EPILOGUE
Ronan
Three months later…
Ronan and Everly sat at a table in the back of the ballroom at the Hawthorne Hotel. People in attendance were laughing, dancing, and hugging, sometimes all three at once. Everly had requested a little break because she’d been all hugged out.
“Here’s a ginger ale for you,” Ten said, setting the drink in front of his daughter.
“Thanks, Dad.” Everly took a sip. “How do you think I did?”
“You did an incredible job, honey!” Ronan laughed.
He looked around the ballroom at the nearly three hundred people who’d come to the inaugural Evermore Gala.
There had been so many donations to the GoFundMe page set up to help reunify families who’d been involved with the St. Agnes House, that Ten and Ronan decided to extend the reach of the funds.
Ten suggested setting up a charity. Everly had jumped at the opportunity to help other kids.
The money raised would be used to supply local food banks with nutritious food, as well as hygiene items like toothbrushes, tooth paste, deodorant and sanitary supplies.
Everly insisted on helping every step of the way.
The gala featured a silent auction including sports memorabilia donated by the Red Sox, Bruins, Celtics, and Patriots. Attendees could also bid on readings with Tennyson and the other West Side Magick psychics, along with other witchy items donated by local shops.
“Look how happy Natalie is dancing with her granddaughter.” Everly pointed to the center of the room where Natalie and Katie were holding hands and swaying to the music. “I love that so many of the lost babies are here tonight.”
Ronan snickered. The babies Everly was talking about were all over fifty years old.
Of the fifty-seven children sold by Doctor Andrew Savini, twenty-one of them had been in contact with their birth mothers.
There had been the inevitable deaths over the years, but some of those lost babies had been able to connect with siblings, nieces, and nephews.
“Everly!” Aurora rushed up to the table. “Come dance, they’re gonna play our song.” She grabbed Everly’s hand and dragged her toward the dance floor.
“What’s their song?” Ronan asked, half-afraid to know the answer.
“Girls Just Wanna Have Fun.” Ten laughed.
“I love that song!” Ronan bounced out of his seat and offered his hand to Tennyson. “Dance with me?”
“Always and forever!”
Ronan hit the dance floor as the song started.
He looked around to find Everly and her friends nearby.
Instead of dancing, they had their arms around each other screaming out the lyrics.
Across the room, he saw Fitzgibbon and Jace laughing with Salem’s mayor.
Jude bounded up to Ronan, bumping shoulders like one of them had just scored a touchdown.
As Ronan strutted his moves, he couldn’t help but think of the horrible crimes that had brought everyone together.
Doctor Andrew Savini had been charged with the first degree murder of Kitty Maxwell, and Jessica Stout, another nurse who was affiliated with the Savini family medical practice.
Ten had met Jessica’s spirit the day Savini had been arrested.
She’d slowly given enough details that allowed the Cold Case Team to locate her remains and charge the doctor with her murder.
Facing two life sentences, Savini took a plea deal, rather than facing two murder trials.
He pled guilty to one count of second degree murder which carried a sentence of twenty-years to life.
Savini was seventy-three years old and the Maxwell family had been satisfied with the fact that he wouldn’t be eligible for parole until he was ninety-three.
Ronan didn’t think the doctor would live to see life outside prison walls.
His health had gone downhill after his arrest and Ronan couldn’t bring himself to care.
Savini had been responsible for murdering two innocent women and ripping children from the arms of their loving mothers for profit.
Savini could burn in hell for all Ronan cared.
For now, Ronan was gonna party hardy and dance like no one was watching.
