Chapter 39
Savannah
“H ey, Little Killer .”
Looking up from my book, I smile at Walker. He’s crouched down by the foot of my nest, grinning at me. I’m sure I look silly.
I’m dressed in his sweatpants, one of Jake’s beanies, Caleb’s sweater, and I’ve snatched Leroy’s blue fuzzy socks he’s been hiding from me.
Ha, jokes on him, I’ve already raided every inch of all four of their bedrooms as well as every other room in this house. If I want it, it's mine.
“You look cozy,” he chuckles.
“Mhhm.” I smile, putting the book down and stretching. “I got lost in my book.”
“Best kind of way to get lost.” He winks and I laugh.
“Not like when we lost Caleb on the beach?” I grin.
Okay, so we didn’t lose him, but more like hid from him. It was Walker’s idea. We all hid behind trees, and I felt bad as Caleb looked around like a lost puppy for us.
Didn’t help that some teenagers playing frisbee missed and hit Caleb in the nuts.
Walker had a laughing fit, but I was pissed. Jake had to throw me over his shoulder before I lost my shit on the kid.
Apparently, fighting teenagers on the beach isn’t allowed. I should have asked to see their ID. They’re free game if they’re eighteen.
Walker grins. “Nah, that was fucking gold.”
Rolling my eyes, I sit up. “What's up?”
“I hate to interrupt your nest time, but I have a favor to ask.”
“Okay.” I pull the blanket off me. “What is it? Who do I need to kill? I can see if the warehouse is free. It’s been a while, but I’ve been dying to use my taser.”
“Down, Little Killer, down.” He chuckles. “Not that kind of favor. But if I ever do need one like that, I know who to come to.”
“Ahh, yeah. Who else would you go to?” I glare at him. “Duchess wouldn’t do me dirty like that.”
“Savvy,” he says my name with a low growl.
“Right, sorry, getting off topic. What's the favor?”
“Leroy forgot all about his brother's engagement party today and he’s kind of freaking out. He’s getting ready now. I asked if he wanted us to come, but his family is very judgmental about our pack. I guess a group of guys living together and forming a brotherly bond is too gay if there's no Omega in the mix,” he scoffs. “Hate those people.”
“They sound like people I’d love to stab,” I mutter.
“No stabbing,” he warns. “I mean it, Savvy.”
“I make no promises,” I huff, crossing my arms. “I hope he knows I’m going with him.”
Walker grins. “I thought you’d say that.”
He moves so I can crawl out of my nest. Standing, I strip myself free of their clothes and toss them back in my nest to keep it smelling like them.
“You know, maybe you should stay here,” Walker murmurs, voice low and husky.
“No sex.” I point at him before going over to my dresser to get a change of clothes. “Where's this being held at? Jeans and a shirt or little black dress?”
“Country club.”
Pausing, I look at him over my shoulder. “You're kidding me, right?”
“Sadly, no.” He walks over to me. “His family are those kinds of people, and his brother's idea of a bachelor party is golfing with the guys while the girls hang out inside getting drunk.”
“Lovely, sounds like I’d rather watch paint dry or gouge my eyes out.” I smile, batting my eyes.
“You don’t have to hang out with them,” he chuckles.
“Good, because I don’t think I’d be able to keep that no stabbing promise if I did.” Blowing out a breath, I take a step back and think. “Alright. Country club it is.”
“Y ou really don’t have to come,” Leroy says, looking over at me when we get to the country club.
“And you must have lost your mind too if you think I'm not going to be by your side as your Omega while you deal with these assholes. I still don’t know why you're even going. You clearly don’t like your brother.”
“I love him. I do. He’s not so bad. We just... we don’t get along. He’s an Alpha, so is my dad. My mom is an Omega. I’m the only Beta in my family.”
“What about extended family? Surely you have some Beta cousins or something?”
“I do.” He nods. “But they’re treated a lot like me. They’re not very close with anyone.”
“And how's that?” I growl, knowing I’m not going to like the answer.
“Like we’re lesser than.” He gives me a forced smile. “It is what it is.”
“It’s bullshit, is what it is,” I mutter, throwing my door open and slamming it shut. Marching my way over to his side, I open his door. “Let’s go show these fuckers just how amazing you are.”
Leroy gets out of the car and smiles down at me. “You're amazing, you know that?”
“I do.” I grin. “But please, keep reminding me.”
He chuckles, bending down to kiss my lips.
A shiver runs through me, and I moan. Now is not the time to get horny, Savvy.
Although, riding Leroy on the golf course where his stupid family can see that being a Beta is just as good as being an Alpha, sounds like fun.
“I love you, Little Monster,” he growls against my lips.
“I love you, too, Daddy.” I bite my lip, loving the way his eyes fill with heat.
It’s said in more of a playful teasing tone, but he loves it when I call him that. It’s not going to become an all the time thing, but I could have fun with it during sex for sure.
“Brat.” He nips at my lower lip.
“For you? Always.”
Heading inside the club, Leroy checks us in. I’m going to assume he has a membership if he’s able to do that, and eww, barf.
“Ready?” Leroy asks when he comes back over.
“Yup.” I grin. “Where is everyone?”
“Already playing,” he sighs. “I’m going to get an earful for being late.”
I don’t like that he cares so much about what these people think. He’s second-guessing himself. I won’t have it.
Oddly enough, I don’t seem to stand out. At least not yet. I think I ended up playing the part a little too well when I looked up what kind of outfit to wear.
I’m in a skirt, a button up short sleeve blouse and one of those ugly visor hat things I borrowed from Leroy because I sure as fuck didn’t own one.
My hair is in a high ponytail, my make up is light, and I have on a pair of tennis shoes.
“Ahh. Do you want to wait in here with the other Omegas or...”
“I’m coming with you, Big Guy.” I loop my arm through his.
“Oh thank god.” He blows out a breath. “I hate to say it, but I don’t think I can handle them alone.”
“I got you, baby.” I lean up and press a kiss on his cheek. “Come on, let’s go one-up these rich mother-fuckers.”
He chuckles. “Savvy...” he says as we walk outside.
“Yes.”
“Be you. Don’t hold back. Just... don’t stab anyone, okay?”
“Why does everyone keep telling me that?” I huff.
“Because we know you, Little Monster,” he growls playfully and pinches my butt.
My eyes widen, and he smirks down at me. “Don’t start something you can’t finish... Daddy.” I flutter my eyelashes at him before darting away, loving how he grumbles under his breath.
Oh, I’m in trouble. I pretend to run ahead, grinning widely. He catches up to me and I squeal as he picks me up and spins me around, laughing when he starts to tickle me. “Stop!” I laugh.
“Then don’t give me a hard-on while I’m golfing,” he chastises against my neck as he kisses me, rolling his hips to show me just how hard he is.
“Playing dirty,” I grumble.
“You started it,” he chuckles.
We get into a golf cart and I fucking love it. It’s so much fun. Leroy lets me drive. I think he regrets it about three seconds in, from the way he grips the edge of the cart’s seat.
He shows me where to go, and we end up making it to the group of men.
“About damn time,” a man complains as we get out of the cart. He looks like Leroy, only about ten years younger.
“And you’ve brought a friend,” another man comments snootily. By the looks of it, it’s Leroy’s dad. Dude is fit for someone in his seventies. These men seem to age well. That's good to know.
“Dad, Eli, this is Savannah,” Leroy introduces, wrapping his arm around my shoulder.
“Where did you find her?” Eli chuckles. “You know, you could have just come alone. You didn’t need to rent a Beta for a date.” He winks.
I stiffen, and Leroy leans in. “Remember: no stabbing.”
Ha. That was before I met these asshats. This is either going to be a long day or a short one. Depends on what comes out of their mouths next.
“Very funny.” Leroy brushes his brother off. “Savannah is my Omega.”
His brother, father, and the other men around us look at us with surprise. “Omega? Since when?”
Leroy hesitates before admitting, “About four months now.”
“And you didn’t tell us? What the hell?” Eli looks genuinely hurt. I’ll give him something to be hurt about.
“Because it was new. Adjusting to all the changes on top of having a newborn kept our lives busy.”
“Right,” his father snorts. “I forgot you retired to be a nanny.”
“He’s not a nanny,” I pipe up. “He’s a stay-at-home dad. An amazing one, might I add. Athena is lucky to have him. To have all her fathers.”
“And you’re just okay with the fact they have some other Omega’s baby?” Eli raises a brow.
“She’s my daughter.” I give him a forced smile. “Even if I didn’t give birth to her. Her surrogate was just that, a surrogate. Not her mother. As for the donor, we don’t know who she is. Not that any of that matters.” Am I oversharing? Maybe, but these guys are making me defensive, and I overshare when I get that way.
“I still think it’s weird,” one of the other guys in the group sneers. “A group of men adopting a baby with no woman in their pack? Seems a little gay.”
“Fuck’s sake,” Leroy groans as the guys snicker.
“Sorry to break it to you, buddy, but the only place they stick their dicks is in me.” I smile sweetly. “And she’s not adopted. Did you miss the part about a surrogate?”
“Well, don’t you have a colorful mouth?” Leroy’s father grunts.
“Wanna see just how colorful it can get?” I ask, putting my hands on my hips.
“I bet she gives those Alphas a run for their money in the bedroom,” Eli snorts.
“Alphas?” I look him up and down. “You speak as if Leroy isn’t a part of the pack. He’s just as involved with me as the other men in our pack are.”
“Really?” Eli asks. “But he’s a Beta? Omegas don’t really want Betas. They’re like the best friends of the group, right?”
Is this guy for fucking real right now?
“Not in my pack,” I grind out. “Leroy is my Beta. Mine . Would someone get tattoos of mate marks on their necks if they were only best friends?”
“You don’t have to explain yourself to them, Savannah. They’ve always been like this.” Leroy pulls me into his arms. “It doesn’t matter.”
“It does fucking matter,” I growl.
“Always been like what?” his father asks.
“Like assholes,” I answer for him. “I don’t know what your fucking issues are, but Leroy is an amazing man. He’s hard working, loving, caring, the best partner, plus an amazing dad. He’s the glue that holds our pack together. That's what Betas are. Not the fucking helper, but the only one with a level fucking head to keep shit from blowing up when stupid Alphas and dumb-ass Omegas only think with their dicks or pussies,” I growl. “I don’t see any of you with packs? Why not? Did you get too jealous and possessive? Didn’t learn how to share nicely? I feel bad for your Omegas who are stuck with just your stupid-ass dicks.”
I’m breathing heavily now as I spin toward Leroy, turning away from their gaping, screwed up faces.
“I think I’m going to head back to the club after all. If I stay, I know for a fact I won’t be keeping the promise I made before. But don’t take any of their shit.” I point my finger up at him, and his lip twitches with a smile. “Tell them where to go and how to fucking get there. If not, I’ll gladly do it.”
“Have fun, assholes. Just know this, Leroy is a better man than all of you shrimp dicks wrapped into one. Have a miserable fucking day.”
Leaning up, I grab the back of Leroy’s head and crash my lips to his. I kiss him dirty and possessively until we’re both panting, and bite down on his neck hard enough to leave a mark just because I can. “Mine,” I growl before storming over to the cart and peeling out of there.
I’m amped up, ready for a fight. I want to stab someone so damn bad. It’s taking everything in me not to go back there and kick all of their stupid asses.
No wonder Leroy has nothing to do with his family, they all fucking suck balls.
I pull up to the country club like a bat out of hell. I storm into the building and snatch a drink from one of the trays, getting a surprised look from the waiter when I down it all in one go.
I hate alcohol, but I might need to be at least tipsy to deal with these people.
It’s too nice of a day to be inside, so I wander out onto their deck’s eating area. There’s a lot of old people giving me funny looks but I just smile.
“What can I get you?” a young girl asks, giving me a polite smile. Right away, I know something isn’t right.
She’s pretty. Tall, with long dark hair and tanned skin.
“What's your deal?” I ask, raising a brow.
She blinks at me, but I see the way she swallows. “I’m sorry, I don’t know what you mean.”
I lean forward in my seat and beckon her closer with my finger. “Don’t bullshit me. You and I both know you're nothing like these people, so spill.” I could be wrong, but call it a gut instinct.
“Fine.” She blows out a breath. “I work here to piss off my Alpha.” She grins. “He hates stuffy, rich, old people. He said I couldn’t get a job either. So, I got a job with stuffy, old, rich people.”
A grin spreads across my face. “I fucking love it. Sounds like something I’d do. Althoug,h I like my Alphas, you don’t?”
“Fuck no,” she snorts. “He’s a raging asshole.”
“Need me to kill him?” I whisper, looking her dead in the eye. “I can, just say the word.”
Her eyes widen. “Ahhhh... no,” she laughs. “Thanks, though. If I want him dead, I’ll just do it myself.” She winks. “I low key love it, and I live to piss him off. It makes the sex hotter. Hate sex is the best.”
“Ahhh.” I nod, finding myself wanting to know a lot more about this Omega. “What’s your name?”
“Jessie,” she answers, pointing to her name tag and I cock a brow. “Okay, fine, Nova.”
Holding out my hand, I smile. “Nice to meet you, Nova. I’m Savvy. What is the least sad-tasting food on this menu?”
She laughs. “I think I can hook you up.”
A fter Nova spends her break sitting here, sharing a plate of wings with me, she has to leave to go back to work.
But not before giving me her number.
Sadly, she’s not expected to stay around very long. She’s here for a few months at her pack's vacation house nearby. I still plan on hanging out with her while I can.
Her story is an interesting one. Don’t think I'd be able to meet her Alpha, Nick. I’d most likely stab him with the description she gave of him, but Ian reminds me a lot of Caleb. I could see the two of them getting along.
It’s been long enough, right? I’m sure Leroy is itching to get out of here. And honestly, I want to go home.
Maybe it’s the wings, or the sun beaming down on me, but I feel a little funny.
Making sure to leave Nova a big tip, I head inside the club to use the washroom and cool down a bit.
When I’m done, I dip into the restaurant area to grab a bottle of water to go.
As I’m waiting, I hear Leroy’s name.
“I can’t believe he showed up here,” someone snorts in laughter.
Looking over, I find some blonde chick sitting with a group of girls at the bar.
“Why did Eli even invite him?” The redhead next to her asks.
“I have no idea. They don’t get along. Leroy is the family reject. Not only that, he brought an Omega with him.” She laughs again. “Eli thinks she’s just some hired Omega for the day to try and prove to the family he’s better than what he is.”
“Wow. That's honestly sad,” the redhead says sympathetically. And I want to slap her.
But the blond? Oh, I want to fucking wrap my hands around her stupid throat and choke her.
“It’s pathetic, is what it is. He came up with this bad, unbelievable lie, too. Eli’s been texting me the whole time.” She shows the phone to her friends and they start to giggle.
Breathe, Savvy. Just take deep breaths. In. Out. In. Out.
“Your water.” The bartender hands me the bottle of water.
“Thanks.” I grin, uncap it, take a few mouthfuls before handing it back. “I don’t need this anymore. But do you mind if I borrow these?” I point to the scissors on the bar top.
I don’t give her time to answer and just take them. “Thanks.” I wink.
With scissors in hand, I march over the girl spewing shit from her mouth. Grabbing her ponytail, I yank her head back and start hacking at it. “Hi.” I grin down at her as she starts to scream. “Leroy’s Omega here.” The ponytail falls free, and I lift it in my hand. “But I really should be going. It was lovely to meet you. Bye!”
Turning around on my heel, I book it out of the room as she freaks out behind me; I book it through the doors and over to the golf cart laughing like the crazy bitch I am.
Listen, Leroy said, I couldn’t stab anyone. He didn’t say shit about cutting off their hair.
With a manic laugh, I take off in the golf cart, going way faster than I should.
My heart is beating like a drum, a grin stretching across my face at the pure fucking joy I’m feeling right now. God, that was good.
Bitch deserved it. Talk shit about my men and see what happens.
I really wanted to fucking stab her with the sissors though. See, I can be a good girl!
“Leroy!” I shout when I see him.
He looks up, his eyes wide. I stop with a jolt. “Get in!” I laugh, bouncing in my seat.
He doesn’t ask questions; he just drops his golf clubs and hops in. “What's going on?”
“Time to go, baby.” I kiss him hard. “Oh, Eli. Congrats on marrying that complete bitch. I wish you all the years of misery. Here.” I toss him her ponytail before saying, “I think this belongs to her.”
Slamming my foot down on the gas, we speed away.
“Savvy, was that really her hair?” Leroy asks, gripping the cart for dear life.
“Hell yeah, it was,” I cackle.
“Do I wanna know?” he laughs.
“Let’s just say she said some nasty shit about my men and that doesn’t fly with me.” I look over at him. “Are you mad?”
“Mad?” he snorts. “Hell no. I was ready to beat them with my golf club. Your timing is impeccable. I never want to come back here again.”
“Good. Because this place sucks. Oh shit!” I shout as I yank the cart to the side, nearly avoiding crashing into people.
“Please get us back to the car alive,” Leroy growls.
“Why?” I laugh, yanking us to the other side. “Don’t you know by now, I’m like a phoenix, baby. Car crashes can’t kill me.”
“Because,” he growls as we make it to the parking lot. “We still need to be alive for all the dirty things I want to do to you when I get you alone.”
“Oh.” I blink up at him, heart pounding wildly in my chest.
“Do you know how fucking sexy it was when you stood up for me? I’ve been golfing with a hard-on for the past hour.”
“My bad.” I grin. “But I meant every word.”
“I know you did, baby.” His voice lowers as he says, “Thank you.”
Shouting has both of us looking behind us. “Oh shit.” We’re out of the cart and racing down the parking lot to our car.
Once we’re in, Leroy starts it up and gets us out of there.
When we’re out on the main road, we look at each other and burst out laughing.
Turns out this day wasn’t a waste of time after all.
