Chapter Thirty-Eight
Spencer
“ S pencer, don’t you need to leave soon to get Grace?” Mrs. K knocked on my open door. “You’re not even dressed.”
“My tux is hanging up in my closet,” I told her. “I’ll only need a moment.” Though I did need to get going soon. “The dress was delivered, correct?”
“Yes, the dress, shoes, and jewelry were delivered to the spa where she’s getting ready.” She smirked. “Is this a date? ”
I blinked. “I don’t know. I haven’t been on a date in a very long time.”
Mrs. K chuckled and left.
I finished my email and closed my door. Getting changed in my office, I looked at myself in the mirror on my closet door. This wasn’t the first time I’d gotten ready for something here.
Oh, I almost forgot. My friend who owned an upscale formalwear shop, had picked out a tie and a pocket square for me that matched her dress. I’d also chosen her dress at lunch. I changed my tie and added the pocket square. Yes, that was it.
I checked myself again, smoothing my hair. She’d like the dress, right? He didn’t have much for her height that wouldn’t need hemming. Hopefully she could walk in tall heels.
Nerves coursed through me. Why was I nervous? I’d been to many of these dinners.
No. It wasn’t the dinner. It was Grace.
I was anxious about spending time alone with her. I was afraid she wouldn’t have fun. My good doctor was this little treasure and I wanted to show her the best of times.
It will be fine. I took a deep breath. Gathering my things, I left.
“Mrs. K, you’re still here.” I paused at her desk.
“Look at you.” She stood. “You match her. It’s a date.”
“Would it be bad if it was? I don’t know how she perceives this?” I frowned.
Mrs. K shook her head, smiling. “It really doesn’t matter what you call it as long as you have fun. I’m just teasing.”
“Good night, and thank you for all your help on this,” I told her. Going down to my car, I texted Grace that I was on my way.
My hands kept shaking as I drove to the spa. I wanted to impress her. I wanted her to be so pleased with the scientific community that she would want to stay here with us.
It wasn’t just worry about what could happen to her if she tried to leave, genuinely I wanted her to stay for more reasons than her departure would upset Evan.
You know what, everything would be fine. My good doctor was made for this. She would have an incredible time and meet wonderful people.
I parked at the spa next to Wes’ truck. He’d come to get Evan. They were angry at Brennan and not going to the dinner. I understood their anger. The state of her room unnerved me.
Being mad at Brennan wasn’t going to fix things. Making sure Grace felt comfortable here, would.
Half the problem was that Jett and Brennan didn’t know her origins. But it wasn’t my secret to tell and I understood why she was hesitating.
The three of them were in the sumptuous waiting room of the exclusive omega-only spa. This area was the only place alphas were allowed, and several worked on laptops, scrolled on their phones, or talked softly as they waited for their omegas to finish.
“Have fun and don’t fall asleep in your soup,” Wes said, laughing.
Grace giggled. “It will be fascinating.”
It would be.
“Grace.” I sucked in a breath at how enchanting she looked in the red dress, her wrap already on. Oh, the jewelry I’d chosen for her looked perfect.
She looked perfect.
She was perfect.
Yes, my good doctor had ensnared my heart and I was happy for it.
“Spencer.” She rushed over and gave me a big hug, her peachy scent enveloping me. “We had so much fun today. Thank you.”
I looked over at Evan. “You did? I’m so happy.”
“This was great, Spence.” Evan came over and kissed Grace. “We’re going to go. Have fun.”
“I will.” Grace grinned. Someone had curled and fluffed her hair so it was like a halo; her nails and lipstick matched the dress.
Wes tugged her away. “One last kiss.”
“See you later.” She waved.
I offered her my arm and she took it.
“I’m so excited. I looked online to see who they were honoring. Oh, I really want to meet Dr. Harlowe and talk to her about her particle cutter,” she told me as I helped her into my car.
“That can be arranged,” I told her as I got into the driver’s seat. Her being excited made me happy.
Is this a date?
I wasn’t sure, but I had a feeling that it would be an amazing night.
