Chapter Twenty-Three
T he scent of Lee’s desire would be imprinted on Mav’s brain until the end of time. Musky and sweet. He wanted to lose himself in her. Taste her until she came apart in his arms over and over.
His dick, however, had other plans. Pressure mounted.
He sat up, loving how her splayed legs exposed her glistening folds. He loved her eyes, half-lidded from pleasure. Her pebbled nipples tempted him to lick and nip. A flush tinted her upper chest and neck. This was all his doing, and he felt darn proud for it.
“Maverick,” she murmured.
“Yeah, Lee?”
“I want you inside of me.”
He could sightsee later. “Don’t need to ask me twice.”
Quickly, he rolled the condom over his pulsing erection and nudged at her entrance, teasing both of them. They groaned in unison, anticipation ratcheting up the tension.
Sliding an arm under her knee, he knelt and thrust into her sweet, slick heat. He let go of her leg, leaned over, and kissed her.
Lee locked her ankles behind him, wool-sock-covered heels digging into his butt, and he plunged into her harder and faster, their gasps and cries blending together.
Mav lifted her hips, giving him a better angle, and rocked into her with deep looping strokes. He leaned over again and pressed his forehead to hers as the tension rose to a breaking point. Driving in faster, he sensed her inner muscles flutter around him, then clench in a perfect rhythm, and he shouted her name as he came apart inside of her.

When Mav landed back down on Earth, he couldn’t move. Every bone in his body had turned to rubber. Was he crushing Lee?
She rubbed her palms along his back with a satisfied hum and wiggled her hips, sending ricochets of aftershocks through him.
“Mmm,” she said, meeting his lips in a deep kiss. “That was wonderful.”
“You’re wonderful.” He brushed his lips over her forehead. “Hold that thought.”
With reluctance, he eased out of her and hurried to the bathroom to clean up. He returned to the bed where she had already burrowed under the blankets, and he slid in behind her, snugging her body up against him.
“Lee.” His heart pounded and his mouth went dry.
“Yes.”
He nuzzled the skin under her ear until she shivered against him. “I might be falling in love with you.”
Lee rolled toward him, staying within the circle of his arms. “I was thinking the same thing.”
He blinked and swallowed hard. “I know you’re here on a temporary basis. I get it, but I want to try and see if something could work out.” Confident that his business would survive, he could now envision a future together.
For a few seconds, she stiffened in his arms. “Seems like this is working out fine.” She didn’t meet his eyes but gave a catlike smile and stretched against him, making them both groan.
Mav noted her tense expression. “You like it enough here?”
“It’s different from what I’m used to, but it’s a beautiful place. I like what I do. I like the people. And I like you.”
He drew his hand down her flushed cheek. “But?”
“There are a lot of things going on personally right now.”
“That sounded like a hedge if I’ve ever heard one.” He studied her warm eyes and her kiss-swollen lips. “No pressure for any future.”
“No pressure.” She repeated his words, but there was a bitter edge to them.
A warmth grew in his chest. “I want to do right by you, Lee.”
“That’s not an issue.” She kissed him, tucked her head into his chest, and snuggled deeper into his arms.
Within a few minutes, she had drifted off to sleep. She might not be at a place where they could discuss long-term plans. He understood. But she hadn’t said never .
Lee had given him her body and her trust.
Mav would protect that gift with everything he had in the hopes that she might one day give him her heart.
