Chapter Five
King
TONIGHT IS MY date with Brynn.
I’m honestly excited about something for the first time in a very long time.
While I’ve been thinking of her and planning this date, I’ve also been thinking about the girl on the sport bike I saw.
It’s confusing as hell because there’s something about both women that are drawing me to them and one of them I haven’t even seen.
I know she can handle a bike and outrun someone trying to catch up to her.
That’s not a lot to go on at all.
I might have been searching through the city’s cameras to catch another glimpse of her but so far I’m missing something.
Not every part of the city has cameras and there’s a lot of side streets she can travel down to avoid any and all of the cameras placed around the city.
She must know where they are—it’s the only reason I wouldn’t have caught any sign of her up to this point.
After showering and getting dressed in my standard pair of jeans, I add a button-down shirt in black that I leave untucked and my boots.
I take good care of my clothes so there’s no scuff marks or anything on my boots.
They still look brand-new if I’m being honest.
Making sure I have everything I’ll need, I grab my phone and slide it in my pocket before sliding my cut on and leaving my room.
I make sure my door’s locked so no one can get inside and head downstairs to the common room that’s full of members and ol’ ladies with the kids who are old enough running around.
Shaking my head, I know they’re all here because Jinx let it out that I have a date tonight.
“King, do we need to go over the talk before you leave tonight?”
Vault asks, sitting up straighter in his seat as I hit the bottom step.
“Don’t get this girl pregnant tonight.
Make sure you wrap it up and take your time.
No one wants a two pump chump.”
Everyone starts laughing their asses off while I shake my head at them.
I have no words for my President at all.
“King, ya know we love ya.
Enjoy your date and I want all the details when you get back,”
Hope says, walking over and fixing the collar of my shirt before looking at me to make sure I look okay.
“This girl is lucky as fuck to go on a date with you.
Where are you taking her?”
“I’m not sayin’ a word.
I can imagine more than a few of you assholes showin’ up if I let it out where I’m goin’.
None of you are gonna ambush us wherever we end up,”
I state loud enough for everyone to hear.
“Jinx, if I see any of your vehicles followin’ me, I’ll make sure my cousin doesn’t have any more children.”
“You like this girl,”
Jinx says, his eyes widening with the shock of his realization.
“We’ll leave you alone, King.
Have fun and just be yourself.
You’ve had dates before.
It’s been a very long time, but I have faith that you’ll have a great night tonight.
Don’t let anyone else get in your head.”
“Yeah.
We’re just messin’ with you, King,”
Valor adds, looking around the room with his serious look because he can see that I’m ready to lose my shit.
“Anyone shows up where King and his date are tonight and you’ll be on clean-up for the next year.
Leave him alone.”
“We got you, King.
Proud of you for takin’ this step,”
Vault says, completely serious this time as he looks at me.
“It’s taken a lot for you to get here and I know you hate askin’ for help or us seein’ you at your lowest.
We’re all here for you and just want you to have a good time tonight.”
“Thanks,”
I mutter, letting Hope finish messing with me before I hug her close for a minute and then let her go so I can leave.
Walking out of the clubhouse, I head for my truck.
I hate driving this damn thing, but I don’t know if Brynn would be comfortable on the back of my bike.
So, I’ve decided the truck is the way to go tonight.
Plus, it helps put part of my plan for our date in place with the supplies I have loaded up in the backseat.
Brynn’s meeting me at the diner tonight.
She didn’t want me to have her home address even though I can just look it up based on her phone number I got.
I’m respecting her wishes and know she needs to feel secure as a woman going on her first date with someone she doesn’t know.
I like that she’s taking precautions with her safety and I will not do anything to make her feel as if I’m pushing her into something she doesn’t want to do.
Driving through town, I don’t pay attention as my excitement about tonight turns to nerves.
This is the first date I’ve been on since high school.
Even those were more of something to do on a weekend and because it was expected of me versus anything I truly wanted to do.
I would’ve rather been back at home with my dad learning more on the computer.
The girls in high school were only out to date the most popular guys in school and didn’t give a fuck if that was me or someone else playing sports.
It got old really quick and I learned that I wasn’t interested in dating.
The same can’t be said about tonight.
I’m looking forward to getting to know Brynn and talking about anything she wants to.
I think that’s why I’m so damn nervous because I want this date to lead to another one.
This stopped being about the bet with Jinx the second I laid eyes on Brynn that first day.
Yes, I was still telling myself that’s what it was about, but deep down I know it’s more than that.
This is a girl I want to spend time with and get to know.
Especially when it comes to the books she’s always reading.
You can tell a lot by the books someone reads.
At least that’s what my mom tells me all the time.
Pulling into the parking lot of the diner, I park my truck right up front of the building and shut the engine off before stepping out and watching as Brynn gets out of a black Hellcat .
Holy shit! I love this fucking car as I start inspecting it up close while Brynn watches me.
“I take it you like my car?”
she asks, a smile on her face when I finally turn my attention to her.
“I’m sorry.
Yes, I love your car,”
I answer, looking her up and down.
“You look beautiful, Brynn.”
“Thank you,”
she responds, her cheeks heating with a blush making her freckles stand out more than usual.
“You look really good, Kingston.”
“Shall we go in and get our dinner?”
I ask, holding out my arm for her to take as I step up next to her.
Brynn has her long, red, curly hair left down tonight.
It’s so long it almost goes to her full ass I want to smack and watch turn pink with my mark.
There’s no make-up on her face to hide her freckles from me either.
She’s wearing a pair of jeans that mold to her body and a crop top exposing her pierced belly button with a flannel over it to make her shirt more modest.
I have a feeling this isn’t usually how Brynn dresses and she shouldn’t have worn a shirt that she’s not comfortable in.
Still, she looks amazing and I can’t wait to hang out with her.
“Are we eating here?”
Brynn asks me as I open the door for her and follow through to the main floor of the place.
“No.
I placed an order for us to take with us.
Shit! I hope you don’t mind burgers and fries.
Do you want me to order somethin’ else for you?”
I ask her, realizing how dumb I am for ordering her food in advance not knowing what she likes to eat.
“I love burgers and fries.
You did good, Kingston.
Don’t worry so much.
I’m not a picky eater and there’s nothing I’m allergic to.
I’m also not that girl who doesn’t eat.
Especially when she’s on a date or in front of other people.
Clearly, I like my food,”
she states with a smile on her face as she gestures down her body.
“Like I said, you look beautiful and that’s all I’m gonna say so I don’t get myself in trouble or make you uncomfortable,”
I respond, giving the waitress at the counter my name for our takeout order.
After paying for our food, I lead Brynn back outside and to my truck.
Helping her in the passenger seat, I hand her the bags of food to place in the middle of us before making my way back around to the driver’s side so I can get in.
Starting the truck, I make sure Brynn has her seatbelt on before backing out and heading for the lookout point on the outskirts of town.
I’m hoping this is going to be okay for her.
I could’ve made reservations at one of the fancy restaurants in town, but she doesn’t strike me as the kind of girl who would eat that pretentious food that leaves you hungry with how small the portions are.
So, I thought us hanging out at lookout point where we can eat under the stars would be a better place to have our first date.
W hen we got to lookout point, Brynn’s eyes lit up like a kid at Christmas.
Together we laid out the blankets in the backseat in the bed of my truck and set up the pillows so we’d be comfortable.
I made sure we’d have a ton of thick blankets to sit or lay on without the pain of the metal of the bed digging into our bodies plus extra blankets to cover up with if it gets to be too cold out.
I don’t want to sit in the cab of the truck when it’s such a clear night out and the stars are shining bright.
Brynn and I talked the entire time we were getting everything ready.
Once the bed was set up, we grabbed the food and cooler with drinks I packed earlier.
Sitting next to one another, we ate our food and talked about our day and what we’d been up to since we last saw one another.
It was easy and comfortable.
“Tell me somethin’ about yourself?”
I asked Brynn as we lay in the back of my truck and stare up at the sky.
“What do you wanna know?”
she asks me, turning her head to the side so she can look at me.
“Anythin’ you wanna tell me, Kitten.
I want to know about you,”
I tell her, looking at her and thinking how fucking beautiful she is with the moonlight shining down on her and making her skin glow.
“Well, I didn’t grow up in Pine View.
I’m from a small town where my family rule and what they say goes for the most part.
I’m the youngest of three children, too,”
she says, giving me something but not enough for me to really learn anything about her.
“How does your family rule a town? I mean, I know why my family runs the town of Benton Falls, but I’m wonderin’ if your family runs your hometown for the same reason,”
I push a little bit trying to get the slightest bit of information about Brynn.
“It’s the same reason.
My dad is a member of King's Vengeance MC,”
she says, closing her eyes and turning her head away from me.
“We haven’t really interacted with them, but I do know they showed up for the ride my family put on when I was in a really bad accident,”
I say, thinking back to all the clubs who showed up to help my family raise money to cover my medical bills and everything I’d need after I finally got out of the hospital.
“You’re him.
Kingston Stevens,”
she says, opening her eyes wide and turning to face me once again.
“I am.”
“My dad and uncle are huge fans of yours.
There was no way in hell they weren’t gonna go on that ride to help you and your family out in your time of need.
How are you doing now?”
she asks me, letting her eyes roam over me from the top of my head down to my toes and back up again.
“I have my bad days and good days.
Especially when I have physical therapy.
Those days my cousin and her husband who is my best friend help me because I can hardly walk and I’m stuck in my bed for two days afterwards,”
I answer her honestly because I’m not going to hold anything back from Brynn.
“I’m so sorry, Kingston.
If there’s ever anything I can do to help, just let me know,”
she says, her voice almost a whisper as I watch the tears fill her eyes.
“We all heard how bad things were after the crash and that you almost didn’t survive it.
I’m glad you did and your family didn’t have to lose you.”
“Thank you, Kitten.
That means a lot to me.
Why did you tell me no when I first asked you out?”
I question her, needing to get the conversation on a different path.
“I don’t date bikers.
Not for any reason.
My dad and grandpa wanted me to get with one of the Prospects for the club.
It wasn’t a good time and even now I try to remain away from the Prospect,”
she tells me, fear flashing in her eyes for the briefest second before disappearing.
“He givin’ you a hard time, Kitten?”
I ask her, every protective instinct rushing to the surface as I keep my eyes locked on her.
“I don’t think so.
When things happened, my dad, uncle, and grandpa kicked him out of the club and he got even more pissed off.
That was the last time I ever saw him.
Every now and then I feel as if I’m being watched, but I can’t prove anything,”
she informs me showing that same flash of fear before masking her face once again.
“You ever find out it’s more than just a feelin’, you call me, Kitten.
Not gonna let anythin’ happen to you.
I want to get to know you and see where this shit between us goes.
Never felt the way I do when I’m near you,”
I give her my piece of honesty as we continue to look at one another.
“I do too, Kingston,”
she admits, her voice barely above a whisper as I lean forward slowly and press my lips against hers.
Brynn places her hands on my chest and holds them there.
She deepens the kiss and I don’t hesitate to open my mouth as her tongue slides in and tangles with mine.
Brynn tastes sweet from the soda she had earlier.
It doesn’t take long before Brynn’s moaning into my mouth and I swallow down her sounds as I place a hand on either side of her neck and change the angle of her head so I can deepen the kiss even more.
I could spend hours kissing this woman and be content for the rest of my life.
We spend the rest of the night talking while she’s wrapped around my body.
A slow song came on that my girl started singing and I couldn’t help but get up and dance with her under the stars as the moon gave us the only light.
Between talking and dancing, we spent countless minutes kissing and just being together.
It’s the most content and at peace I’ve been since my accident and I know it’s because of Brynn.
She has a way of making me feel like I don’t have to talk to fill the quiet and that anything I have to say is going to be something she listens to without judgment.
I might not have been on a lot of dates in my life, but this is definitely the best one and it’s because of the girl at my side.
Before I know it, Brynn’s yawning and it’s time for our date to come to an end.
Together we fold the blankets and take care of the garbage from our dinner.
When everything is taken care of and in the back of my truck, I help Brynn in the passenger seat before shutting her door and making my way to the driver’s side.
We make the trip back to the diner still talking with our fingers entwined together and resting on my thigh.
When I pull back into the diner, the parking lot is empty and I don’t want to let Brynn go.
After helping her out, I walk her to her car and lean her against the side while kissing her deeply once again.
I don’t move from my spot until the lights of Brynn’s car disappear into the night after putting her inside with reluctance on both our parts.
