I clung to the ceiling in my tiny spider form, ready to strike the moment Roman arrived back here. The time magic anchored itself to a location when used, and this had been the last spot in this time Roman had departed from.
So, while Darcy stayed out of the way, I waited. Roman would come back here eventually.
And he did, with Past Me in tow.
Removing all questions from my mind, I made my leap, landing in Roman’s hair. In this form, the toxins from my bite could put a target to sleep. On Butterfly, it was useless to even try.
But I didn’t need to bite him to take him down.
Right before Butterfly disappeared, the rat made a piercing battle cry, leaping out from under the dining table.
I thought he’d been in the other room, listening, staying safe.
He landed on Roman’s leg just before we teleported away, his timing impeccable.
A terribly cold and familiar wind almost tore me from the witch’s hair.
