Chapter 15

Fifteen

Unknown

I click my fingers and speak in a low voice that I hope disguises who I am, at least for now. ‘Come on, Mindy. We have work to do.’ Somehow, I sound gruffer than ever. This is all easier than I ever thought it would be.

With wide eyes, gaze darting everywhere, she finally settles on looking at me but she can’t see me, I make sure to wear the morph mask.

I realise I’m staring because I can’t actually believe I’ve done this.

A part of me is terrified because I’ve crossed a line here, one in which I can never go back on but the other side of me is euphoric. My veins buzz with excitement.

The scent of her perspiration tickles my nostrils through the material.

I savour it but then again, it’s not the first time I’ve been up close and smelled her.

I’ve inhaled her on many occasions, she just doesn’t know about all the other times.

The mask is doing little to put her at ease but do I care?

Not really. Wow – dopamine hit. Her fear is really tingling my senses.

One thing is for sure, she can never see who I am underneath the garb that hides me so I can be anyone I want to be.

‘I know this isn’t what you’re used to. I’ve lain on your bed, it’s comfy, so comfy.’

She stares, confused and disturbed by what I’m saying as she sits rigid in the chair I’ve chained her to so there’s no escape.

Now she knows I’ve been checking out her house, not just watching her through her laptop.

I want to shout. Yes, Mindy. I’ve been all over your house with you in it.

I’ve watched you sleeping and lay next to you, feeling your soft breaths on my forehead.

I inhale and exhale, willing the tension in my shoulders to leave.

It’s cold but then again, it’s her fault for constantly fidgeting until the blanket on her knees dropped onto the floor. I was only trying to keep her warm because, well, that’s the kind thing to do and I’m a kind person.

She trembles before letting out an unexpected piercing scream so I force the ball gag over her head and push the ball into her mouth.

I glance at my smartwatch. It’s time to prepare for the performance but first, she needs some rest. I’ve bound her so tightly that not even Houdini could escape, if he was still alive.

Then, I have work to do. I need to put my plan in motion and there’s a lot of it to get through.

I’m going to introduce her to the dark path that I’ve created for all those that I carefully select to enter.

Only a special kind of person gets to travel my path and enter the tavern.

They’ll see why they were so special soon.

I’ve built up their expectation, now I have to deliver.

Her eyes are still wide because she doesn’t know what’s on the agenda. Her breaths behind the ball gag come quick and sharp. She tries to garble some words out. Her throat is so dry now I can’t make out what she’s saying, all I can focus on is the ugly string of drool hanging from her chin.

I always thought money made the world go round, but now I know it’s power and that comes from influence.

Money helps, I won’t deny that but some people have a magnetism about them that others can’t help but follow.

It took forever but I’ve cracked the code.

I have my trusty online followers – my disciples.

OpenMeSmiler – that’s me – is a God to them and now I will give them what they want.

So far, it’s been tame but we’re ready for the next level.

She’s exhausted herself, thank goodness. It’s time to begin, to let her know exactly what I’ve seen before I lead her to the next chapter. I press the remote and the TV comes on. The video is ready to play.

Tears roll down her face as she sees the montage I’ve put together.

Her lying in bed, her crying alone, the time she let Hoppy sleep in her room, the time she was touching herself, thinking that not a soul was sharing that moment with her.

Her having sex. I let out a laugh. That video I sent to her, I knew the police would be able to recover it and it’s all a part of my plan.

I knew Ursula would report her missing when she saw the rabbit left by the car.

I am the narrator in this story and boy it’s an exciting one.

The police did exactly what I thought they’d do next.

They searched her home. They found the devices I’d left behind.

I don’t care. They’re not traceable back to me.

I glance at Mindy and laugh. She deserves this.

As the video comes to an end, I wait for her to watch the finale.

We watch as the police came and went through Mindy’s bedroom.

They missed one device set into the wall with only a pin hole coming through the wallpaper, but I didn’t miss them.

I’m pleased with myself for planting that one.

It took a lot of effort working it through the wall cavity from the loft.

I laugh and clap at the end of the video.

The show is about to begin. It’s time to play.
