Chapter 12

CHAPTER TWELVE

Olivia rolled over in bed. Her arm wrapped around Kaias’s bare chest. In such a short amount of time, she found herself falling for him.

Their hearts beat as one, and their bodies fit together.

Even when they argued, there was a way to push past their differences.

He played with her language lessons, teased her body, and became her senses.

If love at first sight was real, she was beginning to see it.

Kaias inhaled deeply and yawned. He rubbed a hand down her arm as he sleepily looked down at her. Olivia smiled softly, feeling his strength shield her from her anxieties.

“What’s wrong?” He asked.

Olivia shook her head and chuckled. “It’s nothing.”

“Tell me.”

“I made you something from my home.” She answered, shrugging. “It’s silly, but I wanted to share something about me so that you’d maybe understand why being who I am and doing what I do was so important.”

“That isn’t silly,” Kaias shook his head, “you are showing that you can trust me. And I want that for us.”

Olivia smiled, glad he understood a little of where she was coming from.

“What did you make?” Kaias asked.

“They are called beignets.” She said.

Kaias frowned at the word. “Bay-nays?”

“Close,” Olivia smiled and shook her head, “we’ll work on that one later. It’s a pastry that came from another country. It’s a French pastry.”

“There is a lot about Earth I will need to know about,” Kaias said quietly.

Olivia nodded. “For a lot of reasons. But, would you like one?”

“I would love one.”

Olivia smiled and slid out of bed. She padded across the room to the basket. Thankful that no bugs had found their way into it, she carried the basket to the bed. Olivia reached inside and grabbed one.

“Here.”

Kaias smiled and took a bite. The dessert tasted interesting. It wasn’t his favorite, but he had a feeling that had they not argued earlier at the temple, he would have had a fresh one.

“Thank you,” he said. He opened his mouth and grabbed the rest of the beignet with his mouth. Before Olivia could move away, he grabbed her arm and pulled her to him. Kaias held her to his chest as he finished the pastry.

“Kaias,” Olivia giggled out his name.

Kaias slid his hand over her ass and squeezed it. “Olivia.”

There was a moment of silence as Olivia stared at him. “Is everything okay?”

He smiled and nodded. Kaias opened his mouth to say something when a chilling wind blew through the balcony. It sent shivers up Olivia’s spine, forcing her to bury herself closer into him. Kaias instinctively wrapped his arms around him, trying to shield her from the wind.

“What was that?” She asked in English. There was something ominous in that wind.

Kaias asked her to translate. Olivia shook her head and repeated the question in Vrex.

Kaias opened his mouth to reply, only to be silenced by another gust of wind. A soft song hummed from the temple. Olivia cocked her head, trying to discern the words, but the language wasn’t Vrex.

“Kaias?” Olivia asked again.

Kaias slowly shook his head.

“Don’t worry about that.” He said calmly. He squeezed her body close to him and kissed her. “I’m here. That’s all you need.”

Olivia nodded. As safe as she felt in his arms, she felt something might be brewing.
