34. Chapter Thirty-Three

They were currently sitting in Mac’s office the next day. People were still over at her house, taking things out. It was stressing her out and Mac didnt want that for her. So they decided to bring work to his office.

It was a nice office and Mac had set up a little table for her. It was cute and very thoughtful of him. Something he didnt need to do but he had. When had a guy ever done that for her? Donald definitely didnt.

They were also at the club because Mac didnt want them home alone. She didnt understand but they had argued for several minutes before she gave in. He needed to go to work and said that if she was staying then he would try and work from home. It hadnt made her feel good so she sucked it up and now theyre here.

Janie didnt have her full setup. Normally she had her computer, a monitor, notebooks, and several other things but she was making do with just her computer and a notebook. It wasnt the end of the world and this wasnt going to be her new setup. It was temporary and that was what she had to keep reminding herself of.

“Is everything okay?” Mac asked.

She looked at him and gave him a smile. She had zoned out yet again. Janie didnt know how many times she was going to do that today.

“Everything is fine,” she whispered. “Was just thinking.” Janie looked down at Eleanor playing with the toys he had set out for her. She was jealous. While she loved working, she also wanted to play and it seemed like recently she didnt have the time to play as much anymore.

“Do you need to take a nap? Are you tired? Did you sleep well last night?” He asked.

As much as she wanted to have his arms wrapped around her throughout the night, she had decided to sleep in her own bed. It was tempting when he asked her again if she wanted to sleep in his bed with him. She so badly wanted to say yes but she knew that they werent going to get together and she didnt want to get attached. She didnt want to have a great night of sleep in his arms only to not have it anymore.

That would be torture.

“I dont need a nap. Im not tired and I slept okay last night,” she replied.

“Hmmm, well see in a couple hours if you need a nap. You are looking a little tired right now but I know you have work to do,” he said.

She huffed and rolled her eyes. Him and naps. He always wanted her and Eleanor to take a nap and she didnt understand why. Sure, she always put Eleanor down for a nap but she didnt need a nap.

Janie looked down at Eleanor playing on the carpet again. She was so calm and entranced in what she was doing. Janie wished she could do that right now with editing. She was a little behind but nothing but some hard work couldnt get her caught up.

She looked back at her computer screen and tried to start editing again. But her mind wasnt on that. It was on the fact that Mac had started to step up. He had taken them in when they didnt have a house anymore and he had been taking care of both of them. Maybe it was changing her mind a little about wanting to be with him but she needed to remind herself that it couldnt happen.

Mac needed someone that could be there for him and not have any distractions. She had several distractions. Well, she wouldnt call all of them distractions but she had other priorities. Eleanor was one of her priorities and she wasnt giving Ellie up. She also had work and while it didnt take up most of her time, it did take up some of it.

If they got together, would he want her to quit? He had mentioned several times that he knew she didnt need his money and he was right. Not having a house payment had allowed her to save up a lot of money. She had a nice savings account.

Janie still hadnt said anything to Mac about her choice. While she knew that she needed to say no, part of her still wanted to think about it and see if there was anything she could do to make it work. But it all came back to Eleanor and if he would want her in a couple of years. Would he start to resent her?

There is no real way to ask him that. Because he could say that he wouldnt resent her but lie. She didnt want to put herself in that situation because every time she would choose her daughter. Even if it meant her heart breaking at the same time.

Janie sighed and closed her eyes for a second. She needed to stop thinking about this and get back to work. But it was hard when the man she was thinking of was sitting a couple feet away from her.

“What are you thinking?” Mac asked.

She looked over at him to see him leaning against his desk. Janie licked her lips as she thought about her fantasy coming true in the office. It had always been one of her fantasies but Donald definitely wasnt up for it. One time she had hinted at wanting to do something different than just missionary and he did not like that at all. He was vanilla and always hated when she brought anything up about the club or trying new things.

But seeing Mac sit behind his desk, looking all dominant and hot made her get all warm and fuzzy inside but also turned on. She definitely knew if she had mentioned something to him about her fantasies, that he would make it come true.

“Pinky?” He said. “What are you thinking?”

“How life is so messed up,” she said. “Nothing has been going my way or any way that is beneficial for me and Eleanor.”

“Life is going to get better. This is just a little bump along the way. If you look at it from a bigger picture, its going to be okay. Everything is going to be okay.”

She sighed once again. There he went again saying that everything was going to be okay. How did he know that everything was going to be okay? He couldnt see into the future. She couldnt either and it was worrying her.

“I want you to try and not worry about it,” Mac said. “Im going to make sure that everything is okay.”

She nodded her head and looked back at her computer. She needed to get back to editing before the day slipped away. Janie had already wasted time thinking about everything.

Time passed and before she knew it, theres a knock on the door before Leo and Michael walked into Mac’s office. She had forgotten that they were coming over to talk about something with Mac. She had no clue what it was and she probably wouldnt understand it if he explained it to her.

“How are you and Ellie?” Michael asked. “Did she get over her sickness?”

Janie nodded her head. “Shes all better now. Playing and having a great time.”

“And how are you doing?”

She shrugged her shoulders. “Okay.”

Michael turned towards Mac. “Is she eating, sleeping, and getting enough fluids in the day? Is she taking a nap?”

She huffed out of breath and crossed her arms. They didnt need to talk about her right in front of her. She had answered his questions that she was doing okay. What else was she supposed to say? That she was stressed beyond belief because she had gotten kicked out of her house?

“Were still working on getting enough fluids in but she has been eating better and taking a nap. Ive been making sure that she eats enough and gets a nap when she looks tired,” Mac replied.

“Im right here,” Janie said.

“And you werent truthful when you answered me,” Michael replied. “You need to get more fluids in. We dont want you to get dehydrated.”

She rolled her eyes and looked back at her computer.

“I dont know if weve officially met,” Leo said. “Im Leo and Hedda is mine and Oliver’s Middle.”

“Nice to meet you,” she whispered.

She had known who he was, but they had never really talked much. She had never been interested in him or his brother. Janie had seen them around the club and she had gotten to know Hedda better since she was an official member of the club and coming to events.

“Im going to go back to work,” she said.

She went back to editing while the guys talked. She was almost done with a really long chapter. Her phone started to blow up with text messages a couple minutes later. Janies whole body flinched and went rigid as they kept coming in. She knew who it was, Donald. But she didnt want to read them anymore.

Janie went back to editing the book. The book was about a werewolf and his mate. How the werewolf was protecting a farm from any harm coming its way and found his mate, who worked there. It was a sweet story about hardship and them falling in love with each other.

Her phone went off again and she sighed. She wanted so badly to put it on silent, but she couldnt. Her authors texted her and she needed to be available. Her sister also texted her and she didnt want to miss anything.

“Do you need to leave the room to take that?” Mac asked.

She looked up and all three of their eyes were on her. She gave them a shaky smile and shook her head.

“No, I dont need to take it,” she whispered, trying to keep her voice from shaking. Janie had no clue if she did it enough since she looked away from them. Their gazes were too intense and she knew if she continued to look at them, she was going to crack.

“Are you sure?” Mac asked. “Because you can step right outside if you need to. Ill watch over Eleanor.”

She shook her head and gave him a tight smile. “I dont need to take it. Its just text messages.”

Before any of them could say anything else, she looked back at her computer and started to work. She was not going to get away with that. He was going to ask her some questions and she wasnt prepared for that.

“Well, Ill see you later,” Michael said.

“Maybe all of our girls can have a play date sometime soon,” Leo said. “Ill get in contact with you and some of the other Daddies.”

“Sounds good,” Mac replied.

“Janie, dont fight your Daddy on any naps. And drink your water,” Michael said. “I dont want to have to see you for being sick or dehydrated for a long time.”

She looked at him and nodded her head. Mac wasnt her Daddy, but she wasnt up for an argument right now. She also didnt want to embarrass Mac in any way. Janie was going to have to have a conversation with him. Had he told them that they were together?

Leo and Michael left the room and her phone went off again. She flinched and picked it up, reading through a couple of them.

Donald

Such a dirty little slut

Donald

You’ll be begging me to take you back and I’ll make you work for it.

Donald

He’s just using you for sex. The only good thing about you is your body.

Donald

We’ll get your tubes tied before anything happens. Don’t want another evil brat.

Tears pulled in her eyes as her hands started to shake. Why was Donald sending her these messages? Why was he being so rude? Why did she deserve this?

“Is everything okay?” Mac asked.

She blinked several times before looking at him and nodding her head. “Yeah.”

“Just your authors messaging you?”

She nodded her head again. “Yep. Just telling me about the sad book one of them is writing.”

It was another lie. They were stacking up and tearing her apart inside. She could feel the knot starting to form in her stomach from all the lies she had told him. Why couldnt she just tell him? Maybe if she did tell him he would back off and try to find somebody else.
