“All right, cutie,” began Pruitt as he put his Porsche into park in the on-campus student lot. The sounds of Mystic Hollow University on a busy Friday morning creeped into the vehicle as the werewolf and witch squeezed hands. “I only have one class before we take off today, and I know you have your test just after one o’clock. Do you want to meet me back here when you’re finished?”

“That should work,” answered . “Do you have any interest in checking out the rally on the green after my test? Something about the new university president being announced, I think.”

“You know, after the last organized school event I went to turned into a bloodbath, I’m not exactly rushing to check it out.”

Uriah’s voice interrupted the two. “Did somebody say bloodbath? Am I invited?”

looked at Pruitt with a guilty smile before holding up his smartphone and revealing his ongoing video chat with their vampire third.

Pruitt crossed his arms, feigning jealousy. “Is this so Uriah can give you a good luck kiss before your test, too?”

“No, it’s so I can give play-by-play commentary on yours,” answered Uriah.

“ Obviously ,” teased .

“Obviously,” Pruitt repeated, rolling his eyes.

“But on a real note, I’ll admit I am a little curious about how the new president addresses the untimely passing of his predecessor,” continued. “I mean, I know the news covered by saying Pruitt’s ex-girlfriend snapped and killed everyone, but…”

“And we know TikTok says that she lost it because Pruitt dumped her sorry ass,” added Uriah, clearly waiting to get in that little dig. “Can’t wait for the Netflix documentary on that one.”

“Oh, you know what? I saw something about that this morning when I was scrolling and…” After studying Pruitt’s somber face, voluntarily cut himself off.

Although Uriah was joking, the witch could tell that Pruitt was bothered by such a suggestion. As much as Mystic Hollow’s star jock was working to put it behind him, knew his reputation was still important—and because of his local fame, the rumor mill could be brutal. Never mind the fact that someone he had once been close to was now dead and blamed for something that wasn’t her fault.

“Let’s focus, gentlemen,” Pruitt finally said, clearing his throat. “We have one core objective today.”

Uriah and nodded in unison.

“To fuck each other in an exciting new location,” said Uriah, very sure that’s what Pruitt was about to say next.

Pruitt dropped his hands to his thighs with a slap. “ No. ”

“No?” From ’s cell phone screen, Uriah appeared confused. “Then what about everything we discussed? Particularly, that new technique where we take and ? —”

“ Okay, enough. Maybe that’s part of it,” continued the werewolf. “But our primary mission today is to be ready to leave on time for our?—”

“—first-ever mini-vacation as a couple!” a giddy interrupted, bouncing up and down in his seat with excitement. “Or, uh, throuple? Triad?”

“We’ll workshop the couple name later, little witch,” Uriah calmly replied. “What Pru’s sayin’ is don’t dilly-dally with all your little human classmates and make us late.”

“The reminder isn’t just for ,” Pruitt was quick to interject. “I know you’ve got our favorite undead-professor-turned-roommate to check in on before we skip town.”

“Oh, right,” replied Uriah, almost as though he had forgotten about his new responsibility. “Quinn, the ole bag. I’ll leave him a couple of freshmen to gnaw on while we’re out of town. Got any in mind, pipsqueak?”

“Hey now!” raised his voice.

“Okay, okay. Sophomores then ,” Uriah teased. “It’s always me who gets stuck babysitting.”

“Because, unlike you, these days I make sure n-not to pass on my curse,” Pruitt stuttered.

Wonder what that means, thought to himself, studying Pruitt’s knuckles as they tightly gripped the steering wheel.

“Uh, nothing ,” Pruitt replied before even realizing he was listening in on ’s thoughts again. “Sorry, G. Force of habit.”

Uriah’s voice drowned out the momentary silence that followed. “Thank god that telepathic shit doesn’t work over the phone because you don’t even want to know what I’m thinking.”

“Look, let’s just be ready to leave town before four,” said Pruitt. “Does that sound okay with everyone?”

and Uriah nodded.

“Great, then it’s settled,” replied Pruitt, taking the phone from ’s hand and facing it away from them. “Now, get over here and give your man some loving, G.”

“Hey now!” The two could hear Uriah cursing as they kissed. Two kisses turned to three, four, five, and more.

felt as though he had to pull back or he wouldn’t be able to stop. He could sense Pruitt felt the same. “All right, Mr. Mondamin, we better get going.”

Taking a deep breath, Pruitt nodded and pulled back, turning the car off.

Grabbing back his phone, was not surprised to see Uriah mockingly making out with a pillow.

“ Oh, baby, not before my exam ,” the vampire whimpered in a high-pitched voice, mimicking in between overdramatized kissing noises. “ You bad dog! Quit humping my leg! ”

“You wish,” Pruitt said dryly. “Take it easy, Riah, and call me when you’re ready for me to pick you up.”

“You got it, were-stud,” Uriah said with a wink, still cradling a pillow in his arms.

“Be nice to Quinn, okay? Tell him we say hi. And don’t forget what we talked about. You know, the whole working to get him back to being a non-living, non-breathing member of society again,” said , blowing Uriah a handful of kisses.

Uriah nodded, then pretended to grab hold of several of ’s kisses. “Can’t wait to get more of those in person, little witch.”

blushed before saying goodbye and ending the video call. “Think he and Quinn are getting along all right?” he asked, turning to Pruitt.

“From what we know, Uriah is single-handedly responsible for the entire vampire lineage. Based on how you’ve seen others of his kind behave, he’ll be a great vamp daddy.”

“ Vamp daddy ,” repeated aloud. “I like that.”

“Please,” Pruitt chuckled. “Whatever you do, don’t let him hear that.”
