In the east ballroom, the soft voice of Five Fangs’ lead singer played over a mounted TV that broadcasted a live-look view directly from the great hall. Gaius hummed a quiet tune, wireless headphones in his ears as he carried into the room with ease. His mouth covered with a cloth that was knotted at the back of his head and his wrists wrapped together tightly with thick, itchy rope, the freshman could only take in his surroundings.
Various frat brothers—until now busy preparing the room’s two dozen tables for an audience—all stood frozen, their eyes glued to the TV. By now, the band had joined in and the sound of the instrument accompaniments rattled through the manor.
Unbothered, Gaius moved to the middle of the room. He bent over, his arms careful to keep his cargo from falling, and pushed in the oversized Dark Moon Fraternity seal that was engraved into the center of the marbled ballroom floor. The action triggered two slabs on either end of the coat of arms to pull back, revealing two wooden breaking wheels from underneath the floor. The classical era torture devices had ropes wrapped around them for prisoners. Gaius pulled from his shoulders and placed him on the left wheel. On the right lay an already unconscious Haven.
“Prepare for the ceremony,” Luna snapped as she entered the room, anger in her voice at the sight of so many standing still. “And gather the rest of the fraternity.”
When no one responded, she set her sights on the TV. She, too, seemed entranced—at least momentarily. “Wait, no, no, no! How can it possibly be?” Luna hissed, her arms shaking as she rushed to the screen. Too high for her to reach in full human form, she let out a wolf growl, pulling off her heels just as her human hands ripped away into large wolf claws.
watched from afar, careful to close his eyes whenever Gaius looked his way.
Luna’s feet transformed now, too, and she jumped up with all her power and pulled the television from its mount, throwing it to the floor in great anger. The sound of broken glass and electrical sparks snapped the werewolves in the room out of the compulsion.
“You idiots, ” Luna shouted, falling to the floor as her human characteristics returned. “They’ve brought in a vampire to control us. To hurt us. Gaius, stop the band from playing at once!”
Pulling his headphones out of his ears, Gaius dropped what he was doing.
“Put those earbuds back in and go!” roared Luna. The werewolf obliged, racing out as fast as his legs could carry him.
The witch surveyed the room before channeling the shared psychic bond that connected him with Uriah.
?Ri, great singing, but they’re onto you. I’m tied up in what appears to be the east ballroom. So is Haven. Dr. Dark Moon is here. She’s a confirmed werewolf. I repeat, Jessica Rabbit is a lycan. Stay safe, but please don’t kill if you don’t have to. Someone’s coming for you… and now.?
