“We’ll show the Mystic Hollow wolf who is boss on the field tonight.”

“Fortunately, the Queen of Wolves heals faster than most. You can’t even tell what happened.”

“I think we’re supposed to be ready for the bus to take us to the field by six, but I’m not sure.”

Dark Moon Manor was brimming with conversation and anxious whispers as walked into the great hall. An overwhelming sense of anxiety suffocated him, but he knew he had to do his part to act like everything was normal.

“!” The werewolf was not surprised to see Alo’s smiling face. “You okay? We all thought Pruitt Mondamin or his little vamp friend did something to you.”

Alo sat at a small table in the corner of the room, a book in hand.

“Oh?” paused. “No. No way. I—um, well, to be honest, felt sick to my stomach after everything that happened this morning. I went into town, went for a jog, grabbed a coffee, and just decompressed.”

waited for his best friend to suspect something was off, his entire body tense. “It was wild, man,” replied Alo as he stood up and pulled into a hug. “Glad you are good. Say, have you seen Fen and Magnus by chance? We were wondering the same about them.”

“Oh, those love birds?” feigned a chuckle as he joined Alo at the table. “I know Magnus mentioned he was gonna tell the coach he’d meet up with the team in Mystic Hollow. Something about them having a day date out of town.”

“Sounds about right for them,” Alo nodded. “I’ll let Luna know.”

“Yeah. Speaking of, is she okay?”

Alo shrugged. “Never seen a wolf heal faster.”

“And what about Gaius?”

Alo’s cheery mannerisms vanished as he shook his head no.

“Fucking vampire scum,” cursed, the irony of the statement not lost on him.

“Strix is having us all meet in the back courtyard before we get on the bus to the game. We’re also gonna discuss the welcoming ceremony.”

“Welcoming ceremony?” asked.

Alo smiled. “ You’ll see. ”
