Chapter 22

“Her dad?” I question again. I want to make sure I heard him correctly.

Christ! I’d just spoken to Roger Walker not that long ago and told him to get the next flight out here as soon as possible. I’ve made Raegan an easy grab. I’d more than believe that douchebag Dennis would be the one over her own flesh and blood.

“Yeah, he’s a sick fucker. He’s got a real thing for her,” Brock elaborates.

What the fuck?

“Why would Roger Walker want you to bring his daughter here?” Havoc pipes up from behind Brock. “All he has to do is call and she’d meet with him.”

“Roger?” Brock gives a confused look. “I don’t know a Roger.”

“Then who the fuck are you talking about?” Havoc booms, coming around from behind and punching him in the face.

“Den…Dennis… the mayor. He…wanted us to grab her. He’s got some plan for her to get something from you.”

That motherfucker! Now it’s all starting to make sense. I always hated that piece of shit and should’ve taken him out years ago when he was trying to turn the entire town against us.

Our time is running out before this place is flooded with cops, the last thing we need is to be caught here with a lot full of dead bodies.

So we need to wrap this up and get back to Raegan.

I know we’ve got a few prospects guarding her, but I’m the one that needs to protect her.

Havoc must catch my internal thoughts because he pulls out his gun and aims it at Brock.

“Wait, wait! I thought you said if I talked then you wouldn’t kill me,” Brock squeaks like a rubber ducky.

“I said I wouldn’t kill you. I never said that you were walking out of here alive.”

We start to bag up the contents from the table when a pleading Brock starts yelling his head off.

A single gunshot ends the noise. Making sure we have all our things, Blaze lights a match and tosses it against the wall as flames start to engulf the room.

We start to venture out of the graveyard that was once called the home of Viper MC.

After making sure nothing can be traced back to us, Blaze and Dash cover the outside of the clubhouse in gasoline along with some of the salvage yard and ignite it into a fiery bonfire.

We wait for them to get across the fence safely before we load up in the vans and head back the hour to our clubhouse.

I need to get cleaned up, dispose of our clothes and weapons, then go and see how my woman is doing.

She should be out of surgery by now, but I haven’t received any word from Dad or Melissa yet.

* * *

My feet are on autopilot as I trace my path through the halls the same way as I did before Raegan went into surgery.

There’s a lot of activity happening in this section of the hospital tonight, and no one stays still long enough to answers any of my questions.

Finally, a young nurse with a clipboard stops and tells me that Raegan should be in recovery by now and is on the third floor.

Some of my brothers stayed back at the clubhouse to help watch over Reaper and Twitch, but a handful came with Havoc and me to check on Raegan. As soon as we stepped off the elevator and onto the third floor, I see both of our prospects standing outside of a room towards the end of the hall.

I give a tight nod as I brush passed them and open the door.

The light is dim in the room, Sutton is in a chair with a large blanket draped around her shoulders with Rocky right beside her.

Melissa and Dad are on the other side of the bed.

The farther I walk in, I notice the breathing tube missing from Raegan’s mouth, and she has a little more color in her cheeks.

The thud of my boots against the floor causes Dad to whip around as fast as lighting with a handgun pointing straight at me.

My hands automatically raise, and I see a sigh of relief cross his face.

“Oh, thank god!” Melissa sighs getting up from her chair and rushing over to hug me. “We’ve been so worried about you boys.” She leaves me to hug Havoc and then Riot.

“We’re good, Melissa,” I say not taking my eyes off my little wildcat. “How’s she doing? Everything work out okay?”

“Ian was able to remove the bullet from her stomach cavity and repair a slight tear in the abdomen wall. He patched up the other two bullet wounds, thankful that the bullets didn’t hit anything major.

She’ll be in a sling for a while and will need help getting up and down until her stomach muscles heal, but she should make a full recovery.

She lost a lot of blood, but once they replenished the loss, her levels have been improving. ”

I feel the weight on my shoulders lift and let out a breath I was holding.

“Has she woken up yet? Do we know how her head is?” I ask, seeing the bandage at her hairline.

“There isn’t any swelling. We’re hoping that it’s a concussion, but until she wakes, we won’t know,” she answers. “All her scans have come back normal, so it’s just a matter of when she wants to open her eyes at this point.”

Havoc is squatting down next to Sutton, and I can see she is barely keeping her eyes open. I’m sure today has taken a major toll on her and rest is what’s best for her right now.

“Sutton, why don’t you go home and get some sleep. Raegan won’t wake for a bit and you need rest,” Melissa says in her motherly tone. “We’re lucky the hospital is swamped tonight or your nurse and doctor would be raising hell that you’re not home already.”

She reluctantly nods and then kisses Raegan’s hand before leaning back in the chair.

Looking over at Dad and Melissa I say, “Why don’t y’all head out too? You’ve been here a while. I’ve got it for now.”

“You sure, son? We can stay with you for a while, if you want.”

“Raegan will want to see me,” Rocky speaks up, and it makes my heart hiccup with how much my family loves my woman. “We’re best friends and Sutton too.”

“I know, Bub, but they won’t let everyone stay the night. Get some rest and Melissa can bring you back first thing in the morning. Or maybe Sutton can swing by and bring you,” I tell him.

“I’d love to and maybe we can bring Raegan’s favorite breakfast to her,” Sutton offers pulling him up from the chair.

“Yeah, okay,” he agrees, and I give everyone a hug as they leave then fall into the chair Melissa was occupying so that I can see when someone comes in the room.

“You sure you don’t want one of us staying with you?” Dad asks as Havoc and Melissa hang back.

“Nah, I got it from here.” I reach over to where Dad has his hand covering Raegan’s. “Thank you for coming and staying with her. I knew she was in good hands when I left.”

His face softens and no other words pass between us, just a nod.

Melissa walks over and hugs me one last time.

She lets me know the quick work she did for Twitch and Reaper in one of the offices here before sending them back to the clubhouse before she helps wheel Dad out of the room with Havoc following behind them.

I hear the click of the door and really give my woman a good assessment.

Her hand is a lot warmer, and she has some pink on her cheeks.

I watch as her eyes move back and forth under her eyelids.

Her perfect lips are pressed together, but look a little dry.

“Oh, babe, please forgive me for this. I never wanted this to happen to you. I will move heaven and earth to make sure nothing like this ever happens again.” And I mean it too.

Never do I want any harm to ever touch her in any way, shape, or form.

“I hope this hasn’t scared you away from me.

The club can be a lot to handle sometimes, but never has anything like this happened before under my watch.

If I could, I would crawl over broken glass to make all your pain go away.

” I kiss her hand over and over again hoping she can feel and hear the sincerity in my words. “I know this is all my fault, but…”

“Who the fuck are you? Get out of my way!” I hear a booming voice from over my shoulder and stand quickly on high alert as the door hits the wall with a bang. I see one of the prospects sprawled out on the hallway floor as people scatter from the activity.

A man storms in about my height, with dark brown hair, and glaring daggers through the slits in his eyes. He’s looking at me from head to toe and taking in my appearance, sizing me up. The man stalks into the room, but I put myself between him and Raegan.

“You did this! You put her here in that bed?” He steps closer, and I’m tempted to pull my Glock out, but think better of it for now.

“Who the fuck do you think you are coming in here?” I rage, ready for battle even though I’m tired as hell.

Where the fuck is the other prospects? I’ve met my quota of killing for the evening but a few more won’t hurt if it keeps Raegan safe.

The man steps closer to the bed, and I take a step towards him to stop his movement. He isn’t getting any closer to her bed.

“Who the fuck am I? I’m her fucking Dad, you asshole. Who the fuck are you?”

The noise must get some attention because the door reopens and the two prospects and a blonde woman walk in watching our standoff.

Shit! The Dad. This isn’t how I was hoping to meet him. Fuck! Did he hear everything that I said to her?

I place my hands up in surrender and take a step back from him to stand next to Raegan’s hand I was holding earlier.

Nodding at the prospects, they leave without a word.

The little blonde lady goes over to the other side of the bed and looks at my woman with tears in her eyes.

Mr. Walker still hasn’t taken his threatening eyes off of me.

My throat is dry as the Sahara when I try clearing it. I force slow deep breathes to calm my heartrate.

“Mr. Walker, sir, I’m Kane Stonewall, Raegan’s boyfriend.” I put my hand out in a polite gesture. How else am I going to reverse the damage that is already done? “We spoke on the phone earlier.”
