Chapter 7 #3

She could see how he would feel that way under the circumstances that he had become a wolf and all the trouble that had occurred since.

They had no peace since he’d come home, but at least he’d had some support from his family.

If he hadn’t, both girls would have already been gone.

It was time to wait and see what the interloper would do.

“Let’s move closer so that we can see what these guys are going to do.” She suggested.

He nodded, and they moved closer to the edge of the woods. They could see the guys as they took turns attempting to get past the ward. Under other circumstances, it might even be funny watching these guys get shocked.

“How does the spell get fed?” Darren asked.

“It pulls energy from the attackers.”

“Isn’t that against the rules?”

“Why would it be? It only pulls energy from attackers that have ill intentions.” Lottie observed.

“It’s alright to use magic and take energy as long as they are bad guys?”

“Or if they are willing. If Harry ran low on energy, I could offer to give her some.”

“I think I understand now.” Darren offered.

“You’ll learn magic a little at a time. Being a wolf is more important to learn quickly.”

The idiots were still over there trying to get into the house.

They picked one of their guys up and threw him, but it wasn't hard enough, and he just bounced back and hit them.

She wondered if they would try pushing against one of their guys to force them through the protective ward, but it didn't seem like these guys had even considered it.

They finally seemed to give up, and they all turned away and got into a truck that she hadn't noticed before.

It was a relief that they drove away, even though she thought she might have been able to handle them with her magic.

Her biggest concern was that Darren would try to be a hero and take on 6 wolves by himself.

She'd been surprised that he had listened to her.

Maybe he didn't have to have everything his way.

That was the impression she'd gotten of him up until now.

Lottie thought she might need to give him a break because he had been through a lot.

Anyone could choose a bad lover, and she'd heard a lot of stories from her friends about things like that.

Those stories might mostly be about females, but they could happen to males, too.

“Can we go finish our run?” Darren asks.

Lottie nodded, and he shifted immediately, and she followed suit.

He took off running as he had last time, and she followed him.

She couldn't deny that she loved the run, and her wolf felt free and happy.

It seemed like a small thing to do to make her wolf so happy, and it was the perfect day for a run.

The sun filtered through the tree's branches, and the weather was perfect, neither hot nor cold.

Her wolf felt invigorated, and her paws hit the slightly moist ground as she ran, following her fated mate.

Even though the relationship might never exist the way it was intended to, she would let her wolf have this run because she might never have more.

Maybe she was a fool to want this, but she could admit to herself that she did.

Darren was such a handsome wolf, and she couldn't deny that she wanted him.

She knew that he wanted her, too, just not in the way that she needed him to want her.

Maybe once she was gone, absence would make his heart grow fonder, and he'd come to find her and admit that he knew she was always intended to be his.

It was just a run, and she was already having crazy thoughts.

He turned and headed back towards her, and she saw that the run was over.

There was nothing tying them together except his two little girls.

She needed to face the fact that while he wanted her, that would never be enough.

Lottie followed him as he headed back to the house.

It was an odd time to have nothing to do because it wasn't quite lunchtime.

She'd not expected to have free time in the middle of the week like this, especially after she'd had a day off that she'd spent with Harry.

They got back into the house, and he headed to his room, and she headed to hers.

She assumed that he would get on his computer, which was what she had planned.

There was always work to be found on the Internet and she did what work she could.

It wasn't that she was poor, but she wasn't well off either.

Maybe she should learn to do the kind of work that Darren did because he always seemed to have plenty of money.

Lottie invested in stocks, but nothing like he did.

She played it safe and had a regular investment taken out of her account, and any income from our stocks was immediately reinvested in the same stock.

It was her plan to start investing in real estate soon, and she had some money saved for that.

She had a financial plan, and as she got older and felt more comfortable, she started investing in things that cost more money and took up more of her time.

That was why real estate was her next step.

Prices had gone up a lot lately in the areas that she was considering, so maybe she had waited a little too long before investing.

Harry and she had discussed the sweat equity thing, where you got some value in the places that you bought by making improvements yourself.

She'd helped her dad with different things around their house, so she felt confident enough to attempt at least the most basic remodeling.

It was her intention to buy a house to live in as soon as this job was done.

Until she knew when the job would be done, there was no point in looking around for anything.

She turned on her computer, went to her To Do List, and began working.

The jobs she planned to do were not the only things on there, because she also had bills and other expenses she paid.

Those things were difficult to keep up with without a list, so she knew what had to be done and what was already done.

Harry had discussed that with her because she had the same problem.

In some ways, she and Harry were very alike because they were both a little absent-minded, and they both had a lot on their minds.

Lottie had even admitted to Harry that one of the things that was on her mind was Darren.

Harry had suggested that she talk to Ariel, but why would Ariel know anything about her and Darren?

It was true that she had heard the white wolf sometimes knew things, but she assumed those were important things, not just the relationships of people she didn't know well.
