Chapter Three
“I’m sorry, what?” said Clodagh, feeling better for having some liquid inside her. She was also aware of something happening below her belly that had nothing to do with the coffee.
“I did,” said Rae, easing back to sit beside Clodagh.
“We barely knew each other,” said Clodagh.
“No, but I desperately wanted to know you,” said Rae. They ran a hand through their hair. “I just didn’t have the confidence to do anything about it back then.”
“And now?” Clodagh raised an eyebrow, looking across at Rae.
“And now, well, I need to distract you from what’s happening, and this seems as good a way as any,” said Rae.
“So this is just a distraction?” Clodagh couldn’t help but feel disappointed.
“Not just a distraction,” said Rae. “I guess it is a distraction of sorts but it’s also me shooting my shot.” They looked over at Clodagh and for the first time, looked apprehensive. “If that’s ok.”
“It’s ok,” said Clodagh with a giggle. And then a laugh which bubbled over into more laughter. She snorted, and Rae’s face burst into a smile.
They both laughed, neither of them not quite sure what about. There was an absurdity to their situation.
“Well you’ve definitely distracted me,” said Clodagh.
“Excellent,” said Rae. “And may I say that you look really very cute in your uniform?”
“You may, although it is unattractively sweaty in this ridiculous weather,” said Clodagh. “And I love your shirt. And don’t get me started on your jeans.”
“I see,” said Rae, smiling. They searched Clodagh’s eyes. “And if I were to ask you to kiss me, what might you say to that?”
Clodagh turned her head towards Rae’s, put her hand on their cheek and slowly drew her lips to theirs. Rae placed a hand on Clodagh’s thigh, kissing her back. Hesitant and gentle to start, then firmer.
Clodagh sighed. It had been a while since she’d been properly kissed. And Rae really was properly kissing her. They had a confidence to them that she didn’t remember from the hazy days of university hockey.
She adjusted herself and put her hand to the back of Rae’s neck, feeling the curls of hair that came over their collar.
“I always wanted to know what kissing you felt like,” said Rae, quietly as they parted.
“And?” said Clodagh.
“You lived up to my every expectation,” said Rae. “I’m a bit dazed, if I’m honest.”
“Too dazed to do it again?” Clodagh arched a brow.
“Oh no, definitely not.” They leaned in and kissed Clodagh again.
“Are you two ok in there?” came the male voice. The pair burst apart. They mumbled that they were fine. “Ok, so we should have you out in about forty-five minutes. Sit tight.”
“Forty-five minutes?” said Clodagh, an idea forming. “There’s a lot you can do in forty-five minutes.”
“What are we talking here,” asked Rae, easing their hands up Clodagh’s thighs. “Backgammon? Chess?”
“Darn it,” said Clodagh, with a click of her fingers, “I forgot my board game compendium.” She leaned forward slowly and kissed Rae’s neck. They groaned.
“Ok,” they said slowly, “so we need to make our own entertainment then?”
Clodagh brought her hands down to Rae’s chest. “Yes, I think it’s only right. All in the name of distraction.”
“Count me in,” whispered Rae. “And stand up.”
“Oh, bossy,” said Clodagh. “I like it.” She obeyed, taking Rae’s hands and pulling them up with her.
Rae grinned, placing their hands on Clodagh’s shoulders. They backed her up so she was against the lift wall, kissing Clodagh more passionately this time. She could feel the pressure of them against her and knew she needed more.
Clodagh put her arms around Rae’s waist and placed her palms on their warm back. She couldn’t resist moving her hands lower, cupping Rae’s bum. Rae sighed appreciatively. They ran a hand down Clodagh’s front, lingering over her breast, causing Clodagh to gasp. “It’s so hot in here,” she said, “it might be cooler if I took this top off.” She gestured to her tunic.
“It’s the only practical solution,” said Rae with a wink. They gathered the bottom of Clodagh’s top and pulled it over her head. Their eyes darkened at the view of Clodagh’s curvy shape.
Clodagh reached forward and began to unbutton Rae’s shirt. “This seems only fair,” she said, kissing Rae’s perfect neck. She ran her hands over Rae’s vest top and down their chest before kissing them hard.
Rae pushed in tighter. They could hear banging from the lift engineers but chose to ignore it this time. “God, you have a perfect arse,” said Clodagh, reaching down to undo Rae’s chunky leather belt and unzip their fly so she could reach under their shorts and feel their skin.
“And you,” said Rae, “are the perfect example of chaos. Your skin is so smooth, and your breath is so fast.” They gently sank their teeth into Clodagh’s shoulder before kissing it.
“Is it chaotic to make out in a lift?” asked Clodagh, smiling as Rae pulled down her bra cup for better access and then grimacing with pleasure while kissing every inch of skin they could find.
“So chaotic,” said Rae. “And I love it.”
Clodagh brought a hand round to the front of Rae’s jeans and began to stroke Rae through their shorts. “So chaotic,” whispered Rae again, this time with a gasp.
They reached for Clodagh’s crease-proof trouser zip and quickly pulled it down. Clodagh grasped for her own button to release the unwanted clothing and it dropped to the floor. She wanted to feel Rae against her bare skin, chaotic or not. “Please,” she breathed.
Rae looked at her. “Here?”
“Here,” confirmed Clodagh.
Rae leaned forward to kiss Clodagh and then placed their hand between her legs. Clodagh quietly moaned. Rae didn’t need more encouragement. They slide her knickers to the side and touched Clodagh where she needed it the most.
“Yes,” hissed Clodagh, her hands returning to squeeze Rae’s bum. Rae moved her fingers, swirling, rocking. Clodagh could feel herself unravelling.
“You are so beautiful,” whispered Rae between fevered kisses. “You feel like silk.”
Clodagh tried and failed to reply because the pressure of Rae’s body against hers, the feel of her skin, the rhythm they had built up and the feel of how turned on they were, was overwhelming.
Clodagh threw back her head as Rae kissed her neck and carried on the delicious movement. In seconds, her whole body began to let go and she experienced one of the best orgasms she’d had in a very long time.
Rae held her up, their breathing was laboured. They wrapped their arms around each other for a moment before silently and simultaneously sitting back down on the floor of the lift, side by side.
As their breathing returned to normal, Clodagh began to laugh. “That was one hell of a distraction.”
Rae laughed, too. “The best kind.”
“Hello?” came a voice from close to where they were sitting. “I’m just going to lever open these doors and you should be able to get out then. We managed to work out the problem quicker than expected. Bear with me.”
Rae and Clodagh continued to laugh as they swiftly grabbed their clothes and tried to get dressed. Rae was still doing up their fly as the doors opened with a grinding of metal, their face red, eyes wide.
Clodagh sniggered.
A face appeared at the door. “Are you two ok? Sorry this has taken so long,” said the man. “I’m Abdul from the fire service. I can see you’ve gotten quite hot in here what with the heatwave and being stuck.”
Clodagh tried not to get any redder and avoided looking at Rae, knowing they would make her laugh.
“We’ve got some water for you outside,” said Abdul, who prized the doors fully open. They were between floors, so needed help climbing out.
“Thanks,” said Clodagh.
“Well done,” said Abdul with a smile. “It looks like you both stayed pretty cool, calm and collected. Not everyone does.”
“Oh that’s Clodagh,” said Rae, “cool, calm, collected, for sure.” They kept their face perfectly straight, making Clodagh want to laugh even more.
They grabbed their water bottles and sauntered outside into the blazing sun. “Can we do this again?” asked Rae. “I mean, with dinner first and without the emergency services getting involved?”
Clodagh reached out and squeezed Rae’s hand. “I’d love that,” she said, her whole body smiling.
