Chapter 27

Dirty

“Okay, we need a fucking plan to get my granddaughter back, preferably before my daughter-in-law breaks,” my dad says as soon as the doors shut, and I breathe heavy as I round the table and get back to my laptop, my main focus, my daughter.

I log into the motel's security footage and sigh in relief, seeing the car still there.

“Won’t they be expecting us?” Anchor asks, and I shake my head.

“No, Hol, most likely, given what Hol mentioned, the woman is coo-coo crazy. There’s a high chance she’ll be armed and looking to get rid of the main problem keeping her from taking her grandchild—Holly,” I say as I press a few buttons to rewind the footage, playing it back to the moment they arrive.

I watch as they get out. The younger woman with blonde hair throws sharp words at the older one.

The older woman, so gaunt she looks like she’s been on drugs for fucking years, grabs a sobbing Lyra from the back seat, her thin fingers dug into Lyra’s arm so hard I can almost feel it, and I growl, rage burning inside me.

Lyra tries to fight her off, and the woman yanks her harder before saying something to her, making her compliant.

“What’s the over-under she just threatened her mama?” Ace growls, and I nod because, yeah, if I were a betting man, which during church I seem to be, she did.

“We’ll need to go in a truck,” Doc instantly states, “We can’t tip them off with our bikes, and that motel has a back entrance. I know the code for the gate.”

I look at him with a frown, joining everyone else's confusion and he winces and mutters, "I used to fuck the receptionist there before I met Brit. Don’t fucking tell her that, though. I like my balls and plan to impregnate her often."

Okay, I didn’t see that one coming.

Shaking my head, I look back down at the footage just as the door to church slams open and a tearful Summer rushes in, causing Anchor to rush over to her, but he pauses when she cries, “Holly’s gone!

She went to use the restroom, and something didn’t sit right with me, so I went to follow only to see her driving out of the gates, the prospect looking at her with confusion, she’s gone after Lyra! ”

My heart stops, my body trembles, and fuck!

No, no, no, no!

I quickly shove away from the table and rush outta church without a word, the brothers following me while Brit sobs.

I put my hand up to her so she knows it isn’t her fault. I should have seen this coming. Where Lyra and Caleb are concerned, Holly is a mama bear, and no one takes her kids, I mean, fuck, she came to the club with Caleb, she refused to leave him at the school.

With my brothers at my heels, I rush outta the clubhouse and towards the trucks, my main goal, getting to my girls.

My heart pounds as we slowly pull up outside the motel, Hol’s car parked next to the one Lyra was shoved in, and I quickly climb out.

“Dirty, think logically and not with your emotions,” my dad snaps as he grabs my arm, trying to stop me from running towards the room, but I shake my head.

I didn’t stop to think when Summer came in sobbing, and I’m not stopping to think now.

“My girls are in there!” I remind him and he nods as the brothers crowd around us.

“I know, believe me, and we’ll get them both out, but you don’t know what you are running into, Caleb needs you,” he reminds me, and I growl, “And he needs his mother and sister,” just as we hear Lyra scream.

I don’t think twice—I shove my dad outta the way and sprint towards the hotel room on the first floor that I watched them walk into it from the CCTV footage.

The door is already slightly open, and I storm into it, but freeze seeing a gun being held up against my woman, Lyra, clutching at her waist with a red mark across her tear stained cheek, and I growl, as every eye comes my way.

“Who are you?” the deranged woman demands to know.

“I’m Lyra’s father,” I state, hoping to piss her off enough to get the gun on me and not my girls, just as the brothers fill the room.

The other woman gasps, while the deranged one trembles in fear as she looks at all the cuts and weapons.

“You are not her father,” she snaps, keeping her gun on my girls. “My son was her father, and that girl caused his death. It’s because of her that he assaulted all those other girls, it’s because of her that he got kicked off the football team, doing drugs, and it’s because of her that he is dead!”

Okay, so the woman is more than coo-coo crazy; she’s fucking bat-shit crazy.

“How is my girl at fault when your son assaulted the other women before he even got with her?” I ask her calmly, and the other woman flinches.

“How can my girl be at fault for his cheating on her when she gave him her virginity the night before?” I continue, and her hand trembles, “How can my girl be at fault when he purposely drove into the tree?”

I shake my head as I say, “You want to blame someone for your son's actions, and you’ve decided to latch onto Holly. When you continued with your ranting, Holly had no choice but to ensure you didn’t have contact with my daughter for her safety.

You made your bed, lady, and now you need to lie in it instead of attempting kidnap and murder. ”

“Mama, put the gun down,” the other woman says with a tremble, but the crazy lady shakes her head.

“She’s my last connection to my son,” she chokes.

“No, your daughter is also the living memory of your son,” Doc instantly states, “And this, what you are doing, is going to haunt you because little Lyra will never come near you again.”

“Mama, please,” the woman pleads as I slowly move, my dad trying to grab hold of me, but I dodge him and stand before my girls.

Holly sobs and grips the back of my cut, trying to push me away, but I don’t budge. I refuse.

“Move!” the woman screams, “She killed my son!”

“No, he killed himself, Mama, please, don’t do this. I wouldn’t have helped if I knew this was your plan, please…” The woman continues to plead, but the crazy lady doesn’t listen.

“You are not taking my family away from me,” I growl, and Holly sobs, her grip on my cut tightening.

“That’s my son's child,” she sobs, but I shake my head and state, “No, she’s mine.”

I see the switch in her eyes, and instead of moving the gun on me like I had hoped and before I can react to tackle her, the woman moves her hand slightly and pulls the trigger, not once, but twice, and it’s like everything moves in slow motion, and I can’t stop it.

Holly shoves me aside, my body stumbling in shock and Lyra is pushed into my stomach who I instantly catch as I roar out, watching my girl fall as the other woman drops with a choking sound.

The crazed lady screams, “Freya!” just as she’s tackled and I quickly pass Lyra to my dad and stumble to Holly, who cries in pain.

My eyes go to her leg, the blood instantly pouring, and I choke, “What the fuck did you do?” as I grip her leg.

“Okay, getting shot hurts,” Holly chokes as Doc quickly kneels before her and takes over, gripping her thigh.

“No shit, darling,” I croak as I run my fingers through her hair, all while the woman screams behind us, and I look to see Anchor and Trigger restraining her while Tank works on her daughter, giving her CPR.

“Freya?” Hol chokes just as Tank calls, “I’ve got a fucking pulse, but we need to move her now,” and the woman sobs with relief.

“I don’t know what you’re relieved about, you’re going to jail, lady,” Anchor snaps as Trigger mentions, “At least now we know where her son got his crazy from,” and Holly chokes out a laugh, and I shake my head as I lean down and press my forehead against hers.

“Don’t ever fucking do that again!” I warn her, my tears falling as she whispers, “I’ll always save you...”

My body melts, and Lyra screams, “Mama,” and I look her way to see Dad holding her tightly as she struggles against him crying her heart out.

“She’s okay, baby girl, let Grandpa take you outside,” I say, and she watches me for a second before nodding as she melts into my dad, and I look back at Hol just as sirens blast in the background. I sigh with relief knowing Ace most likely gave the signal.

Fuck I’m glad we have them in our pockets…

“The bullet is still in your thigh, sweetheart, but I’d feel better if we remove it at the hospital where it's sterile,” Doc says, and Hol nods as a few tears leak, and I press my lips against her forehead before pressing them onto her soft ones, finally feeling at home again.

I choke against her lips, “You’re coming home, no more breather for you,” and she nods as she whispers, “Okay, but expect pranks when you tick me off,” and I smile softly as Doc mutters, “Oh yeah, she’s definitely not meeting Annalise or any of the Devil’s ladies either…”

“I love you, Alex,” she rasps, and I reply, “I love you too,” and I do, so fucking much.

I don’t take my eyes off my girl as the cops swarm the place, even when the woman is read her rights for kidnapping and attempted murder, or when Doc speaks to the paramedics, explaining Hol will be placed under his care. I watch her, ensuring she’s with me, while my dad looks after Lyra outside.

I’m never letting this fucking woman out of my sight again, and in a few days, she will be wearing my cut and signing adoption papers just like I will be. It’s time we become the family I know we are.
