Chapter Twenty

W hen Sadie finally drifted back to her body, still trembling with delicious aftershocks, she somehow found the strength to open her eyes and lift up onto her forearms. Damn, her heart fluttered at the sight of Dale rolling a condom over his long, thick, hard length.

Sexiest thing ever.

The man was ripped, solid, and rock-hard everywhere. Yearning gripped her so tightly, the heat dwindling in her body reignited with a vengeance.

“You, Dale Taylor, are mouthwatering and magnificent.”

A sexy, lopsided grin tugged at his talented mouth, and his warm, open gaze melted her heart. “And you, Sadie Quinn, taste so exceptionally sweet.”

She sat up, suddenly desperate to hold him, to feel him inside her. Sadie pulled him close, devouring his lips, kissing him hungrily and deeply, while she slid her arms around and up his back. His muscles flexed under her palms, and he returned her kiss with equal enthusiasm.

After several blissful moments and a lack of oxygen, she drew back to catch her breath.

“Can’t get enough of you,” he muttered between breaths.

She nodded. “Ditto.”

“What a great problem to have.” He smiled.

Again, Sadie nodded. “The best.”

Something warm and fierce flashed through Dale’s eyes a second before he cupped her face and placed feather-light kisses up her jaw and to her temple. Sadie’s heart skipped a beat then raced at the sweet, pure, raw emotion this amazing man evoked in her. His tender kisses continued over one eye, then the other, before he made his way down to her mouth, where—heaven help her—he took his time, kissing slow and long and with a depth that surpassed every kiss they'd shared before.

She felt comforted, protected, and cherished, and her heart swelled to overflowing.

What was taking place felt so damn amazing and right. Exactly what she’d always suspected. They were meant for each other.

She reached up to caress his face, and he immediately turned his head into her touch and kissed her palm. Her heart skipped another beat. “Dale…I…”

“I feel it too, Sadie,” he said, grabbing her hips to tug her to the edge of the desk.

Then he was kissing her again, hungrily, desperately, as if showing her exactly how she affected him. To know she had that much power over such a virile, potent man—the grown-up version of the boy she’d fallen for years ago—made her feel incredible. Invincible. Like she could take on the world and win.

All too briefly, he ended the kiss but then he slid a hand under her knee and lifted her leg, and she automatically hooked it around his hip. She moaned, unable to help it because his thick erection brushed against the spot that ached for him the most.

“You are my sanctuary, Sadie,” he said, then holding her gaze, he slowly shoved inside her.

Breath clogged her throat, and her eyes drifted closed, momentarily enjoying their undeniably perfect connection.

“Perfect,” he muttered her thought out loud, in a deliciously strained tone.

Her eyes flew open, and the look of raw, pure, pleasure, tightening his features nearly set her off.

“Yes, we are,” she agreed, smiling into his hot, desire-laden gaze.

Dale lifted her hand and set it on his chest, and her pulse leapt, matching the strong beat under her palm. “We’re where we belong.”

Her throat heated and eyes burned, and all she could do was nod.

He released her hand and shoved his in her hair, curling his fingers around her neck and head as he brought her lips to his. “Together,” he said against her mouth, then slowly began to thrust.

An undiscernible sound rippled up her throat at the amazing feel of the man gliding in and out of her. Only he knew her rhythm.

Sadie met each thrust, moving with him, running a hand down his heated body to just above their connection. He let out a deep, sexy groan, and she felt it all the way to her tingling toes. The man was perfection personified.

He wrapped an arm around her back and hauled her in closer, nuzzling her favorite spot behind her ear.

Sadie sucked in a breath as goosebumps spread over her heated flesh. It felt amazing. He was amazing. Never had she been this open, this close, to a man before. Probably because she never wanted to be.

Only Dale had access to those deep wants and needs. And only Dale could make her feel desired, protected, and crazy with desire all at the same time.

She clutched his back, lost in the feeling of their slick bodies pressed chest to chest, heart to heart. The feel of her nipples brushing his muscled pecs was the most incredible sensation, and she was so grateful to fate for bringing Dale back into her life again.

He sank his teeth into her neck, and heat flooded her core. Sadie moaned, nearly unhinged.

“Dale…”

He lifted his head to stare into her eyes, while he continued to move inside her. “Love hearing my name on your lips.” Then he gripped her hip and changed the angle before he drove deeper, faster, harder.

So good.

Wanting to give back, to make him feel just as aroused and turned on, Sadie whispered his name again and again. He deserved to know what he did to her. His straining muscles, his incredible body brushing against hers, and the fierce, raw need in his eyes as he moved inside her were so intense and perfect, she would never forget the moment.

With her whole body taut with a need consuming her thoughts and movements, she gripped Dale’s hips and bucked wildly, uncaring that her moaning and panting echoed around them in an erotic rush.

“Right here with you,” he murmured, then slid a hand between them and pressed his thumb over the spot where they were connected, and she lost her mind.

Sadie cried out, gripping his shoulders. Dale took her out of herself and brought her to a new and wondrous realm, and just like that, she burst in a flash of heat and pleasure so fierce the world disappeared until only the two of them existed.

A second later, he gripped both her hips and shoved deep, his eyes twin pools of liquid heat as he called her name and shuddered with his own strong release.

When the fog in her brain subsided and her vision returned, she watched him grip the edge of the desk and shift back enough to stare at her body, which he’d rendered boneless.

“You were amazing.” He brushed his lips across her temple and slowly pulled all the way out.

Sadie wanted to protest, but she knew she had work to do, and for the first time in days, she felt ready to tackle it. “Then that makes you magnificent. So, Mr. Magnificent, whatever you do, don’t let go of me yet. I think all the bones in my body have melted.”

“I won’t.” He grinned and kissed the tip of her nose. “I’ve got you.”

She patted the taut muscle in his upper arm. “And I’ve got you.”

His gaze sobered, and he regarded her closely. “Sure you’re okay?”

“Yes.” She smiled and scraped her thumb over his jaw. “As long as you’re with me, Dale, I’m more than okay.”

“Good to know.” Tightening his grip on her hips, Dale brushed a light kiss along her hairline. “I’m not going anywhere, Sadie.” he promised, his voice a low, soothing rumble. He drew back just enough to look into her eyes, his gaze filled with a mix of determination and tenderness. “You’re stuck with me.”

Her stomach fluttered, and a warmth spread through her chest. “Being stuck with you sounds pretty perfect,” she whispered, her voice carrying the tender weight of her emotions. She placed her hand over his, where it rested on her hip, giving it a gentle squeeze. “And I wouldn’t have it any other way.”

Leaning in, she pressed a soft kiss to his lips, her heart swelling with the certainty that this was exactly where she was meant to be.

She was also meant to get some content done.

Sighing, she shook her head. “I guess I’d better get back to work.”

“Yeah?” His brows shot up and excitement lit his gaze. “While naked?”

Laughing, she slapped his shoulder. “No. Of course, not.”

“Damn.” He chuckled. “You going to be okay if I release you?”

“Yes. Thank you.”

“Damn,” he said again, a small smile tugging at his lips as he released her and disappeared into the bathroom to take care of business.

Sadie used the time to quickly pull on her clothes. She was under no illusions that all it would take was one heated glance or sinful touch and she’d be ready to forget work and jump his bones.

When he walked back into the room, disappointment furrowed his brow. “Damn,” he grumbled for the third time. “I missed the end of the Sadie show.”

The Sadie show?

She snorted. “Sorry. I’ll make it up to you later.”

A wide grin spread across his face. “Deal.”

As he finished getting dressed, Sadie returned her camera to its original place, knowing she’d never look at her desk or the room the same ever again. The hot, amazing memory they’d just created would forever be utmost in her mind.

The man had accomplished what he’d set out to do. He’d changed the feel of the place. Took her out of herself, brought her to bliss, returned to her to earth with her head on straight, and her backbone in place.

This was her sanctuary, and no one was going to take it from her again.

“Does Tesla come up here?” Dale asked, tugging his last piece of clothing in place.

She nodded. “Yeah, why?”

“Maybe we should sleep here tonight.” He smiled. “You, know, stack a few more good memories together for you.”

Sadie stepped over to him and set a hand on his chest. “I like the way you think.”

“That’s not all you like,” he said, a smug grin spreading across his face.

His mouth was a mere inch from hers when the sound of footsteps running up the stairs met their ears. Dale immediately pushed her behind his back a second before someone pounded on the door. The force matched that of her thudding heart.

“Dale? Sadie? Open up.” Cooper’s voice rang out, sending a rush of relief through her body, followed by alarm at his concerned tone.

“Coming,” Dale called, striding to the door.

Sadie followed close behind.

When Dale opened the door, her chest squeezed tight at the somber expression on the guy’s face.

“What’s going on?” Dale asked.

“You two need to come to the house. Now,” Copper replied. “Hunter found another machete.”
