Chapter 29
Chapter Twenty-Nine
Asher
I realized I was smiling. Warm. Content. Happy. As the memories replayed, I opened my eyes.
Nope, not a dream. This is real.
Emma was lying on my chest, sound asleep. With the lightest touch so as not to wake her, I moved a stray strand of hair off her face. Damn, this woman had gotten beneath my skin in more ways than one. Last night had been mind-blowing. Real life was better than any dream could ever be.
I wasn’t one to wax poetic about women I slept with, but Emma? She was everything I could hope for and more.
She began to stir, turned her head from one side to the other, yawned, moved her arms upward in a half-stretch, then opened her eyes.
“G’morning,” she whispered and yawned again, this time with her hand covering her mouth.
“Morning, sweetheart.” I leaned down to kiss her, but she shook her head and kept her hand over her mouth.
“Morning breath.” Her remark was muffled by her hand.
“I don’t care.” I reached under her arms, pulled her up my chest, and took her lips in a hard kiss. When I pushed my tongue between her lips, all I tasted was Emma’s unique flavor. I broke the kiss when my cell ring. Damned phone!
I was going to let it ring, then I remembered Emma’s car. “Be right back.”
I slid out of bed, found my pants on the floor, and pulled my cell out of the pocket. “Hello.” I turned to face Emma, who was leaning on one elbow, the sheet draped over her, showing just the top curve of her breasts. She watched me, a sexy grin on her face.
Temptation and I have to pay attention to this call. Control yourself, Asher.
“Yes, I understand. We’ll be over in a couple of hours.” I ended the call, turned the phone screen side down on the nightstand, then sat on the bed and memorized every aspect of the woman under the covers. “Keep staring at me like that, and we’ll never leave this bedroom.”
Her eyes brightened. “Maybe another day. Was that about my battery?”
“Yes. It’s dead. Chase is going to install a new one.”
Emma pulled the sheet around her as she slid out of bed. “Thank you.” She brushed a kiss across my cheek before she made her way out of the bedroom. Then I heard the guest bathroom door shut.
I stood and took a step before I could stop myself.
No. If I went in there, we’d never get out of this house.
I grabbed some clean clothes and went into my bathroom.
I turned on the shower then brushed my teeth.
Memories from last night kept running in my head, and I was semi-erect when I stepped into the shower.
I decreased the hot water and let the water flow over my back as it cooled.
Nope. I will ignore my body and think about a plan.
Okay, yeah. Once her car was fixed, I’d follow her home and convince her to pack more clothes and come back to my house.
Even considering that was another new thing for me. I’d never asked a woman to stay at my house before. I was breaking all of my rules for Emma.
I wanted her with me.
