Chapter 27 #2

“Okay, okay, brother—enough with the barbs or I’ll tell your mate on you.”

“That is so not fair. Wait until you find your mate and you’ll see what I mean,” Steel said, laughing lightly. “Now that that’s over, what did you want to talk to me about?”

Slate’s voice became serious “Alpha Silver Point has been calling me a number of times during the last several days but I haven’t picked up. He’s left messages on voicemail so I know what he wants.”

“And what does he want?” asked Steel in a deadly calm voice.

Slate knew when his brother used that voice, he was very angry. “He wants me to give him a waiver on our requirement for him to produce a title to the Fox River property and release the money for his mining operation on the land.” Slate paused, waiting for the explosion he knew would be coming.

“That fucking asshole!” Yup, there it was, Slate thought, as Steel erupted.

“He’s being investigated by the High Council and he knows the brothers are alive.

He’s either got a lot of nerve or he’s the stupidest prick alive.

” Steel was seeing red and his anger threatened to consume him.

That sonofabitch—I’ll see him dead before he ever gets his filthy hands on the land. That land is my pup’s legacy.

Slate said, “I understand what you’re saying but I don’t get why the Alpha would want to proceed on the mining project when he may be found guilty and sentenced to death? It doesn’t make sense on the face of it, but my gut tells me he thinks he’ll have the land—and soon.”

“But how?” asked Steel. “He’s been put under official notice he can’t harm anyone in the Blackwood Pack while the investigation is underway.”

“How ironclad is the complaint?” asked Slate.

“Pretty tight as far as I can see,” said Steel. “The only problem is it lacks eyewitnesses. But even without that, I don’t believe the High Council will dismiss the complaint before investigating it.”

“Well,” said Slate, “I’ll tell Josiah I’ve submitted his request to the Board and my hands are tied until they decide. In the meantime, show the complaint to Penn,” he suggested, referring to their attorney.

“Thanks, I’ll do that,” said Steel, then asked, “When will you be here? My mate is eager to meet you.”

“I’ve been delayed due to a health crisis I have to handle concerning Mexican Wolf shifters. Wolves in Mexico are getting attacked, many of them badly injured. So, unless you need me right now, I have to solve that problem first,” said Slate.

“Do you know who’s attacking them?”

“No, I’m heading down there tomorrow for a firsthand look,” replied Slate.

“Be careful,” cautioned Steel. “Call me if you need anything.”

“Will do. Say hello to Mom, Dad, and Jackson for me. Talk to you later,” Slate said before hanging up.

Steel sat deep in thought about what Alpha Silver Point was up to.

He knew Silver Point wouldn’t back down, but what they’d do remained a mystery.

He had a back-up plan that would force the Alpha to retreat and stop threatening his mate and his brothers if the warning from the High Council didn’t do it.

Steel just didn’t want to play the card too soon.

He turned his thoughts to the crisis in Mexico.

That certainly took priority right now over Steel’s problem with Silver Point though he was disappointed his brother’s visit would be delayed.

Steel sighed. Might as well do what Slate suggested so he placed a call to their attorney.

“Penn Anderson.”

“Penn, its Steel. How’s everything?”

“I heard you got mated. So, no more Friday night tail chasing? Just Slate and me from now on, huh? Poor baby, your fun days are over,” teased Penn.

“Hardy har, har. I have everything I’ve ever wanted and don’t miss those days at all,” Steel said, grinning. “Someday you and Slate will find your fated mates and it will be the end of the ‘Wolf Man Whore Club’ forever.”

“Never! So, what’s up?”

“My mate filed a complaint against the Silver Point Pack with the Universal Paranormal High Council. It’s a long story and I won’t waste your time now because it’s all in the complaint.”

“Has the Alpha of that pack been notified of the complaint and has he been given the warning?”

“Yes, the representative warned him in person,” replied Steel.

“Okay, so what’s the problem?” asked Penn.

“I received word today about some of the Alpha’s actions and wonder how strong our complaint is and if there’s some way for Silver Point to get it dismissed. I’d like you to look it over for any defects which could be used by them in their defense,” said Steel.

“No problem. Send it over and I’ll call you as soon as I’ve a chance to review it,” said Penn.

“Thanks. Later dude,” Steel said, hanging up.

After he emailed the complaint to Penn, he thought about the many wild nights the three of them enjoyed through the years.

Yeah, he had been a man whore—not that he would ever tell his mate that.

He and his brother met Penn at school and were best friends ever since.

They immediately clicked: together they spent their younger years fucking any piece of ass that caught their interest. Now those days were over for Steel, but he had no regrets.

That was then. His life now was so much better with a mate he loved and a pup on the way.
