Chapter 10

On the ride back to the city, Flynn was silent because she had no idea what to say. Her life had changed completely in less than twenty-four hours.

After Marcus Quinterro had kissed her, she’d helped clear the table and dried dishes.

Pop had said, “Come back next week. We’ll make enchiladas and Joanie’s famous seven-layer dip.”

She’d gotten hugs from everyone, including the kids.

Melanie had whispered, “You’re just as cool as Scarlett.”

It had been like nothing Flynn had ever experienced before. Including the kiss in the powder room.

“You all right over there? You’re pretty quiet.”

“Just … thinking.”

“About what?”

“Your family.”

Marcus glanced over at her. “They liked you. And you seemed to like them.”

“I loved them. Even though your mom and Zoe aren’t totally sold on me for you.”

Marcus smiled. “One day isn’t enough for Ma to give her blessing. Not unless I’d brought you home pregnant.”

Flynn sucked in a breath. “Seriously?”

“Fuck yeah. Then she’d be over the moon. You’d never get away from her. She loves being Nana.”

“Well, dang. I never really thought about how that would go. Sounds pretty good to me.”

Marcus’s gaze cut from the road to her face. “Seriously?”

“I didn’t mean—” Flynn started.

“Didn’t you?”

She took a deep breath and let it out. “Okay, full honesty. That’s the way you want to play it, right?”

“Yeah, the truth always works for me. Anything else, not so much.”

“Okay …” She took a deep breath and just went for it. “Nothing has ever sounded quite so good in my life as you bringing me home to your parents pregnant.” It came out on a rush of breath.

He stopped at the next light and turned toward her. His intense dark brown gaze pinned her to her seat. “You’re serious.”

She nodded.

“Didn’t expect that.”

“Then why’d you take me to meet your family?”

“I figured I’d know one way or the other, real quick, what to do with you.”

“And now?”

“I know exactly what I want to do with you.”

“And that is?”

His gaze intensified, and Flynn felt the answering heat between her legs. “Not something I’m doing on the first date with the woman who could end up being the mother of my children.”

Flynn’s legs squeezed together.

“Don’t do that,” he said.

“Do what?”

“Fuck,” he whispered. “I gotta get you home. You change. Wear a dress. We’re going out. And there is no way I’m coming up to your place yet.”

She swallowed. “Okay.”

His bossiness was a definite turn-on.

The light changed, and Marcus punched it. Flynn giggled as the Porsche roared to the next light.

“You’re serious. You won’t … on the first date?”

“Fuck no. I respect you. That’s not for today.”

“Okay,” she said as she pressed her lips together and smiled.

He looked over at her. “Okay?”

“Whatever you say, Marcus.”
