Chapter 22

BB

She was worried about my son.

It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to see that Beau was completely freaking out about me claiming her home as ours.

I can tell she’s worried. Hell, she’s as skittish as a newborn colt.

That doesn’t bother me. It might take her a bit to feel comfortable with all of the changes in her life, but I know she loves having me and Ty in her house.

I know she loves falling asleep in my arms every night.

Hell, she might even love it half as much as I do.

I just need to somehow make her finally believe that what we have is real.

It seems simple, but it’s anything but where Beau is concerned.

My woman has more guards up than the freaking royal palace.

To be honest, I’m surprised that I got this close to her—but I’m damn thankful.

I follow a step behind her as she goes to her garage. She looks at me and gives me a nervous smile. “Don’t you have to get back to the club?”

“I’m done today. I’m going to stick close to you.

We’ll go pick up Ty together. Dad knows Ty’s principal.

He and Skull will make sure he’s protected.

Ty already knows to stay away from anyone he doesn’t know.

It sucks, but I made him hyper aware of that.

The club will always have enemies—more so in the past than now, but they’re out there. ”

She nods. “We really need to talk, Hunter. I think we went from zero to sixty in the blink of an eye here.”

I grin at her, then snake my hand out to capture her.

I pull her body close to mine and then kiss the hell out of her.

I groan as the taste of her mouth surrounds my tongue.

It’s all I can do not to pick her up and carry her back into the house and into the bedroom.

I force myself to end the kiss—way before I want to.

“Want to blow off talking with Grifter?” I ask, only half kidding.

“What was that kiss for?” she asks, sounding dazed. Pride fills me as I take in the glazed look in her eyes and the dreamy tone of her voice.

“Because you’re my woman and I needed to remind you of that.”

She frowns. “That’s …”

“Hey, Beau. Did we show up at a bad time?” Grifter says, grabbing our attention.

I turn to face Grifter and another man. I’ve met Grifter once, but it has been a while back.

I was only prospecting back then. Thank God that’s not the case now.

I don’t want Beau to see me as inferior in any way.

I’ve fucked up enough with her. I don’t want her to regret being with me.

“Hey, Griff. No. You have perfect timing. We were just headed out to meet you,” Beau says with a smile. I don’t like her smiling at him. My body vibrates with the need to claim her.

He studies me for a minute, and I move toward him, and hold out my hand. “BB. Beau is my old lady,” I announce, with a grin that only deepens when she doesn’t deny it.

“You look familiar,” he says, studying me.

“We met a while back. You weren’t with the KOA then. I was just prospecting. You dealt with Skull and my dad.”

“Oh, yeah. You had that bitch on the back of your bike. Good to see your taste in women has improved.”

“You have no idea,” I murmur, refusing to let him get a rise out of me.

Instead, I step back into my woman, looping my arm around her back and resting my fingers on her side.

I kiss her temple. She turns to look at me in surprise and I stare into her eyes and tell her the absolute truth.

“I’m a blessed man that Beau even gives me the time of day, but I’m damn thankful. ”

“Hunter,” she whispers.

“Damn thankful.”

“This is C. He’s my VP.”

“Name’s Candyman,” the guy says, pointing to the patch on his cut. “Grift just doesn’t like calling me that. I tell him it’s not my fault the women all find me so sweet.”

“BB where is Dad? This is bullshit!” Izzy cries as she runs up to me, King following behind her.

I cock an eyebrow at my sister as I look at King. He shrugs. “Your dad wanted her home while all the bullshit was going on,” he said, not giving details since we’re not alone. He eyes Grifter and Candyman closely.

“King this is Grifter, he’s the new President of the KOA here in Tennessee.”

“Beau’s said good things about you,” King says, walking over and taking Grifter’s hand with a chin lift.

“Same,” Grifter responds, surprising me. I look at Beau and she just shrugs. “This is C. my second,” he adds.

“Seriously, BB! I want to speak to dad. I have finals coming up. I can’t afford this shit.”

“Izzy,” I growl. “There’s shit going down. Go on inside and Dad will explain it when he gets back with Ty.”

“I don’t have time to wait. I’ve already missed today’s classes. Do you have any idea how far back that will set me this time of year?”

“It’s better than being dead,” I snap. Izzy’s body jerks back as if I hit her.

I rake my hand through my hair, not liking that I yelled at Izzy.

I just don’t need her arguing over every little thing.

I may be all about the club, but Izzy took the other extreme.

She loves her family, but she doesn’t want to be part of the club.

She’s going to the University of Kentucky to become a doctor.

She’s at the top of her class. I knew she would be upset when Dad told me last night that he was going to bring her home until we figured out the exact source behind Robin.

Robin hates Izzy, so it makes sense that she might lash out at her, too.

So, even though I understand why my sister is so upset about being forced to come back home, I don’t disagree with Dad or Skull at all.

I know she values her independence, but our main job is to keep the people we love safe.

“Hunter,” Beau whispers, when she looks at Izzy. I notice Izzy’s face has gone pale and I berate myself under my breath. Izzy’s forehead crinkles as she studies Beau.

“Hunter?” she says with a small grin.

“Izzy,” I nearly groan.

“It’s odd isn’t it, BB?”

“What’s odd?” I grumble, scrubbing my face with my hand in agitation.

“That Dad had them bring me here instead of the clubhouse. I mean it is a lockdown, right?”

“I imagine Dad will be back to get you. He’s at the school making sure Ty is safe, while I stay close to Beau.”

Her grin deepens. “You finally forgave him for being a dick, Beau?”

“Damn it, Izzy,” I growl.

Beau laughs, the sound like tinkling bells, spreading warmth inside of me. I look at her and she smiles, and I join her. “He’s slowly making progress,” Beau confirms.

“Yay! I have a new sister,” Izzy celebrates.

“What’s this about a lockdown? Is the club in trouble?” Grifter asks. I give him a look, pissed off he’d ask—even if I’d probably do the same. He immediately holds his hands up. “I’m just wondering so I can offer my club’s support if you need it.”

“Well,” I sigh. “It’s not so much a club thing as the bitch that used to be on the back of my bike causing issues,” I confess.

“Wait? My ass was dragged all the way here because of that bitch Robin?” Izzy hisses.

“It’s a nice ass,” Candyman puts in. I give him a look meant to shrivel his damn dick so he can’t use it around my sister. The bastard just gives me a cocky grin.

“Maybe the two of us can talk about an alliance while I’m here,” Grifter addresses King.

“I’d like that. The Blaze is in the process of rebuilding, but we’re getting there.

I’m a firm believer that the more allies you have, the harder it is for enemies to attack.

I have a wife and a baby girl, men and their families depending on me.

I don’t take that honor lightly,” King says, not blinking as he looks Grifter in the eye.

“Since finding my Georgia, I completely agree. You and I should definitely talk, besides my woman has a good feeling about you.”

“I don’t think I’ve met her,” King says, sounding confused and I have to admit, so am I.

“You haven’t. She just gets these visions sometimes—usually at night while she’s dreaming.”

“Interesting,” King says, probably thinking Grifter’s woman is probably a little nutty, but I suppose an alliance is an alliance when you need extra muscle at your back. “Head on over to the clubhouse once you get done here and we’ll talk.”

“Sounds good,” Grifter agrees.

“I’m going to go make a snack if I’m stuck here. Do you care, Beau?”

“Help yourself, Izzy,” Beau responds.

“Thanks,” she says, shooting me a dirty look and walking off.

“I don’t think your sister is happy with all of this,” Beau sighs as we watch her walk away.

“Izzy is rarely happy when it has to do with Robin—well, that and anything that interrupts her career path.”

“Are you ready to look at your newest moneymaker, Griff?” Beau asks, switching the subject and trying to get back on course.

“You know it,” he says as we walk to Beau’s personal garage—which is separate from the one her men use.

I know I don’t really need to be around, but honestly, I want to watch Beau in action.

It’s more than that, though. I’m addicted to her.

It’s torture being away from her. That might show her just how much she has me wrapped around her finger, but I don’t really give a damn.

It’s going to be my job from here on out to show her just how special she is to me.

It’s actually something that I’m looking forward to.

I just need to find a way to make her truly believe me when I tell her that she’s everything I’ll ever want.

I have a bad feeling that’s going to be hard to do.

It's a good thing I’m up for the challenge—especially if the prize is having Beau beside me for the rest of my life.
