Chapter Fifteen
Eden’s eyes slowly opened, and she looked around. She wasn’t in the hotel anymore, and she could vaguely remember Cain holding her, but she’d never seen the room.
It was large and had a masculine feel to it. The bed felt like she was lying on a cloud. The drapes had been closed, but she could see it was nighttime.
She pushed the covers aside and moved her legs to hang off the bed. Because of the dizziness, she stayed for a long time. When she felt strong enough, she stood.
“What the hell are you doing?” Cain barked from the doorway. He set the tray down he’d been carrying and grabbed onto her arm.
“I have to use the bathroom,” she murmured.
“Fuck, I’m gone ten minutes, and you try to stroll across the room. Jesus, woman, are you trying to give me a heart attack?”
She could tell he was upset, so she kept her smile hidden. He led her into the bathroom and over to the toilet before stepping back.
She waited for him to leave, but he stood there in full Dom mode with his arms crossed over his chest. She opened her mouth to debate, but he shut her up.
“It’s not going to happen. You haven’t been on your feet for long, and for the last few days, you’ve been sick.”
She knew she was being ridiculous. The man had been inside of her many times, so she sat and started to urinate. Eden finished and wiped. Cain walked to her, flushed, and then moved her over to the sink.
“Do you want to wash your hands?” he asked.
She nodded. “And brush my teeth.”
Cain opened a cabinet that stood between both sinks and handed her toothbrush to her after putting paste on it. She wasn’t sure, but it looked like there were other things of hers in the cabinet. She wanted to ask questions but could feel her legs start to weaken.
“That’s it,” Cain said as he wrapped an arm around her waist, holding her steady while she rinsed. He didn’t give her a chance for anything else and took her back to bed.
“I’m glad you’re awake. Your fever went away about two this morning,” Cain said. He pushed pillows behind her to help her sit up and then pulled the blanket up to her waist. “Here is some soup and tea that Trisha recommends.”
“Who’s Trisha?” She really hoped she sounded curious instead of jealous.
“She is our housekeeper. She’s been with the family since I turned five, I think.”
Eden’s eyes widened. “How old is she?”
Cain sat the tray on her lap, sat next to her on the mattress, and lifted the spoon. “Take a bite.”
Eden opened her mouth and swallowed when Cain slipped some broth into her mouth. “That is very good.”
He fed her a few more bites before answering. “Hell, maybe late sixties or early seventies.”
“I hope you at least wished her happy birthday,” Eden said.
Cain rolled his eyes. “Yes. I give her a big bonus and two weeks off. That’s usually the time when she goes to see her sister. But never have I had the urge to know how old she was.”
“Men,” Eden said in disgust.
Cain smiled. “Come on. Open for me.”
She was able to eat half of the broth and most of the tea.
“I can see you starting to fall asleep. Let’s get you settled,” Cain said.
He lifted her until her head hit the pillow and then straightened the blanket. That’s when she noticed what she was wearing.
“Whose shirt is this?”
“Mine. Of course.”
“Wasn’t I in a t-shirt?” she asked. It was disconcerting that she couldn’t remember anything since the hotel.
Cain closed the door and stripped off his shirt, leaving him in his boxers before sliding into bed beside her. He rested his head on the palm of his hand and laid his other on her stomach.
“Yes. But it looked like you’d been in it for a few days. I could tell you sweated at some point.”
“So, you changed me into this?” she asked. He’d seen her naked many times, but she wasn’t used to someone taking care of her.
“I bathed you first.”
Her eyes widened. “How?”
“You and I took a shower together. You don’t remember that?”
Eden shook her head. “No. Not at all.”
“Yeah. I washed and conditioned your hair and bathed your body. When we were done, I dried you off, put this shirt on you, and then set you on the counter, where I brushed and dried your hair. I knew you’d rest better after a shower. You and I went to bed and slept for seven hours. I had to get up, go out, and check on things, but Randy has everything under control.”
In her wildest dreams, she would never have been in a situation like this.
“You slept with me?”
“Yes. Sweetheart, I was wiped out. I had been up every night trying to find you.” He cupped the side of her face. “I don’t think you realize how frightened I was, and I wasn’t going to rest until I had you home.”
“This is your bedroom?” She glanced around.
“Yes. This is the only bedroom you’ll ever see again unless we travel, but we’ll still be together. Go to sleep. The more you rest, the quicker you’ll be better.”
Eden had so many questions, but he was right. She couldn’t hold her eyes open another moment.
Cain pulled her tight against him. “Sleep, Little Sub.”
She nodded, tucked her head against his shoulder, and slept.
