Epilogue

Eight

Selkie and I are lying in bed, arms wrapped around each other, talking about nothin’. Oscar and Henri are back in school. Have been for two weeks and all seems well on that front. Their absence has given Selkie and me time to explore our relationship and fuck without having to keep it down.

“I want you to move in with me,” I say to her.

“I wanna move in with you,” she replies.

It’s the same thing we’ve said to each other every day for the past couple of weeks.

I’m teasing her nipple, getting ready to nibble it, when her phone rings. “Shit,” she says as she stands. “I left my phone in the kitchen.”

Her perfect ass sways as she walks out of the bedroom. I make plans about what I’m gonna do with it over the next half-hour.

My thoughts are interrupted by my phone.

“Yeah,” I say as I take the call.

“Mr. Brody, this Diana Chambers calling from Sagebrush Middle School. Our principal, Mrs. Summers, would like you to come to the school immediately. Oscar and Henri are fighting again.” She takes a dramatic pause. “Ms. Fleming has already been phoned.”

“Shit.” I end the call as I sit up and swing my feet to the floor.

Selkie comes flying into the room, phone clutched between her fingers. “You’re not going to believe this!”

“Yeah. I got the call too. Gotta get dressed. We’ve been summoned.”

“No, I mean this time it’s your thug of a kid. He dug a grave in the soccer field and tried to put Henri in it.”

I defend my son. “And what did little miss sunshine do to provoke him?”

We stare at each like adversaries, then start getting dressed. Yep. My life will never be simple again.
