Drained of Magic, Full of Love

Kaiden

Her heart had stopped.

More. He needed more. More magic. More smiles and secret glances. More moments and conversations. More time.

Tears slid down his cheeks and splattered on Aradia’s slack face. He hugged her body closer, holding her head against his chest.

“Please, please, please,” he whispered in her ear. “Don’t leave.”

Her skin was cold to the touch and Kaiden choked on a sob which threatened to suffocate him.

He warmed himself against her chill. The roar of chaos, clashing of steel, and smoke of magic was a distant hum compared to the splitting crack of his heart.

Aradia laid lifeless, the damned dagger wedged upward between her ribcage and straight to her heart.

He would give anything to turn back time and save her. He hadn’t been fast enough.

He gripped the dagger and with a clean jerk ripped it free. Fresh blood oozed from the hole and he placed his hand upon it. His fire came to life one last time and with it he poured everything he had into her wound, sealing it and completely draining him.

More. All of it. Every last drop of fire. The only spark of magic he had within him fused into Aradia’s body. He gave it all.

Let it be enough.
