Chapter Nineteen #2
Unless, of course, it suits him, and then he will be nothing but helpful. Having said that, I can’t really see how his most recent help has benefited him in any way. If anything, it’s done the opposite. I know that he’s told us things that he shouldn’t have, so maybe I’m being unfair to him.
Either way, I don’t want to wait for him to appear to find out what happened to Magnus.
“What are you thinking about, Love?” Loki asks me.
I look up from pushing my breakfast around my plate to find him studying me closely, his gaze searching.
“I want to find out what happened to my uncle,” I reply, my voice steady and firm.
He nods and stands up, walking the short distance around the table to my side. He reaches his hand out for me, and I take it readily as he threads our fingers together.
“Come on then, let's go and find out,” he says simply as he starts to walk toward the door.
This man is something else, and every moment like this, I fall a little deeper for him.
Who the fuck am I trying to kid? I’m gone for him, hook, line, and fucking sinker, and he’s not the only one.
They’re mine, and I am unequivocally theirs.
“Where are you guys going?” Storm asks, as he comes out of his room, freshly showered and looking quite frankly fuckable.
“We’re going to find out what happened to Magnus,” Loki replies.
Guilt pierces me. I got so distracted by Storm that I forgot what we were doing for a moment.
“I’ll come,” Mayhem says as he launches himself over the sofa with one hand. He glances up at me hesitantly, “That is, of course, if you want me to?”
I nod and smile, “Of course I do. I don’t mind who comes.”
“In that case, I’m coming too,” Reaper says as he stands up.
Soon it’s clear that they’re all coming with me, and it makes me feel things that I’m not quite sure how to name.
They’re good things. I just can’t name them. I’m not always great at naming the good emotions. The bad ones are easy, but then again, those are the ones that I’m most accustomed to.
“So, what’s the plan?” Kill asks as we head out the door.
I glance back at the creatures to see if they’re coming, but they’re all sprawled out across the sofas and by the fire, and none of them look like they plan on moving any time soon. I think they’re enjoying the moment of peace that being back at the academy has afforded us too.
I look at Kill as we carry on walking, “Erm, I hadn’t actually gotten that far into my thought process.”
“Well, we could ask the new Headmaster for some information about Magnus, but it could fall under one of those things that he doesn’t have time for, especially if he views it as us looking for gossip, and I really don’t want to run laps or do sword practice right now,” Rival replies.
Reaper frowns and shakes his head, “Yeah, let’s not do that.”
“Why don’t we go and check the office down by the gyms?
We might find something in his office if it hasn’t been cleared out already.
We have no idea of the timeline of events since we seem to have messed with the timeline somehow,” Mayhem suggests, although his eyebrows are dipping down into a heavy frown by the end of his sentence.
“I guess it’s as good a place to start as any,” Storm replies.
“If his office has been cleared out, then the person who is now teaching his classes should have some information on what happened to him,” Zev suggests.
I nod, “Sounds good to me. We can start there. You know, I actually had no idea that there were offices near the gyms. I have no idea which one was his.”
“You weren’t technically here for that long before we got pulled into the games,” Loki reminds me, squeezing my hand gently.
“I know which one is his. I’ll show you,” Reaper says, with a gentle smile.
Returning his smile, I reply, “Thank you.”
We head through the halls, picking up the pace now that we have a plan.
The hallways are once again quiet. The few people we do see nod or give a hasty greeting, but no one hangs around to chat.
There is an air of purpose around everyone, and most of them are in workout clothes or combat gear, some heading to the library, so even though it’s Sunday, everyone is still training hard.
It's something that I definitely didn’t see before.
“It’s just through here,” Reaper says as we head down a corridor lined with fancy office doors.
I had no idea that there were so many instructors, but it makes sense.
People have specialities that they teach and also classes based on the supernatural skillset.
Some supernaturals are better with speed, so they need to be trained with that, some shift, others use magic, and a whole host of other things.
It makes sense that there are different instructors for each thing.
“Huh,” I say as we stop outside a door that has Magnus’ name written in gold across it. “Either he died recently, or they just haven’t gotten around to switching the name yet.”
“Let’s find out,” Kill suggests as he knocks on the door.
“Come in,” a very familiar and not dead voice calls out from behind the door.
