35. Jealous Wittle Wabbit #2

A little while later, Sara dragged a finger over my chest before she disappeared with Jules and Riley towards the bathroom, strutting away from me with a wink.

I was getting incredibly desperate to steal her away for a dance when no one was looking, which, as the night ticked on, seemed to be getting harder and harder.

However, at that moment, I noticed Douglass had already found someone else to dance with. Someone who was not Jules. I wondered what he was like when Jules wasn’t around at all. Fucking dipshit .

When the song changed and Douglass put his hand somewhere it definitely shouldn’t have been, I’d had it.

I finally gripped his shoulder and said loudly, “Your girlfriend has been gone a while, maybe you should go check on her?” Aka, what the fuck are you doing?

Douglass gave me an irritated look and lowered his voice to hiss, “What the fuck?”

“Yeah,” I mouthed back, shooting him a look. “What the fuck?”

He glared at me, wiping his nose. “I’m just having a little fun.”

I squared up to him. “Why don’t you go find Jules , and have a little fun?”

“You know, Carter here is right. I should go check on my girlfriend, make sure she’s not getting herself into any trouble.

” He practically snarled through his slightly slurred words.

“But he’ll dance with you. Won’t you, Carter?

” He shoved the girl into my arms roughly before storming off like a petulant child.

I righted the girl, making sure she wasn’t going to fall over before I let go. “Sorry about that. He’s involved.” I added quickly. “And so am I.”

A tart little voice sounded from behind me. “You’re involved, huh?” Sloane came around my side.

Just great. “Maybe I am,” I muttered, heading for the bar.

Sloane cocked her head and promptly blocked my path. “With whom?” She asked sweetly.

“I don’t know what you’re talking about.” I dodged around her.

Sloane followed after me, not letting up. “Hmm, for some reason, I’m not finding that particularly convincing.”

“Did she say something?” I finally stopped and asked, shouting over the music.

“I don’t know. Do you want her to have said something?

” Sloane grinned, ineffectively hiding her smirk behind her drink.

“Oh, this is too much fun! You’ve both got it bad .

You finally kissed her, didn’t you?” Sloane sang, and I pursed my lips and said nothing, realizing Sara hadn’t said a damn thing to Sloane.

Good. I wanted Sara all to myself for a little bit. “Don’t you guys talk about these things?” I asked, starting for the bar again.

“She’ll tell me when she’s ready, and I’m not going to push her. Not when she looks happier than she’s looked all year.” Sloane nodded to Sara, who was already coming back from the bathroom.

Sara did look happy. She really did, she had a glow . I smirked, knowing I did that—me and my little pink pony friend.

“You kissed.” Sloane decided rather matter-of-factly.

I rolled my eyes, as if kissing even covered what I’d done to Sara last night. “Maybe we did.” I shrugged.

Sloane narrowed her eyes. “Just do me a favor, Kensington.” She lowered her voice to a menacing whisper. “Don’t fuck it up this time.”

“I don’t plan on it.” I gritted, kind of loving how protective Sara’s friends were.

“Do you have a plan at all?” Sloane asked pointedly. “You know what they say about a man without a plan.”

“I’m working on it.” I gave her a sarcastic smile. “Okay?”

“I guess we’ll see, won’t we?” Sloane shot me a menacing look.

“What are you two talking about?” Sara came up, rosy-cheeked, her ponytail swishing behind her.

Sloane tilted her head at me and said sweetly, “We’re talking about what a good planner Carter is.”

“Huh?” Sara grabbed Sloane’s pink drink out of her hand, taking a big sip.

Cade appeared and slung his arm around Sloane’s shoulders. “Wanna dance, blondie?”

Sloane rolled her eyes. “No.”

“You owe me.” Cade grinned.

“May I remind you that your DD-ing, is because you owe me .” Sloane said, staring down her nose at Cade, even though he was so much taller than her, even with her height and her heels .

Cade put his hands up. “Fine, if you don’t think you can handle all this.”

“Please.” Sloane grabbed Cade by the tie and dragged him behind her. “Let’s see if you can keep up, Blackthorn.” Cade raised his brows in surprised victory while he trailed behind Sloane’s lion’s mane of blonde hair.

Good. Let one feral animal chase the other rabid animal and leave my sweet wittle-wabbit alone ! I was finally all alone with the girl I couldn’t seem to track down all night, and it was about damn time!

“I wonder if something is going on between the two of them.” Sara pursed her lips, watching them disappear between the packed bodies.

I could give two shits about whatever was going on between the two of them. The only thing I cared about was the fact that they were both finally gone. “Think I’m going to get a dance with you before the night is up?” I cocked my head, drinking Sara in.

She bit her lip, looking around. “Should we?”

“I don’t see why not.” I said, loving the way her breath picked up when I closed the space between us. “You’ve danced with everyone else tonight.”

“True,” she breathed.

“Your brother didn’t seem to mind Cade putting his filthy, fucking hands all over you.” I said lowly.

“Oh my,” Sara bit her lip with a flirty smile. “Jealousy looks good on you, Kensington, you should try that look on more often.”

“You know what looks good on you ?” I leaned in with a rumbling chuckle. “Nothing at all.”

Her eyes twinkled. “I would say the same, but I wouldn’t know, because someone’s a prude.”

“Please, you’ve gotten an eyeful several times now.” I nearly lost it when she palmed me unexpectedly. “Fuck, Sara.”

“Maybe an eyeful just isn’t enough for me.” She pouted innocently as I grabbed her wrist with a groan. “Maybe I’m not wearing any underwear again, and maybe I’m desperate for you to find out for sure.”

I snaked my arm around her and hauled her against me, hardly able to pull in a full breath. “Dance with me, pretty girl.”

She gazed into my eyes, sliding her arms around my neck. “I thought you’d never ask.”
