Chapter 17

Chapter Seventeen

AXE

Motherfuckin’ hell. I’m going to kill every last one of them.

We were finally able to catch up with the van when they stopped. It was too late, though. My stomach churned when I caught sight of my ol’ lady in the arms of some man in dark robes carrying her limp body.

Others came out of the dark when we stopped, and gunfire is exchanged. I aim at the one carrying CJ and shoot him in the leg, not risking hitting him anywhere else. CJ’s limp form crumples to the ground, and I scream her name.

“The Dark Lord awaits her,” a woman sneers, stepping forward. “You have no right to be here.”

“Bitch, you better back the fuck off before I shoot you myself,” I snarl, holding my gun pointed in her direction.

She curls her lip up and holds her head up in refusal to back down.

Gunfire comes at us once again and the woman is shot from behind. Screams of some fuckin’ bullshit are being chanted and I’m not sure what the hell it is. My only concern is getting to CJ and making sure she’s okay.

“Axe, you make a run for it. Get to CJ, I’ll cover you,” Dagger yells. I nod and do just that. I rush through the gunfire and head for my woman. Someone aims their gun at me, and I pull the trigger causing them to go down.

Making it to CJ’s side, I’m faced with the horror of what she’s been through. Cuts mar her skin, and someone carved a W into the top of her left breast.

“Fuck,” I snarl and cup the side of her face. “I’m here, Citrus, I’m here,” I murmur, checking her pulse to find it there, but it’s weak. For the second time in months, I’m faced with the possibility of losing her.

This can’t happen.

I won’t lose her.

Standing over her, a rage I’ve never felt before takes hold of me, and I empty the clip in my gun and pull my other one out, doing the same with that one. By the time I pull the trigger one last time, all the men who were aiming to kill us have fallen.

My breathing is ragged and I kneel back down next to CJ.

Dagger joins me with my other brothers.

“Fuck,” Hammer snarls and looks away briefly.

“She’s got a pulse, but we’re gonna need to get her to the hospital and get her cleaned up,” Dagger mutters.

“Would it be better to take her to the clubhouse? We’re closer to that than anywhere else,” Gunner mutters.

“No, we need to go to the hospital. She fell from that fucker’s arms and hit her head. I saw it. She needs more than what I can do.” Dagger shakes his head.

“Find a vehicle we can put her in and get her out of here,” I state. There’s no way we can get her out of here on our bikes. Pulling my cut off, I strip my shirt off and gently pull it over CJ’s body to cover her nudity from the others. They don’t need to see her body.

“We’ll take the van. It still has the keys in it,” Malice states. “After we get her to the hospital, Brass and Glock can get a few others to help them dispose of the van.”

“What about the carnage here?” Cy asks.

“Don’t worry about it. I’ll deal with them,” Rogue says. “Colt and Carbine will help me.”

Nodding, I carefully lift CJ into my arms and head for the van. The back of it is still open and rage starts to fill me once again at the sight I see when I go to climb in. Blood was on the floor—her blood. There was also a syringe lying on the floor of the van.

“We take that into the hospital with us. They could have put whatever was in it in CJ,” I mutter, nodding to the syringe as I climb into the back, avoiding thoughts of the shackles dangling from either side of the damn walls.

The back doors are closed behind Dagger after he gets in.

Someone gets in the front and starts the engine. We’re moving, heading for the hospital.

Closing my eyes, I shoot a prayer to whoever could be listening, not to let anything happen to CJ. I don’t want to live without her. She can’t leave me.

At the hospital, CJ’s quickly taken from my arms, and I’m sent to the waiting room to wait for her once again. This can’t keep happening. Not when it comes to CJ. The only other time I want to be coming into a hospital is when she and I are expecting a baby.

Other than that, never again.

Waiting isn’t something I’m good at. I’m frustrated, and of course, the staff didn’t want to tell me anything at first, but after the last time, I made sure her information would have me as the point of contact and they believe she’s my wife. Which she will be one day.

Sooner if I have my way. I’ve lived my life alone long enough as it is. I’m not about to go any longer without her.

Finally, after several hours of waiting, the doctor comes to speak with me.

“Your wife sustained a concussion, dislocated shoulder, and a broken hand from the fall. We were able to put her shoulder back in place, cast her hand. We also stitched her stomach wounds up and cleaned the superficial ones and bandaged them. I don’t know what happened to her, but she’s lucky to have not lost the baby,” the doctor states.

“Come again,” I ask, unsure I heard that last part right.

“Your wife, she’s still very early in her pregnancy and there’s a chance she could lose the baby.”

CJ’s pregnant.

Oh shit.

I’m going to be a dad.

Fuck.

A grin forms on my face at the knowledge after the doctor finishes speaking and tells me what room my ol’ lady is being transferred to.

Turning to my brothers, I look at them but not really seeing them. “I’m gonna be a dad. CJ’s gonna be okay.”
