Chapter 15 - Theo
Theo
Theo gazed down at the woman in his arms, his thoughts moving very much upon the same lines as Emily’s.
He was remembering his father trying to persuade him to marry and secure the succession, saying that he didn’t want the dukedom one day going to one of Richard’s mealy-mouthed sons.
He remembered Mama, when she was alive, saying the exact same things and insisting that the only place to find a suitably bred bride was on the London Marriage Mart, from amongst the bluest of blue-blooded young ladies.
And yet here she was, a young lady who’d been so close and yet so far for most of his life. And now she was his and there was no one left who could turn their nose up at his choice and suggest he’d chosen from the wrong family.
And besides which, he loved her, and that was all that mattered.
He loved her quiet sensible nature and the way, he had to acknowledge, she’d calmed his initial anger to the point where he’d found the situation in the inn funny.
She was what he needed, and she would fit into the gap he had in his life like the lost piece of a puzzle.
He chuckled.
“What is it?” Her dark eyes regarded him in enquiry.
“I’m just thinking what my sister and your brother are going to say in the morning when they discover we have made a match while they have not.”
She joined in his laughter. “They’re going to be most surprised.”
He bent his head again and covered her mouth with his, and pleasure blossomed as she responded beneath his kiss. This was a moment he never wanted to end. It should go on and on forever, even if it meant having to stay in this inn for the rest of their lives.
He didn’t care a jot.
