Epilogue

I grabbed two bottles of beer and headed over to the barbecue area.

Deuce was grilling steaks and there were a stack of potatoes baking in a firepit.

Mom had put on a spread of salads, fruits, and veggies, along with plates filled with every conceivable item you could possibly put on a baked potato.

I handed one of the beers to Deuce and took a long drink of the other one. Batting my eyelashes, I grinned at him. “Who knew hooking up with a biker would get me so well fed?”

“I’m just full of surprises.” He put down the tongs he’d been using to turn the steaks.

He twisted the cap off and tossed it in the garbage bin before grabbing my hand.

Turning my arm, he examined the remains of the road rash.

It was healing nicely and probably wouldn’t leave much of a scar, or so I hoped.

“Things turned out pretty good, didn’t they?” I draped one arm around his waist.

He nodded. “They did. Seems the whole trafficking ring were caught with their pants down. They planned to take you and send you abroad immediately, so they had all kinds of incriminating information with them at that exchange. Someone tipped off the FBI about the trade, and just after we left they showed up and busted the group while they were trying to mop up their injured. Didn’t take much in the way of persuasion to get those guys to turn on the head honchos. ”

“No honor amongst thieves, or something like that?”

Deuce took a swig of his beer. “None whatsoever.” He gestured at Janet who was busy playing horseshoes with Tiny. “Think anything’s going to happen there?”

I watched as Janet blew a kiss at Thor behind Tiny’s back. “Tonight maybe, but Janet isn’t much for long term. I’m not entirely sure she understands the concept.”

Deuce leaned down to sear a kiss across my lips. “I thought I was done with it too, until a certain someone threw herself at my feet.”

I laughed. “You have to admit it was one hell of a way to catch your attention.”

“That it was.” His expression sobered. “I do love you, with all my heart.”

I leaned into him. “I know it’s way too soon, but I think I fell in love with you when I was lying on the pavement, and I looked up to see you. You are my knight on shining armor.”

Putting his beer down, he proceeded to kiss me breathless.

“Hey, you two. Get a room!”

Deuce scooped me up in his arms. “Excellent idea, Rattler. You might want to take care of the steaks. We’re going to be a while!”

A raucous round of applause and catcalls followed us as Deuce made his way to the clubhouse with me held firmly against his chest.
