Chapter 13
Miles
Kai rubbed a thumb over his bottom lip as he read over the papers I’d shoved in front of him. It was the first time I’d shared my thoughts with him, having spent the last few days deep in the dark web collating the information I needed.
I wish I could say it had been a good distraction from the woman who consumed my thoughts, but seeing as this involved her, it pushed her front and center of my mind.
“You’re right. It’s suss as fuck,” Kai said, laying the papers on his desk. I hummed my agreement, his sentiments echoing my own when I’d discovered Georgio had met with Alejandro Perez in the few days before mine and Sofia’s wedding.
It had been months since the cartel made their threat against Sofia, yet nothing had happened. Well, there was the attempt by Adrian Powell, but I wasn’t convinced he was working for the cartel. Ash was still digging, but he hadn’t found any links as of yet.
Which led me to think that Georgio had negotiated a deal with the cartel to end their feud, and something in the pit of my stomach told me that whatever deal he had made wasn’t a good one.
“There’s no way the cartel would have rescinded their threat against Sofia if Bianchi hadn’t offered them something worth their while,” Kai continued, agreeing with my assessment. “Interesting that he’s had three meetings with the Herrera 2IC without Rafe present. What’s he hiding from Junior?”
“Your guess is as good as mine.”
Kai stroked a hand down his tie, a trait he’d picked up from his asshole father. “Maybe we should have a word with young Raphael. Find out if he knows what daddy is up to.”
I smirked. Kai had hated Rafe from the minute Riley turned to him after learning of Kai's deceit. She hadn’t helped the situation in the days that followed by blatantly flirting with Rafe to rattle Kai.
But the feeling was mutual. Rafe hated Kai, and the only reason the two of them hadn’t tried to kill the other was because of the fucking agreement between us and the Bianchis.
An agreement I was pretty certain Georgio had every intention of breaking at the first opportunity, especially if he had made a truce with the cartel.
“I couldn’t agree more with you,” I replied, meeting Kai’s calculating eyes.
I didn’t hate Rafe, but I didn’t like him either, so I wasn’t going to miss out on the opportunity to interrogate the little shit.
“Kai!” a familiar voice sang from outside the office.
A frown creased my brow. The only reason I’d met Kai at his place was because I knew Riley had gone out with Sofia for the day, and we could talk freely.
It looked as though the shopping trip had been cut short.
I grabbed the papers off his desk and folded them before shoving them in my jacket pocket.
Riley didn’t know about the shit with the cartel, and we planned on keeping it that way.
“In here, Star,” Kai called, giving me his ‘not a word’ look.
My lips pursed as the door opened and Riley poked her head around. Seeing that it was me with Kai and she wasn’t disturbing a meeting, she strolled in, giving me a conspiratorial smile that instantly had my instincts on alert.
“Hey, Miles,” she crooned, allowing Kai to pull her into his lap, his arms sliding around her waist as he buried his head in the crook of her neck and inhaled.
A pang of envy speared me. The two of them couldn’t keep their hands off each other, and until recently, it was something I’d never been bothered about. It seemed that was another thing in my life that had changed.
“How was shopping, baby?” Kai asked, kissing her nose.
“It was fun,” she replied with her attention on me, her eyes twinkling with mischief. “Sofe and I have decided to have a girls’ night out, you don’t mind if we grab a booth at Sapphire, do you?”
“You’re not going out,” I snapped at the same time Kai said, “Of course not.”
Riley snorted, narrowing her gaze on me. “You’re not the boss of me, Milo.”
Kai chuckled as a growl rumbled in my throat at her use of a nickname I fucking despised. “Fine. Sofia isn’t going out.”
“You’re not the boss of her either,” she retorted, leaning forward to rest an elbow on the desk, a taunting grin playing on her lips. “Maybe if you hadn’t ignored your wife for the past few days, she wouldn’t want to find company elsewhere.”
My scowl deepened as my blood began to boil. She was pressing my buttons, and she damn well knew it. “Riley, I swear to god-”
“Threaten my wife, and I’ll cut your tongue out,” Kai barked, his mocking grin turning serious.
Un-fucking-believable.
I rolled my eyes at the two of them. “I didn’t save your ass from dying just so you pair could conspire against me,” I growled, standing.
The assholes chuckled.
“Hey, you guys should come.” Riley's smirk widened. “Sofia bought this gorgeous outfit. She looks hot as fuck in it…”
I didn’t hear the rest of what she said, partly because of the steam billowing from my ears, partly because I’d stormed out of the office, intent on going home and having a word with my wife.
She wasn’t fucking going to a nightclub, and she certainly wasn’t going out wearing something that made her look ‘hot as fuck.’
Fury flowed through my veins as I floored it on the short drive to my new home. The car had barely come to a stop before I was out and rushing to the front door, intent on calling Sofia’s name, when I came to an abrupt stop.
The sweetest sound I’d ever heard in my life filtered down from upstairs. The rage simmering under my skin cooled in an instant, replaced by a wave of calm that filled me whenever I heard her sing, and extinguishing the chaotic noise in my head.
She hadn’t sung since moving in, nor had she played the piano I’d spent a fortune on, hoping it would keep her occupied.
The reason I knew that? I may have installed cameras throughout the house to keep an eye on her.
Including her bedroom. It was how I knew when she’d gone to bed, and the coast was clear for me to come home.
Without conscious thought, my feet moved on their own, lured by the siren’s call. The song she was belting out was different from the songs she’d sung in the club; those had been melancholy tunes filled with sorrow, reflecting how she was feeling.
This one was upbeat, filled with excitement, and that only added to the jealousy that had been swirling in me from the minute Riley had implied Sofia was going to the club seeking company from others.
Like fucking hell I was going to let that happen.
Her door was ajar, and I peered through the gap, finding the room empty. Her powerful voice carried from the ensuite, despite the closed door. I slowly prowled toward the bathroom, unable to stop myself from going further, and my cock twitching at the thought that she was in there, naked.
Stopping at the door, I pressed my ear against it, my pulse racing as I tried to ignore every part of me that demanded I open it. I resisted, right until her song was cut off, followed by a gasp.
And not a gasp of pain.
Far from it.
The temptation to open the door hit me like a wrecking ball, and before I could think twice, I gave in to the urge and gently opened the door, telling myself that I would take a quick peek. That was all. A quick peek, and then I’d get the fuck away and leave her to her shower.
Through the steamed-up mirror, my eyes landed on her sumptuous body, and I knew in a heartbeat that a quick peek wasn’t enough. I could have stared at her from now until eternity, and it still wouldn’t have been enough.
Blood rushed south as I let my gaze roam over her body, my mouth salivating with the sudden need to lap up every drop of water sliding over her skin.
Her eyes were closed, her teeth biting her lower lip as she held the shower head between her legs, and my jealousy spiked once more, this time at the fucking inanimate object that was giving her pleasure.
When her hand trailed over her taut stomach and up to her nipple, where she squeezed the erect bud, I almost lost all control, not helped by the soft moan of pleasure she released.
Fuck me.
A chemical war could have kicked off behind me, and I still wouldn’t have been able to look away. I shifted my feet in a bid to ease the building pressure in my cock, but my heart froze in my chest when her eyes shot open and landed on me.
I should have walked away. Should have apologized for intruding on her privacy and gotten the fuck out of the house.
I did neither.
Instead, I held her gaze, waiting for her next move. Her beautiful blue eyes glowed with desire, as a light blush crept over her cheeks.
She didn’t look away, nor did she call me a pervert and demand that I leave. No, she held my heated gaze as she sucked her bottom lip back between her teeth and began moving the shower head again, letting the powerful stream beat against her clit.
Pre-cum leaked from my cock, dampening my boxers, and my hand twitched with the need to shove it into my pants, grip my cock, and fuck my hand while I watched her get herself off.
A growl rumbled deep in my throat as she moaned, her pleading eyes firmly fixed on me. Pleading for release? Pleading for me to take over and make her come? Whatever she was asking for, I refused to acknowledge it.
There’d be no going back if I did.
“Oh, fuck,” she whispered, her free hand snapping out to hold against the wall.
Needing more than ever to ease the ache in my balls, I cupped my cock and squeezed it over my pants. It didn’t help the pressure, though; the only thing that would help would be to bury myself deep in her cunt, and fill her up with my come.
At the thought of what it would be like to feel her pussy clench around my shaft, an involuntary groan escaped, the base of my spine tingling as my cock threatened to erupt.
Her legs parted slightly wider as she adjusted the stream. When her abdomen tensed, and her arms began to shake, she finally tore her gaze away from me, throwing her head back.
But it was the name she called out that pushed me over the edge.
“Miles!” she gasped, as her climax hit her.
Against my hand, my own orgasm hit like a bolt of lightning, soaking my boxers with sticky come, and almost making my legs collapse with its intensity.
I gripped the doorframe to stop myself from crumbling to a heap on the floor, watching as her head fell forward, and her shoulders heaved as she panted.
But like a bucket of ice-cold water had been tipped over me, dousing the fire burning its way through my veins, Theo’s face flashed before my eyes. Guilt swamped me, and the moment of pleasure I’d just experienced disappeared under the weight of regret.
When Sofia’s eyes met mine again in the mirror, betrayal cut so deep that it felt like a knife had sliced my entire body in two.
Snarling, I turned away, doing what I should have done the minute I realized what she was up to.
I got the fuck out of there.
