Chapter 38

VALANCE

I stood at the restored battlements, Brigid’s head floating on a cloud of sliver made by my hand.

I’d decided she was right. I needed her counsel. The other Tuatha were more interested in training, in being the best warriors they could be.

Good. But I required some assistance. Hence her life restored but not her body.

The rolling sea of snow, the purple skies. My home. My realm. I took it all in, my magic slowly spreading to touch every inch, to call it back to life.

“Where should I begin?” I asked my royal counsel.

“The giants in the south, Your Majesty,” she replied. “Their strength will be a great weapon to wield.”

“Then I go south first.”

“Yes. Wander your realm, call the dark fae to your heart.”

There was only one creature I wanted closest to my heart, and he was dead.

Gone forever.

I’m sorry, Kormac.
