Chapter 34

Chapter Thirty-Four

Liana

“Fuck, fuck. The timer is down to thirty seconds. Fine, fine, I’ll talk,” the man screams through the plastic.

I don’t want to watch but I can’t look away either. I know exactly what’s stained that plastic and for some reason, I’m still standing here, rooted to this spot, waiting to see exactly what will happen.

“It was because of your uncle. He owes my VP. I don’t know what the deal was. I was just doing what I was told. Fuck, please. It says ten seconds. Turn it off. What’s going to happen?”

Rio’s sister raises her eyebrow and he nods at her. She pulls something from her pocket and I can hear the man sigh with relief when she presses pause.

“Why would my uncle owe your VP anything?” Rio asks, curiously. “I don’t get involved in his side of the business so why the fuck would the Rebels VP come after my wife?”

“Your wife’s family,” the man chokes out. “They have ties to the underground. Someone fucked over my VP. Something about a girl. That’s it, that’s all I know. I swear. Please just let me go.”

I cringe.

‘What have my cousins been involved in?’ I think to myself.

“You don’t want to stay with me?” Nicci asks through the plastic in a mocking sad voice.

“Fuck, please,” the man begs.

Rio’s sister looks at him and he nods before she presses the button in her hand. The man screams in agony before it’s cut off by a small explosion. I gasp and grab Rio’s hand as blood and guts splatter the inside of the plastic.

“I would say it’s a shame I couldn’t keep him here longer but his dick wouldn’t stay hard anyway. What a waste, too.”

Nicci shrugs her shoulders before turning the music back on. Then proceeds to rap along to the rest of the song we paused from earlier.

“I think I want to go home now,” I say and look up at Rio. “I’ve seen enough blood for a while.”

He just laughs before dragging me back upstairs.
