER FORTY
The sensation in my belly was strange.
When the dagger struck, the pain came as a mighty flare.
But before I could scream, it shifted to a cold burn, destroying my ability to make a sound.
Ice slithered through my veins, not unlike the blood magic.
In fact, it probably was some sort of magical poison from the blade racing through me, petrifying my body.
Killing me.
At least I was back in Miko’s arms.
“Hold on,” he said.
My eyelids were heavy, the coldness dragging me into darkness. But I saw the gleam of sadness in his eyes, the torture on his handsome face.
I don’t want to go…
“Please, Orion. Please don’t die. You’re… You’re making…” His shuddery breath triggered so much sorrow within me. “You’re making me feel so alive.”
Lance laughed in the distance and there was commotion somewhere off to the side, a burst of bright red light. But my fading vision stayed fixed on the face of the alpha as my life began to slip away.
Great. Cut down at the last moment by some absolute assbug.
