EPILOGUE
Gio
Two Months Later
“Did she get everything moved in?” Matteo asks from behind his desk.
He waited until things calmed down and Bronwyn was back to her usual self. Well, for the most part.
Some nights she still wakes up out of a dead sleep thinking her dad is taking her again. I’m there to calm the storm, but lately every time it happens it feels like that same storm is building up inside me. Her dad may be dead, but Dimitri is still out there. He needs to pay for what he did.
“Yeah,” I answer as I lean back in my chair. “The studio is all cleaned out so we can get that unit listed.”
I knew the space was small, but I didn’t realize how little Bronwyn had until I was the one who had to move it all. We chucked most of the furniture. Her clothes and gaming shit fit in one load.
“Good.” Matteo nods. “I’ll have Enzo list it. Does she feel more settled?”
“Yeah, she’s slowly making my place how she wants it. I threw my card at her and told her to buy whatever she wants to make herself more comfortable.”
“And are you comfortable?”
“I will be when I have Dimitri’s dick in a box.” My eye twitches as I say his name.
“Aldo is out chasing a lead now. Hopefully, we’ll have some new information soon.”
I slap my hands on the armrests of the chair and push myself out of it. “I need to get home. A new couch is being delivered.”
“We’re going to get him, Gio,” Matteo calls after me.
“Oh, I know,” I call back.
If Aldo has a lead, I know he’s onto him.
Bronwyn
If someone had told me my life would be what it is now, I would have laughed in their face. A normal person might feel grief after their parent was murdered, but all I feel is relief. I hadn’t realized how much my dad was weighing me down until he was gone.
And Gio did that for me.
He’s always taking care of me in ways I would never think to do.
And that’s what I love most about him.
Plus, it’s pretty fucking hot knowing the man you’re with will literally kill someone for you with no questions asked.
It’s his idea of a good time, and I’m just along for the ride.
I never left his house after he brought me home that night. He packed a small bag for me to last long enough for me to get used to staying at his house, and then the next thing I knew all of my stuff was moved in, minus my furniture.
He threw his credit card at me and told me to make myself at home.
I refused to use it until he forced me to buy a couch.
“Cara,” Gio calls out as I hear the front door close.
“How was it?” I ask as I jog down the stairs to greet him.
Gio’s hands find their way to my waist as he places a kiss on my lips. “As expected. Aldo has a lead.”
“He’ll find him,” I say as I wrap my arms around him. “I know he will.”
Gio hums his agreement.
“Are you excited for your new couch?” he asks, changing the subject.
I know it’s been bothering him that he hasn’t been able to spend all his free time tracking down Dimitri. He wants to make him pay, and I get that.
“You mean the one you made me buy?” I tease, attempting to lighten the mood.
Gio smiles, but it doesn’t reach his eyes.
I squeeze my arms around him tighter as I place a kiss on his jaw. “You know karma doesn’t have a time limit, right? He’s going to get what’s coming to him.”
Gio’s chest rumbles against me as he kisses the top of my head. “I know.”
The doorbell rings, echoing throughout the house, making us break apart.
“Your couch is here,” I say as I move to answer the door.
“I can’t wait to break this one in with you.”
I laugh as I roll my eyes.
I know I’ll never have a dull day with Gio in my life, and I can’t wait to see how it plays out.
