Chapter 15
Chapter Fifteen
Asher
It was Friday, and I, for one, was never so glad for the weekend. After having dinner with Emma Monday evening—and that scorching kiss after—she was all I could think about. Emma, on the other hand, didn’t seem to have an issue at all.
She’d breezed in on Tuesday like nothing special had happened the night before.
It had been special to me. This woman frustrated the living hell out of me.
I got zero time alone with her outside of our concentrated coding time.
She’d been having lunch with Cassie all week and spending lots of time in customer service, fine tuning the app.
Wasn’t that her job? It was, but I wanted her close. She hadn’t been unaffected by that kiss. I’d seen the dreamy look in her eyes, her surprise when I stepped back and allowed her to get into her car.
My body had demanded more action, but I ignored it. Emma wasn’t a woman to be rushed, but damned if I wanted to wait this long. Tonight, I’d make another move. Because I wanted Emma.
“Crap,” she muttered.
“What’s up?” I glanced over at her screen.
“I finally got the toy section of the app for R I could see it.
“What’s wrong?”
She shrugged. “Nothing big.”
I glanced at the clock. “It’s almost four. Why don’t we wrap this up, and head to Whistle Stop?”
“All right.”
I was surprised when she didn’t put up a fuss, but then she and Cassie had become friends, and she knew Cassie would be there.
We powered down our computers and gathered our belongings.
Emma had gotten used to leaving her laptop in the office since it was locked, and except for Ben and the head of security, we were the only two with key codes.
We were the first ones at the Whistle Stop, not surprising. Marcus usually stayed until four-thirty, and Cassie wouldn’t leave the office without him. I found a table that would hold eight and held Emma’s chair out for her.
“Thank you,” she said. I sat as she took a deep breath and released it. “I didn’t mean to snap at you in the office.”
“It’s fine.” I waved my hand.
“It’s not. I’m usually not short tempered.”
“What set you off?” I was curious.
“My parents are coming to town in a couple of weeks and want me to attend some event with them.”
“And that’s bad because?” From the tone of her voice, she wasn’t happy about her parents visit or whatever the event was.
She shook her head as Josh and Dean walked up to the table.
“What a day.” Josh sat to Emma’s right, and Dean sat next to Josh.
“I need this,” Dean said.
“How are you, Emma?” Josh asked.
“Good. Busy day?”
I watched the interaction between Josh, Emma, and Dean. She was friendly with them, but not overly so. I’d noticed that when she chatted with them about what was needed for their app.
By the time Cassie and Marcus joined us, Miles and Lucas had arrived, and there were two pitchers of beer on the table and mugs.
“We’re all here,” Marcus commented.
“About time,” Cassie muttered.
The men laughed. “Sorry, Cassie, some of us don’t get to leave the office at four,” Lucas said.
I glanced around the table at my friends, and my gaze settled on Emma. She looked a bit uncomfortable. She hadn’t been around all of us at once yet.
“Are you okay?” I whispered.
“I’m fine. It’s interesting to see all of you together.”
“Watch out once the beer starts flowing.”
