Chapter Six

Simon watched Casey’s different emotions. He knew she was going to try something, so he’d have to be extra watchful.

He had to get through to her and sayhe wanted her with him. He had wanted to put it off until she was released, but now he thought it was better in the hospital because she was stuck for the moment.

Trent walked in with a sack and drink carrier. “Good morning, Sunshine,” he said to Casey.

She smiled hesitantly. “Good morning.”

Trent set everything down on the rolling table and handed Simon a coffee. He opened the bag and set out several sandwiches. “Here you go, Honey. I thought you’d like an orange juice and croissant sandwich.”

“It smells good. Thank you.”

“I want you to drink all your juice, Baby,” Simon said as he sat at the end of the bed.

Casey nodded. He watched as she sipped her juice and ate the whole sandwich. He took the wrapper from her and tossed it in the bag.

“Have you been by the office?” he asked.

Trent nodded. “Yeah. Everything’s under control. I’ve got it handled, so I don’t want you to worry.”

“Damn. I appreciate it,” Simon said.

“You’d do the same for me,” Trent said.

“You’re damn right I would.”

“Did you bring any clothes for me, Trent?” she asked.

He looked confused.

“I’m having someone else bring clothes for you,” Simon told her.

“Is that my surprise?”

Simon chuckled. “Yes. That’s part of it.”

“Do you think it would be okay if I took a shower?” Casey asked.

“I think you’re probably strong enough, but let’s wait for the doctor.” He had to hold back his smile when her bottom lip puffed out in a pout. He grabbed the remote and turned on the TV. He went through the channels until he came to some cartoons. He handed her thepuppy. “Rest for a bit. He should be in soon.”

“By the way, what’s the puppy’s name?” Trent asked.

“Booboo,” she told him without taking her eyes off the TV.

“That’s nice.” Trent glanced at him, and theysmiled.

The doctor, Daniel, came in a few minutes later.

Simon grinned when he saw that Casey had no idea since she was engrossed with the cartoon. The men talked for a bit before the doctor interrupted the show.

“Casey, can you give me a minute so I can check you out?” the doctor said.

Casey turned to look at him and then blushed when she realized she hadn’t known he was there.

“Yes, Doctor. I’m sorry.”

“Don’t be sorry,” Daniel said. “I like to watch cartoons too.”

Her eyes widened. “Really? But you’re … a grown-up.”

The men laughed.

“Some people would say men never grow up,” Trent said.

Casey snickered.

“How about if you lay down so I can check you out?”

Simon helped lower the bed and then adjusted the blanket. He watched as Daniel checked out her stitches. He watched the blush that covered her face when the gown was pulled to the side, practically baring her breast. Simon was pleased when Daniel talked matter-of-factly about baseball and took care to keep her covered as much as possible. He also let her hug her puppy, which helped.

“Things are looking good. How do you feel?” Daniel asked.

“I’m sore. My hands hurt, and they barely got cut.”

Daniel looked at him and raised a brow.

Simon made her focus on him. “Baby, you were gripping the steering wheel really hard. It took some effort on my part to unlock the fingers of your right hand.”

“I remember. I got my left hand free to wipe the blood off my face so I could see. It didn’t work.”

Daniel nodded. “The cut at your hairline was oozing. Without a cloth and pressure, you wouldn’t have had a chance.”

“She was incredibly brave,” Simon said and squeezed her shoulder. “The car started to rock, and she told me to get away from it, so I wouldn’t get hurt.” He looked down at her. “Do you remember that, Baby?”

Casey nodded. “I was afraid.”

Daniel cleared his throat. “Well, everything is looking good. If it gets red or puffy, come back to the ER.”

Casey nodded. “I can do that.”

Simon bit his lip to keep from smiling. Daniel had been talking to him and not her because he knew he’d be taking her home with him.

Daniel wrote some things down. “I’ll have a nurse bring in discharge papers.”

Casey nodded. “Thank you very much.”

Daniel patted her foot. “You’re welcome.” He shook his and Trent’s hands and walked to the door.

Daniel turned back to them. “You do know you’re a lucky bastard, don’t you?”

Simon chuckled. “Yes.”

“Good. It’s hard finding sweet women like this.”

“Oh, I know,” Simon said. “I’ve been looking for a while.”

“Me, too. Have a good day.” Daniel waved and walked out the door.

“Simon, can I sit up again and watch TV?”

“Yes. Let me help.”

He got her situated and then walked to where Trent sat. They started talking about work when the door opened, and four littles walked in with two of the daddies.

Simon stood to greet them. The men grinned when they noticed the girls staring at each other with wide eyes. They waited to see how long it would take for the girls to move.

After a minute, Kaleb cleared his throat, getting their attention.

Simon walked to the bed and took her hand. “Baby, this is the surprise I was talking about.”

“You know them?” she whispered.

“Yes.”

“Are they nice?”

Aleena walked to the bed. “Hi, I’m Aleena, and I’m nice. These girls are, too. Well, Riley can be a pain in the as … butt sometimes.”

Simon watched Riley gasp. “That is not true.”

Brylee snorted. “Really, Riley?”

Aleena pointed to her. “That’s Brylee, and the other one is Kinley.”

“I’m Casey.”

“It’s nice to meet you,” Kinley said. “My daddy told me you had an accident?”

Casey nodded. “Yes. A man came around a curve, and I guess he didn’t see me and pushed me over the edge.”

All four girls gasped, and a few had tears in their eyes.

“Did you pee your pants?” Riley asked. “I would have.”

Cassey shook her head. “I don’t think so.”

Kinley placed a sack on the bed by her feet. “We brought a few things.”

Simon watched the confusion on Casey’s face until the little dumped clothing on top of the blanket, and then her expression turned to excitement.

“What is this?” Casey asked as she fingered one of the shirts.

“Our daddies said you needed something to wear, and we have so many clothes, and we wanted to meet you, so here we are,” Riley said and threw out her hands dramatically.

The men grinned as the girls started talking at the same time. They were all so animated,he could have watched them all day.

Simon looked over at Trent and saw the wistful look in his eyes. He patted his back. “You’ll find your own little, man.”

Trent nodded. “I hope so.”

Simon turned back to the girls and saw they had picked an outfit out of the pile of clothing. He grinned when the girls wanted to dress her in front of the guys. The littles he knew weren’t modest. They couldn’t be because their daddies liked to show them off.

Casey glanced at him with wide eyes.

He walked to her and put a hand on her shoulder. “Would you like me to take you in the bathroom and help you dress?”

He grinned at the blush on her face.

“Um. No. Can they help me?”

“Of course. Girls, would you help Casey into the bathroom and get her dressed?”

The four girls clapped and practically lifted Casey off the bed and dragged her into the bathroom.

Simon was surprised that all five could fit in the small room together. He heard some knocks and thuds against the door and a lot of giggling, but it seemed to work. He was surprised to hear the shower. He heard the girls gush about how pretty Casey’s hair was, and he could just imagine her face.

Ten minutes later, the girls came out. His eyes locked on his girl. She had on a pretty multicolored skirt and a lacey top. She even had bobby socks on. Her hair was still damp, but they had it falling down behind her back in tight curls. The red was darker, but he knew it would lightenas her hair dried. Fuck, even with the cuts on her, she was the most beautiful thing he’d ever seen.

She walked to him and stood with her head tilted back so she could see his face. “Is this okay?” she asked and pointed to her clothing.

“Baby, I think it’s perfect. I don’t know if your shoes are wearable.”

“I have more in my box,” Casey told him.

“I’ll find out where it is.”

Her eyes widened. “My stuff. Everything I owned was in those boxes.”

He could see her anxiety rise, so he gripped her shoulders. “Baby, listen to me. I promise I’ll find everything. I don’t want you to stress about it.”

Her shoulders relaxed, but he caught a look in her eyes he didn’t like. He’d wait until they were alone to ask her about it.
