Sneak Peek

There was a heaviness to the silence now. One that didn’t come from grief, or fear, but from the weight of too many unanswered questions because every truth seemed laced with a lie.

Athens sat at the edge of the bed, elbows on her knees, chin resting on her fists. The room was quiet, too quiet, and she was starting to hate the sound of her own heartbeat. Everything was still… Except her mind.

None of it added up. Real answers weren’t written down.

They were locked in people.

People like Josie who raised her after the people she was led to believe were her parents… Died. People like Gaia who was her sister, but seemed to be harboring secrets of her own. People like Bash . People who do things to reap the benefits, no matter who gets hurt along the way.

But now, when Athens looked back, she could see the gaps in her memories, sharp and surgical.

Half-truths dressed up like care. Deflections softened with motherly concern.

Why had she never asked more? Why had Josie really come back for her after her parents died?

And what exactly was she looking for when she found Gaia?

Gaia said she’d escaped something terrible, something dark, but Athens was beginning to wonder if Josie hadn’t found her by accident.

The Devils had their own questions. What were their fathers up to? Who was the cloaked figure seen in deep conversation with them all?How deep and far down do all the secrets and lies go?

Something bigger was coming.

They could feel it. Like the walls of Cliffside were holding their breath.

Athens didn’t know exactly what they were walking into, but she knew one thing… Whatever it was, she wouldn’t face it alone.

And neither would her Devils of Cliffside.
