Prologue

Digital Deception

DAISY

I glanced through my front door peephole for the hundredth time.

There was none, his last message read.

“Can’t wait for our date tonight, beautiful.”

But that was in the morning, before he made a quick flight over the Atlantic. Did he change his mind? Was I being ghosted? What if his plane crashed?

A chiming bell rang through the apartment, making me gasp and straighten my hair. I was fucking insane and had never acted this way towards a man.

I wasn’t one for commitment, happy to cruise through life and men wherever my feelings—or libido—allowed. Yet, Lucus Miller was different.

As soon as we connected online, we hit it off. He was funny, easy to talk to and mature. Which was not surprising since he was twelve years my senior at forty-two.

We had been messaging and calling for the past month and now our schedules had finally aligned for our first date.

Smoothing down my dress with sweaty palms, I took a deep breath and opened my door.

He exuded pure sophistication and confidence. His light brown hair was swished back all natural-sexy and when he caught me staring, his mouth lifted into a cheeky smirk.

“Hey there, beautiful. Ready?”

I nodded and unintentionally licked my lips at his deep voice. Relief washed through me as all my previous concerns were proven unfounded. I didn’t get catfished by some random weirdo on the internet. The real deal stood in front of me.

“These are for you,” he said, lifting a bouquet of sunflowers between us.

“Thank you,” I said, before I took them and ushered him inside, searching for a vase. As I arranged the flowers on the kitchen bench, a gave him a beaming smile. “They’re gorgeous.”

“I couldn’t help but buy some daisies for my beautiful Daisy.”

“Daisies?”

“Mm, I saw them in the shop window on the way here and bought them immediately. It was a sign.”

I bit into my lower lip, trying and failing to hold in a giggle. “Umm. These aren’t daisies… they’re sunflowers.”

His eyes widened, before he pulled out his phone, no doubt googling to confirm. Then he blushed. This grown man—international pilot, sophisticated gentlemen with the finest manners, blushed.

That’s when I lost my restraint and gave a heartfelt chuckle. I'm sure he wasn't used to being wrong.

“Shit. Sorry, Daisy… And that’s my first impression?” he said, half talking to himself.

I shifted around the bench to crowd his front. He was fucking adorable. “Don’t be sorry. They’re both yellow, both have petals...”

Lucus flicked me the side eye which made me laugh harder. “I’m serious. People call me sunflower all the time. Common mistake.”

“Hah. Hah,” he said sarcastically. His lips morphing into a pout. Damn I wanted to kiss him. So, I did.

I wasn’t one to hold back, my nature overbearing to some. But I was always true to myself and pursued what I wanted in all aspects of life. And Lucus Miller, I wanted him.

He flinched at my sudden forwardness but immediately melted into my embrace. Stealing control, Lucus deepened our kiss as his hands gripped onto my hips to pull me in closer.

The chemistry was undeniable, a living breathing spark that roared higher with every second I remained held in his arms.

Our connection was rare; one that could only be described in romance novels.

“What about our date?” I asked, nipping into his plump lips.

He groaned. “Fuck the date.”

I laughed which transitioned into a shriek when he lifted me off the ground, my legs automatically wrapping around his waist.

“What direction to your room, wench?”

I pointed down the short corridor as I half-heartedly chastised, “What if I want to go on a date?”

“Then we’ve got the rest of our lives, Sunflower. Now, let an old man taste that pollen.”

He dumped me in the middle of my bed and slowly stripped out of his smart business clothes. I lapped up every inch of skin he revealed, the smattering of hair over his chest making me whimper in need.

This is insane right? Completely insane. Yet, when he looked at me with those honey brown eyes, all-consuming and possessive—I didn’t care.

Fate had intervened and given this man to me. It didn’t matter if we had just met. He was born to be mine.

And as our bodies accepted the natural calling, I knew that my life was irrevocably changed forever.

After our first coupling we were inseparable. For our first date Lucus surprised me with a trip to the islands—I even got to accompany him in the cockpit where I happily attended his cock.

In six months, we were married and not long after Lucus received a vasectomy, both of us happy and agreeable to a childfree lifestyle.

Our romance was a whirlwind, our compatibility as easy as breathing, our marriage a dream… until reality smashed those ideals to pieces, one secret—one revelation at a time.

Which left me with one all important question. Who did I marry?
