5. Scar

CHAPTER 5

SCAR

The guys and I head to one of the train station meeting rooms. While I hate to leave Evelyn alone, I trust her with the girls. Plus, I know she needs to make friends. The more connections she has here, the more likely she is to stay. And she needs to stay .

“What’s wrong? Did you not get the birds and the bees talk?” Viper asks with a smirk.

I'm not a violent person, but I see an opportunity. When he tips his chair back on its legs, I shove the chair, sending him flying backward. I have to say the look on his face is very satisfying.

“Hey! I was just joking!” He stands up and fixes the chair, moving out of my reach.

“I am still pissed at you guys for what you did. Anything could have happened to her on her way here. Even worse, you lied to her. She told me a story of a creep she met along the way. Hell, you couldn't have sprung to get her a first-class flight?” I try not to yell.

Viper at least looks guilty, and Lightning looks over at his brother Thunder.

“Don't look at me! I told you this was a shit idea. It's why I told him,” Thunder says.

“But she’s okay, right? The rules the site put up were that she was to arrange the transportation here…” Lightning starts.

“Then you should have sent her the money!” I roar so loud I'm sure the girls can hear me.

“Everything okay?” Sean, the interim sheriff, asks.

“Fine.” but the shit-eating grin on Six's face throws me. “What the hell are you smiling about?”

“You like her,” he says calmly as he sits back in his chair and crosses his arms.

“We know this feeling well, brother,” Ford says.

“What feeling are we talking about?” Sean says, taking a seat.

“The falling in love, but fighting it one.” Six smirks again.

“I'm sure this isn't what you came here for. What’s up?” Bear says to Sean, trying to change the subject and thankfully, the guy plays along.

“I texted him on my way here,” I say. “There is something I want to talk to you guys about.”

“Alright,” Sean interrupts. “I wanted you all to be the first to know that I've put in to become the town sheriff. Even though I wasn't sure if I wanted the job, I sure as hell don't want to bring in an outsider.”

“Well, perfect timing, Sheriff Lawson. We need good leadership. You let us know whatever you need to get the office back on track,” Atlas says before turning to me and nodding.

“I was at the Merc talking to Ruby…” I say, and the room fills with groans.

“Listen, she wasn't asking for help this time. In passing, she told me her and Orville were invited to a Christmas party at the Hot Springs. Apparently, it was just bought out and they are going to share their new plans at the party,” I say.

“I didn't even know it was for sale,” Atlas says.

“There was never a for sale sign up, but today there was a sign about it being closed for renovations when I left the refuge,” Asher says.

“Ruby and Orville are going and invited Evelyn and me so she can get to know Evelyn better,” I say.

“I think you should go, and I plan to stop by as well,” Sheriff Lawson says. “We had a break in at one of the empty stores last night. It looks like someone just slept there and moved on, but I want to make sure we don't overlook anything. New people moving into town means new problems.”

“It's weird no one knew it was up for sale, right?” I ask.

“Yeah. It’s even odder that Orville knew nothing about it. Any renovation plans would have crossed his desk, and he would have told Ruby,” Atlas says.

“It looks like a developer bought it,” Stone says while staring at his phone, his fingers flying across the screen. “Whoever it is hasalso been buying up property in Silver Creek.”

“Anyone we know?” Atlas asks.

“Nope, but the company is new, and to buy and spend this kind of money right out of the gate, they have to be backed by someone else,” Stone says.

“Rumor has it they are trying to bring in a hockey team to the area,” Ginger says as she walks over and sits in Six's lap as a few of the girls walk in.

“Where did you hear that?” Six asks her.

“They were talking about it in the cafe when I went in to get our coffee this morning,” she says.

“Well, you guys go to the party and ask some questions. See what you can find and let us know,” Atlas says.

“Sheriff Lawson,” Atlas says, and Sean smiles at the name. “If you find out anything about who owns it, will you let us know? I'm sure you understand why we are kind of weary after the year we have had.”

“I'm on it and I'm right there with you. Better to err on the side of caution at this point,” Sheriff Lawson says.

I realize in my head I'm already calling him Sheriff Lawson, so I know he's got it in the bag.

We get an update from Atlas on the progress with the Clubhouse and it seems to be going well. Orville has been helpful in getting the permits taken care of.

After the update, I head back to the main room and find Evelyn laughing with the girls. I love how carefree and happy she looks.

“Ready to go home?” I ask when she looks up at me.

“Yep!” She stands, gives the girls hugs and walks to my side.

I don't even realize I'm reaching for her until her hand lands in mine and the sparks shoot up my arm. Holding on tightly, I lead her out to my truck.

“Why do you guys meet in the train station?” she asks once we are on our way home.

“We have a clubhouse, but it was damaged last month, and it's being renovated. It's an old historical building, so it's taking a bit longer to fix as we want to keep it as close to the original as we can,” I say.

“I love historical buildings as there is always so much character and so many stories,” she says.

“Oh, there are plenty of stories. It used to be an old brothel.”

“Wow, how interesting! I can't wait to see it. But how was it damaged?” she asks.

I was hoping to avoid this question. While I don't want to lie to her, I don't want to scare her either.

“Mostly a fire. A rival club retaliated when we sent a few of their guys to jail. The rest of them are in jail or dead so they won't be an issue again.” I gloss over all the trouble Savage Bones has caused us this last year.

“Is that a normal occurrence for the club?”

“Nope, it was actually personal against our club president, but it's been all taken care of now,” I say, reaching over to squeeze her hand, giving her some reassurance.

We drive a bit in silence, and I'm worried I might have scared her off until she speaks next.

“Can I cook dinner tonight? I'm really in the mood for my mom's chicken casserole.”

“I'd love that. Let me know what I can do to help,” I tell her.

“Well, first I have to figure out the lay of the land, so just be patient with me.” She giggles.

She must be excited because as I’m parking the car in front of the cabin, she jumps out without waiting for me.

While she starts on dinner, I bring in the stuff we bought today and put everything away. She does a lot of opening cabinets to see where everything is before she gets started. Once I am done, I take a seat at the kitchen island to watch her as she gathers all the ingredients.

“Where are your spices?”

“Above the stove.” I have them stored in a basket out of her reach, so I’m ready to go help her get what she needs. It’s apparent that I’m going to need to find a new home for them.

She is struggling to grab the basket when I walk up behind her and reach for it. My front presses to her back, and there is no way she doesn't feel how hard I am. As soon as she feels me, she stops moving. I get the basket and place it on the counter as she turns to face me, still pressed between me and the counter.

Her eyes are wide, and her mouth is slightly parted, but her eyes are on my lips, and I lose it. I don't hesitate to lean in and kiss her. For a moment, she is completely still, seemingly shocked. But then her body melts into mine and I cradle her head between both my hands. She wraps her hands around my waist and holds on tight like I'm what is grounding her. When her lips press hard into mine, the kiss quickly turns hungry as our lips dance. My cock aches to claim her and I groan because the last thing I want to do is scare her away.

Pulling away, I place a gentle kiss on her forehead, but I don't take a step back. I'm not ready to put too much space between us yet.

She looks up at me sexy as fuck with a slight blush on her face and a lust haze in her eyes. I did that to her. That thought has me leaking cum in my pants.

Finally, I step away not wanting to rush things.

How the hell am I supposed to sleep now that I know what it feels like to have her body pressed against mine?
