“I have to go now,” I manage through a strained voice.
They must’ve turned the thermostat up in the lobby. I need fresh air NOW.
“Have fun on your date.”
He winks and I swivel on my feet to head outside. It isn’t until I hear the doors shut behind me that I exhale. I don’t bother turning around because I know he’ll watch me until I disappear from his view. He thinks I don’t know he does that, but I do. I smile to myself thinking about it. I check my phone to see the wait time on my Uber: two minutes.
