Chapter 3 #2
I use their distraction to my advantage and dip under Beckett’s arm and around him to head back down the hall towards the loud music.
My feet make quick work as I stride over to where Riot and Ivy are making out in the same spot I left them.
Just as I reach them and am about to call out our code word, Stone and Raegan make their appearance.
She’s in different clothes and her hair looks like she wrestled a bear.
I sit back down next to Ivy as Stone grabs Raegan, planting her on his lap, taking the chair beside me. After a little bit, Beckett comes storming back into the main area looking around. When his eyes lock with mine, he comes over ignoring the half-naked women trying to stop him.
I watch Sutton escape to the main room and away from us, the file still hot in my hand.
Run, my little angel.
“Did we get some fresh meat?” Hawk asks as he finally tears his eyes from the woman who’s turned my life upside down these last few weeks.
Any free moment I’ve gotten, my thoughts wander back to that night.
The smell of her body and pussy make me ache on the long nights of our protection run.
Every bitch I’ve released in since can’t hold a candle to her, and the more I tried to fuck the memory of her out of my system only proved that I’d been screwing second class women.
Hawk and the two Sweetbutts head back to the bar, and I walk over to my room here at the clubhouse.
I enter the room and hear the loud sound of waves crashing as Martha, my three-year-old son’s sitter, sits in a rocker by his little toddler bed in the corner of the room.
She’s got her eReader open as I make my way over to my desk and turn on the lamp.
Zane is laid out like a starfish on top of his covers with his stuffed frog tucked under his chin. I’ve done a lot of bad shit in my life, but the one thing I’ll never regret is him. On the hard days, he makes it all worth it, even if his mother, Debbie, is a raging, conniving bitch.
My ex-wife did a number on my head, and I finally pulled it out of my ass for my boy and cut ties with the manipulating bitch.
Zane deserves better from me and that meant cutting off his deadbeat mother who only used him as a pawn.
Debbie goes missing for weeks, sometimes months at a time, looking for her next whale she can sink her talons into.
Zane stopped asking about her months ago.
I’m trying my best to give my son everything I didn’t have growing up.
I sit down and open the folder, leaning forward to examine the report.
I skim through the document then read over it more closely the second and third time to make sure I’ve covered everything Hawk was able to find on the mysterious woman.
It turns out that she was telling the truth.
Sutton’s lived here her entire life along with her parents who have the church in middle of the downtown area.
Right before summer of her senior year, her passport showed she left the country for South America and only came back a few weeks ago.
The night we met was when she is recorded to have been scanned through customs at the airport.
There’s no phone number on record, but it shows she just opened up a bank account at the credit union in town.
It also shows that she’s taken a job at the local preschool not far from my house.
Now that I know she’s not here to spy for Debbie who wants to try to take Zane away from me, my mind is made up. The way innocence floats off Sutton, I didn’t think she was part of some scheme, but I’ve been fooled in the past, so I’m always on guard now, especially when it comes to my boy.
Getting up, I tuck the papers in the top drawer of the desk.
I make my way over to Zane, bending down to kiss his little forehead.
The sound of his breathing calms me. Pulling up his blanket at the end of the bed, I tuck it around him and watch out of the corner of my eye at Martha rolling hers.
I know it’s useless, but I worry nonstop about this little guy.
I give her a nod even though she doesn’t lift her head from whatever she’s reading, then make my way to the door.
I need to find out more about the woman who’s consumed me for weeks.
As I turn to leave the room, I watch a small leg shoot out and the blanket kicked to the bottom of the bed.
Closing the door I chuckle to myself. He sleeps just like I do.
Once I get settled back at the table, Sutton avoids looking at me as much as she can. She answers when asked a question, but she’s really reserved the rest of the time.
After Raegan finishes rapping, Stone picks her up, done sharing his woman with all of us. I don’t blame him, I’m ready to do the same with the angel across from me, if she’d allow it. Riot and Ivy are sucking face when Stone says something to Sutton.
“You guys need a ride back home or do y’all want to stay here tonight?” he asks.
“I’ve got ’em,” I call out before anyone can respond, and I watch Sutton stiffen.
“You okay with that, Sutton?” Stone asks her, wanting confirmation, and my hands ball into fists.
“I haven’t had anything to drink tonight; we came in my car.
I’ll be fine,” she says and gives a sweet smile.
I watch as Ivy leans over and whispers something in her ear that makes her cheeks turn a light shade of pink.
Finally satisfied, Stone turns to head down the hall.
What I would give to know what Ivy just said.
Just as I pop up from my seat to fill the chair next to Sutton, Rocky comes over.
“I’m Rocky,” he introduces himself to her and steals the seat next to her.
“Hi, Rocky, I’m Sutton,” she tells him, offering her beautiful smile in greeting.
Rocky is Stone and Blaze’s younger brother who has Down syndrome. He’s a member of Dead Road MC, so we watch out for him. He may not ride with us, but he pulls his weight around here and contributes as much as he can.
Rocky moves right in and pulls Sutton into a surprising hug. She rolls with it after a moment being caught off guard.
“Are you an Ol’ Lady?”
“I’m not old,” she adorably tells him, not understanding our code.
