Chapter 17
DERRICK
Sienna: Water broke. On way to hospital. Evan is freaking out.
That is the text message I wake up to.
“Ness!” I scream as I frantically run through the house. “Ness!” I rush into her room and jump on her bed.
“What the fuck, Derrick?” she grumbles, rubbing her eyes.
“Sienna’s water broke and she’s in the hospital. The baby is coming, the baby is coming!” I scream excitedly as I bounce up and down on the bed. “But I haven’t heard anything since her message at four this morning. It’s been hours, do you think I should call her?”
“No. She’s giving birth, she can’t take your call,” Ness says.
“It’s been hours.”
“D, it could take a whole other day for her to push that baby out,” Vanessa explains.
“You don’t just have the baby right after your water breaks?”
“Not always. I guess some people do, but I think they give you drugs and things to take the pain away, and that might slow the process. I have no idea, I’ve never had a baby before.” Ness shrugs.
“You want to have a baby?” I ask her.
“You offering?” She smirks.
“You can have my sperm, babe, not my dick,” I tell her, which makes her burst out laughing.
“Well, that’s good to know I have a Plan B. Come on, let’s have some breakfast and wait for the call.”
“You think I should text the crew? She may not have had time to text everyone.”
“Yes. Let them know the baby watch has officially started. I bet Evan is freaking out.” Vanessa laughs.
“For sure. Sienna is going to be the cool, calm, collected one while giving birth, and Evan will probably be the one who faints at the first sight of blood, and then nurses will be fawning over him when he passes out.”
“That would be so Evan.” Ness chuckles again.
I pull out my phone as we walk to the kitchen and start making some breakfast. I let everyone know if they don’t know already that waters have broken, and it could happen anytime.
A little while later, Evan calls me.
“Did she have the baby? Is he here?” I yell, picking up the phone.
“No. She’s still in labor, she’s doing fine. Fuck, D, she’s incredible. The amount of pain she is in. I don’t know how she is doing it. I love her so fucking much.”
Aw, you can hear the reverence in his voice.
“Derrick, I’m fine. It’s not too bad. The drugs are good,” Sienna calls out. Evan switches the call to FaceTime, and we see Sienna’s tired but beautiful face.
“You look good,” Ness says.
“This little shit won’t come out. I love him, but he’s being a stubborn little bastard, and I think he is going to take after his father,” she says through gritted teeth. This makes Ness and me laugh.
“Seems like you’re coping just fine then,” I tease.
“Screw you. You’re lucky I’m flying high on the drugs, otherwise I’d be cursing you all out.” She winces.
“Oh my god, are you okay?” I ask.
Sienna waves off my concern. “Yes. Just a good contraction.”
“You can feel them while on the drugs?” Ness asks.
“Not really, but kind of. I’m just uncomfortable.” She moans.
“The nurse has come in to check on Si, we have to go,” Evan says.
“Good luck, we love you, can’t wait to meet little bean.” With that, Evan hangs up on us.
“Poor thing, she looks like she’s in hell.” Ness laughs.
“Love how panicky Evan is.” I smirk.
“Bet that is annoying her.”
“Yes. He will be trying to help her, and she’ll be like ‘Will you fuck off. Don’t touch me. You got me in this position’,” I say, raising my voice to sound like Sienna. This has us both bursting out laughing. “This waiting game sucks.”
“I’m sure it won’t be much longer. Let’s get ready so as soon as we get the news, we can visit them.”
“Yes. We must be the first after the parentals. We are the godparents.”
Hours later, we get a text from Evan with a photo of Sienna, a little pink thing on her chest, and Evan. ‘Welcome to the world, Ryder Hayes Wyld’ the message says. Vanessa and I burst out crying and hug each other.
“He’s going to be a rock star, isn’t he, with that name?” I smirk at her.
“For sure. I can’t believe he is here. They both look so happy.”
“How long till Evan has her knocked up again?” I smirk at my friend.
“Nooo, Sienna would kill him.”
I raise a brow at her. “That man is going to put as many babies into her as humanly possible.”
We stopped and bought huge bouquets of flowers for Sienna as soon as Evan messaged us that we could come up and visit them. I wasn’t prepared for the overwhelming emotion of seeing Sienna and Evan with their baby. I burst out crying as soon as I walk into the hospital suite and hug my girl.
“I’m so proud of you,” I tell her.
“I’m so happy, D. I love him so much,” she says, bursting into tears herself.
Evan wheels the little cradle over to where Vanessa and I are standing, and we peer into the crib at the little sleeping bundle.
“Sisi, he’s gorgeous,” Vanessa says, in awe of this miracle just like I am.
“He’s going to be a lady killer just like his dad,” I say, giving Evan a wink. I can see dad mode being activated in real time as Evan’s mind runs through all the shit he’s done in his life, and that the same things are going to happen to him as he stares at his son.
“Y’all, look at those lips, I would kill to have that pout,” Charlotte adds.
“You did good, man.” Axel slaps Evan on the back as he directs Evan out of the room. The rest of the band follows. I’m going to guess Christian is outside and doesn’t want to come in because Ness is here. Urgh. He’s such a baby.
“Christian’s turned up,” Sienna says, noticing the tension that seems to have filled the room.
“This is about you today. You just had a freaking baby,” Ness says, changing the conversation.
“And I’m still your best friend and need to know, are you okay?” Sienna asks. Even after just pushing a human out of her vagina, Sienna is still worried about her friends. This woman is a literal goddess.
“It’s fine, the space has been good,” Vanessa reassures her.
“We are having the best time together as roomies,” I add.
“Please, don’t worry about me, everything is going to work out fine,” Vanessa tells her, but Sienna doesn’t look convinced.
“So, when are you having the next one?” I ask, changing the subject again.
Sienna glares at me, then her eyes fall on the bundle in the crib. “Probably sooner than I would want judging by how in love with him I am. Maybe ask me again in a couple of months, I’m sure the answer will be different.” She smiles.
